If Hitachi/HGST hard drives are so reliable, why does most of /g/ use other brands?
Price.
>2015
>not using SSDs
Hey, this isn't 2005 anymore.

If no one uses something, the failure rates will be low.
>>51494655
jesus just stop this.
If you have data to back up and you use a ssd, then you are totally retarded.
So just stop this childish shit

Except using ssds for large scale storage is too expensive to be worth it.
I'll use a ssd for my os, programs, ect. For primary storage hdd all the way. A 4 terabyte hdd is pretty affordable, getting that much storage using ssds would cost as much as most people's entire build.

>being poor
Hitachi/HGST is bleeding edge brand for WD disks.

I just replaced a 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar that was the loudest hard drive I've ever owned. It also vibrated so much that the dust filter on the bottom of my case would rattle and buzz. In fact, the vibration could be heard through the floor if you went and stood in the room directly below.
The 3TB WD Red that I replaced it with is absolutely silent when not seeking.

I don't
Hitachi drives all the way babyyy
WD are pretty much just as good though
>>51494663
I kek'd harder than I should have
>>51494617
HGST price per gigabite isn't good enough.
And then there's this.

Fucking brutal.
>>51494617
>tfw bought Hitachi
>tfw its loud as fuck
>>51494617
Costs more, and I use RAID and make regular backups so not worried about reliability.

Have they done anything on LTS with SSDs? I'm just legit curious how they hold up? *probably not as well as Spinning Rust and "Please Don't Corrupt" LTO-x Tapes
