Fallout 4 freezes about every 10 minutes while playing. It comes back about a minute or two later. I have an i5-2500k, GTX 560 Ti, and 4 GB of RAM. Could it only be the RAM? I know the minimum is 8GB, but I've seen videos of people with 4 gigs playing and running it fine.
>>
it's probably your gfx card too

I'm running a i7 3770k with a 6870 and 8GB of RAM. It runs ok on low settings for the most part except for some areas of the map where fps drops significantly. Make sure you have nothing else running when playing (Windows complains about low RAM if I have Firefox open at the same time). I would upgrade RAM first since that is cheaper before upgrading you gfx card.

Try lowering the shadow distance to medium. For me lowering God rays made zero difference in performance, but changing the shadow distance completely got rid of my frame dips.

Also get more ram. It's cheap, and 4 gigs isn't much anymore. I hit 7.7 gigs of ram use playing Fallout 4 the other day, and the only things running in the background were catalyst control center and MSI afterburner, so it seems very possibly 4 gigs of ram wouldn't cut it.

It might be your GPU, I tried running it medium settings on a 1gb 7850 and would constantly dip to 0fps from 40ish. Afterwards I just switched to a 760 and medium to high settings, got 60fps.
>>
>>51480950

>>
>>51480872
>I know the minimum is 8GB, but I've seen videos of people with 4 gigs playing and running it fine.
It depends on what kind of drive your page file is on.
If you hit full memory usage it will start aggressively swapping with pagefile, if you have an HDD then it will be really slow to do this, if you have an SSD it will be fast.

The difference between HDD and SSD in this situation would be huge. You never want a game to be waiting on your hard drive.

Your main issue is the graphics card. Upgrade that shit to the 900 series

Also, more ram would be nice

Look man, you can fucking find out if it's the RAM or not.
Just monitor the RAM usage and see if it gets filled up at any point in the game, because that's when page files are exchanged between disk and memory (or idk, it may happen if RAM is filled at a threshold. I suppose you're on Windows so I'm not sure how swapping occurs there).

Also the textures and shadow distance is set to high but since your ram is limited, reducing the texture size may increase the performance a lot.

You should still get ENB it really helps.

Is it weird that I am able to do this?
>>
>4GB of RAM
Found the problem. Ever checked to see how much ram fallout4 was using?

It's a ram issue. Just look at your HDD light when it's freezing, you'll see it blinking like mad because it's accessing the page file.

I am actually not very surprised that /g/ is so fucking incompetent they don't recognise caching issues when they see them.
>>

No because fallout 4 isn't actually a very demanding game. It just eats ram like a fucking whore though.

I don't think there is a big difference at all.
Hence the ram eating. And the shitty textures.

This. I remember Skyrim there wasn't that much of a difference between medium, high and ultra. Low was the only setting that was noticeable and even then it just looked like a circa 2006-2007 game. Kind of seems pointless.

With FO4 there's enough low res console textures anyway that I really don't notice much of a difference at all between low and ultra. I thought my eye sight was going so I'm glad someone else noticed this.

Not sure if it's related, but when I'm in or near the city, I get random drops where it goes from 50-60fps to 1fps for several seconds, then goes back up to 50-60.
In the city my cpu usage hovers around 90%, but it drops to ~20% when the framerates dip to 1fps.

Does it regardless of settings, and I tried adding every .ini tweak I could find to no avail.

This poster tells the truth, I work at nvidia , were going to gimp all but the 900 series , by the way HBM 2.0 is just a fancy name for HBM its the exact same shit AMD uses on their Fury series. (Im on the software team working on drivers and cuda performance gains) You should see the 700 series flop soon , and here is a side note the GTX 970 is a total pile of garbage , the hardware team fucked up big time and the software side has to emulate extra memory to compensate for it. We should be pushing out better drivers for the mobile line soon, oh and last note before I run off , we pay off tonnes of cash for devs to use gameworks, its absolutely bloated shit invented only to punch AMD in the balls. (I personally have two rigs at home but I love to game on my R9 390 , its just a better card , god bless 8GB of frame buffer , its a blessing when using openGL or emulation.
