I am completely new to headphones, I'm sick of shitty gaming headsets and plan on buying a decent pair of headphones on Black Friday / Christmas. I will be using these headphones for a combination of listening and
gaming
so I'm not entirely sure what is good for both at my price range. I've heard the AD900x are a good set with a great sound stage. Tried out the HD598 at a local store and liked that sounds however it seemed a bit dark. Any help/advice would be appreciated, thank you!

I have pic related, and can't use them because the USB DAC I had broke a while ago, obviously I can't plug these into my computers motherboard because there wouldn't be enough power to drive them.

I used to have a FiiO E9 DAC with a E7 plugged ontop of it, both of those products have been discontinued long ago, what would be the best way to make use of my headphones again? Money is not an object.

I've got some Phillips SHN9500's. One of my friends that used to work at Phillips gave them to me when she packed her shit up and left the country. They sound good enough playing music from my phone. I've been using Sennheiser MX170 for the past 2 years, I don't know if this shit is really good for 5€ or I'm just an ignorant

On an additional note I'm looking to buy Sennheiser HD 439 because they look good for an entry level, I can buy them on Amazon and they are perfect for my price range.

PS: I play a lot of Counter Strike so if anyone can suggest me a mic aswell I would appreciate it.

finally some people recommended me some in ears

- RHA T20 : 230€,
- Fischer Amps FA-3 XB: 270€

I have no idea if they are good and wich one I should buy, or are there other, better ones for this price? 270€ is already a lot, I don't want to spend more than 250€ desu

I live in europe, want some bassy in-ears and don't really care about isolation
I listen to hiphop and weeb stuff mostly and will use them with my lg g4

Your Magni is fine, no need to upgrade or downgrade rather if you are going to buy some tube shit. Anyway, HD 800 EQ for closer to diffuse field like response aka more neutral:

Looking at the measurements they have very emphasized -kinda boomy- bass, which should be good for hiphop and other nigger music, but the treble is very rolled off, and maybe it can be a problem with your weeb music.
From what I know those Shure are appreciated for being a decent musician's stage IEM (good isolation and comfort, okay build quality, ok sound) at a decent price, but overall they don't shine in anything and probably for a consumer there are better options.

There are others IEMs at that price range, like the Etymotic HF5 (in the last few threads they were highly debated, and honestly I can't tell you if they're considered good or bad), the RHA MA-750, the Yamaha EPH-100. Give those a look.

Well there you go. All depends on your setup right now. The HD 600 and upwards could need an amp in some cases. I haven't ran into problems myself but I wouldn't consider running HD 800s with Realtek codec even if I do get enough volume.
>>
>>51480455
>but I wouldn't consider running HD 800s with Realtek codec even if I do get enough volume.
why? because it's not 'adequate' enough for such an 'expensive' headphone

don't kid yourself, the only reason to buy an amp for the hd800 is because you're

- too lazy to buy a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter
- want to adjust volume with a physical pot instead of software volume
>>
>>51480478
>might be shitposting, might be stupid, probably both
>>
>>51480499
please do elaborate as to why you'd need a discrete amp for such a sensitive headphone
>>
>>51480439
Not really necessary, not for amps. O2 and Magni are the go to options for amps.

>>51480420
Good, good.

>>51480478
Nothing to do with price. I'm just sceptical how the codec will behave under load and want to be sure that there will be no issues driving the headphones with headroom to spare with volume even if I'm running negative preamp gain in software. High impedance and high sensitivity is an easy load but I'd rather just use onboard as a line out at most. I got the O2 and ODAC. This guy >>51480499 isn't me btw.
>>
>>51480555
O2/ODAC is good for peace of mind, you know exactly how it will perform, but it's not enough to justify a -need- for them, it's more of a desire.
>>
>>51480210
Reasons to get an amplifier:
-impedance buffer/high output impedance
-not loud enough
I guess if you like the look of an amplifier, that's something else too. But the core purpose of an amplifier is to make shit louder. You also have to define how loud is loud.

You don't need an expensive bit of electronics to make headphones work well, especially if you are only on desktop. Magni and Objective 2 variants are the go-to unnecessary amplifiers.
>>

Okay, so I just lost my in ear sennys and I am looking to pick up some new headphones.

