When normies post screenshots they're usually very low quality.
Images are sometimes not shown due to bandwidth/network limitations. Refreshing the page usually helps.

When normies post screenshots they're usually very low quality. Why?
>>
because they save them as jpegs
>>
Reposts of reposts of reposts through 3g/4g internet which compresses images server side.
>>
>>51485682
this

png doesnt have this problem
>>
>>51485682
>>51485683

It's both of these. JPEG artifacts + places like Facebook re-compressing to save server space.
>>
>>51485659
>hurrdurr I call others normies, I must be special
>>
>>51485659
- saving as jpeg with shitty programs like snipping tool/paint
- generational loss from services saving them again to jpeg
- even more generational loss from reposing the jpeg to other services which compress them again, to jpeg

.png through paint, and on Windows 10 your screenshots are saved to drive/custom folder.

>>
>>51486228
what should i use then ?
>>
>>51486254
Use JPG for photos, PNG for digital graphics.
PNG is not at all size-efficient for photos, just set the JPG quality higher.
>>
>>51485941
i'm using greenshot myself, but i've heard sharex is better, if only for webm recording. i'm just too lazy to switch.

It seems cancerous, but I guess it's similar to how some (i.e. old) people love crackling of the records.
Interestingly enough, there are not that many people preferring the sound of the cassettes to that of mp3s and records.

>>
>>51486522
I thought the whole point of vinyl records was to have higher quality because of the signal being a continuous analog signal compared to non-continuous digital signals.
>>
>>51486488
Vinyl has a hardware advantage (inexpensive method of sourcing sound) over a $200 CD player, so that's probably where vinyl fans started
>>
>>51486340
It does. Just encode a single-frame webm and upload.

This is how webp is going to effectively happen for the next 5 years or so.
>>
>>51486568
if you believe analog being continuous makes any difference whatsoever, then you don't understand how digital signals work

the tl;dr is that a digital signal can product a perfectly smooth output signal as well

I know how it all works, just wondering how vinylfags would actually relate to 128kfags because the former would argue about quality where the latter would not.

The reason vinyl sounds "better" to some people has little to do with the medium; the mastering process is different for vinyl; to accommodate the limitations imposed by smaller frequency range, etc.

Screenshots of their 720p iPhone, through JPG compression, then cropped, then uploaded to Instagram where they're compressed even further and get a shitty filter(s). After that they're reposted for months (look at the popularity of Instagram photo downloader apps if you don't believe me), each time being compressed again, possibly getting another filter or two.

wow /g/ is fucking dumb.

although jpeg compression is half the reason why this occurs, people do this so that they're able to repost unoriginal content on their social media without getting blacklisted as adding artifacts aka "pixeling" removes the worry of your account being flagged. that's why you see shitty fb pages with their stupid fucking logo that looks crisp as fuck compared to the image behind it. this goes for IG as well. However, in IG, adding a filter is all you need, but people tend to use the whitest one, then the person who jacks that pic uses the stupid purple orange one, and the cycle repeats.

surely facebook could employ some kind of hashing technology to save server space - even if it's over time/through maintenance tasks.

hash an image, then if a new image matches the hash, check the images and if they're the same, just serve the same file?
