I need a mid-end PC and I want to build one with some decent processor. AMD sucks because everything is always outdated and slow even to use with with modern OSes like Ubuntu, Win7 and 10.
So I thought that Intel would be good, but people here hate it. Why?
I don't know why /g/ hates them but I recently switched my FX-6300 to a i5-4690k and it was a huge difference in games & editing. I'd take Intel CPUs over AMD anyday.

Also uses substantially more power and generates enough heat to deter people from buying cheap boards. Where AMD excels at is the Athlon 760k/860k. Those are actually decent CPU's for the value.

Their CPUs are top tier and anyone who thinks otherwise is a retard.
Intel however has years of shady business practices, including spending millions of dollars to essentially make Dell, HP, and other manufacturers, ignore Athalon 64, despite it's performance at the time crushing intels P4.
Intel would later get sued for breaking anti-trust laws and such, but the damage was already done, AMD was on the downturn, and they never have recovered.
Intel has continued to push their technological advantage without really any competition from AMD, they are free to charge whatever they want for their CPUs, and they have very little motivation to innovate.
TLDR, AMD would be awesome if they made a better CPU, everyone here is hoping Zen becomes that CPU.
Intel makes great CPUs, but they are a shitty company who has done shady shit in the past to fuck over the competition.
