What's the best input device? You have the following options:
>Mouse
>Trackpad
>Trackpoint
>Trackball

There can only be one.

Trackball but not a shitty trackball mouse you control with your thumb.

If using OSX, I feel the Apple trackpad trackpad needs to be present no matter what.

For Windows, give me a mouse unless you want to be strangled.
>>
Mouse is most useful for all applications.
>>
Mouse, no question.
I only use the trackpoint on my computer because it doesn't have a trackpad.

Mouse >>>>> trackpad >>>>>>> everything else
>>
Apple trackpad > any mouse

Touchscreen

keyboard
>>
it depends
>>
Trackball or digitizer. Mice and touchpads for special ed. Clitmouse for laptops.

Assuming pointing input devices, of course
>>
Trackball, trackpoint ... touchpad .....................mouse.

Mouse is just shit because you have to move your fucking arm while fingers are more precise and you need less space for anything that's not a mouse
>>

>digitizer
Do you mean drawing tablets? They are great for Osu! ... and, you know, drawing, but the requirement of a pen makes them pretty awful if you need to use the kb or anything.

>What's the best input device?
It depends. For desktops/laptops it's a keyboard. For tablets/smartphones its a touch screen.
>>
>>51478395
but their trackpad is literally the same as all the other trackpads now
>>
>>51478098

i vote for pen/digitizer
nothing else comes close
>>
>>51478944
tell us about this wonderful alternate reality you live in.

Even the few that track relatively well, aren't as good without OSX's gestures.
>>
>>51479046
when was the last time you used a touchpad?

pretty much all 2013+ ultrabooks have had the same precision and feel and even look of mac trackpads, and as of w10 release they have the same gestures too
>>
>>51479240
probably a few weeks ago bumming around at BestBuy. I'll try some out a bit more thoroughly next time i'm there i guess. i would be thrilled for the era of awful trackpads and trackpad software to be over.
>>
>>51478395
I love the trackpad but I feel like I need both. When I'm on the mouse I miss the gestures and when I'm on the trackpad I miss the speed and precision. Still the touch magic mouse is fucking great.

I've actually done this when my SP2's power cover dies on me.
>>
Depends on what you're doing. If you're gaming or doing graphics work (without a drawing tablet), a mouse is your best bet, other than that I'm a big trackpad fan, as long as it's not shit. Trackpoint is decent enough, but a trackpad with good gestures is way better.
>>
someone did a study on accuracy, precision, speed, etc... and found that apple trackpads performed about as well as a desktop mouse. trackpoints were more accurate but slower, and non-apple trackpads were pretty much the worst.

i don't know anything about trackball performance. i think they didn't get enough data.

For real though, it's useful mouse in general.

slow down dpi click, high speed dpi switch, 2 macros, 3 function scroll wheel, and decent ball.

You're actually incorrect

A good highly sensitive wireless laser mouse is a must. Apple's trackpad is in 2nd place for me, though it really sucks if your using it to control a 3d camera or play an fps.

Fuck man, I'm too poor for this shit. Mice are supposed to be cheap.