In ear again, will be plugged into a phone, price is £20 or less (amazon.co.uk or argos will be preferably places to purchase from) I need pretty good isolation as I use them for my train journeys to and form university. Mic is not really necessary. I looked at the Universal earphone guide but I can't find any of them on Amazon or Argos
>>
>>51482870
meelectronics m6. you could get better sound for the price, but with poor isolation. or if you can find the hje-450k and some thick foam tips of the blucell (not comply) variety that sounds great and isolates very well, a bit harder to buy though.
>>
>>51482970
What would you recommend that has a better sound then?

I don't mind poor isolation as long as I can't hear people and people can't hear my music. Sometimes I wear my porta pros but the train attendants complain that it's too loud
>>
>>51482999
well as far as cheap IEMs go you can't beat the piston 3, amazing sound quality. but the isolation is very poor. I use the hje-120k as my daily driver, they're only $7 and sound great for the price, they're also super comfortable. isolation is average. the m6 and 450k with foam tips are the best-isolating IEMs I own, but the m6 isn't that comfortable to me. my favorites are the 450k and piston 3. piston 3 is a bit more balanced than the 450k, which has more bass (once you add the foam tips anyways). you could try adding foam tips to most IEMs, they will increase isolation but also bass. all of these will be more isolating than a portapro. I doubt any will leak as much as a fully open headphone like a portapro.
>>
>>51483103
Hmmm okay. Looks like theirs a lot more choices out there. I'm gonna try and look for some legit piston 3s on amazon and if I can't find any then I will get the. I could just get some foam tips for them to help with the isolation for the pistons I guess.

So annoyed that I lost my senhiessers. Got them for £15 reduced from £40.

They aight. Lots of clamp on small pads which spreads that clamping force over a small surface area making them painful to wear for prolonged periods of time.

Positioning them is also tricky as they can sound hollow if a seal isn't made between your ears and the pads. Overall it's probably one of Beyer's better headphones if you aren't looking for killer treble.
The bass extension is incredible, it reaches so deep it's almost unbelievable what these little things can do.

Im going to buy some Razer Kraken USB headphones for christmas, This is my first ever pair of headphones. A lot of people are saying they sound fantastic but if you arent careful or are a bit rough the band can snap. 60$ is all i got this christmas. And with the website having free shipping on orders over 50 this is looking good. What do you guys think?

Save up or wait for a sale on almost any other pair of headphones/earphones. Read the list in OP's post. You can attach some generic $3 mics that will generally sound better than gaming headsets.
If you are persistent on buying a gaming branded headset, try to get a HyperX Cloud II or Cloud I secondhand or on sale.

I cant save up. If i wait the money will be used for something else. I've got a recommendation from a damn good friend who is pretty knowledgeable about this stuff. He said he had his for 6 months or so, still feel brand new, are comfortable and sound pretty damn good. But thank you for the advice, Im just not really wanting to dig around for the rest of my days looking for more, I already tried that.

are the th-02's fully over-ear? I have huge ears and can't stand on-ear. Sound quality is irrelevant if I can't stand to wear them more than 5 minutes.

If you know a better sounding over-ear headphone at $20 I'm all ears
>>
>>51484365

from the OP:

On-ear is absolute garbage just pushed by companies looking to save 80 cents on plastic
>>
>>51484298
Razer is shit dude, it truly is.
You can get the hyperx cloud on eBay for around $40 which aren't just bad gaming headsets, they are proper headphones (takstar pro80) rebranded and with a mic attached. They have loads of positive reviews if you look for them, definitely better than razer
>>
>>51484542

This shit came in the mail about 4 hours ago and it has no sub-bass and it sounds boomy as fuck. I fucking got trolled by /r/headphones and /hpg/. My M50 sounds much better in the bass, and not only that, highs and mids too, with better clarity. I don't hear this so called wide soundstage you guys keep talking about, maybe I'm deaf.

as someone who has owned both the monoprice and the th-02 the tascam is far superior in sound, and while both have dodgy build quality the tascam can be made very comfortable with some new pads and headband padding. the monoprice cannot. also the th-02 is cheaper.
