Writing Utensils General

Post your favorite writing utensils.

I have a few sets of P200s, a set of Graphgear 100s and 500s, an Alvin DM03, a bunch of pilot g2s, and some space pens. I have 8B, 4B, HB, 4H, 7H, and 10H lead for my 2mm leadholder.

I EDC my Staedtler Mars Technico with 4H/7H lead, a Parker ballpoint (usa) with a space pen cartridge, and a Pentel PG5.

I got the metal rotary lead pointer used on ebay, and the sandpaper was all worn out, so I got some adhesive and emery cloth, cut it to shape, and glued it in, and now the sharpener works wonderfully.

I use the leadholder for notes during lectures because I can get very fine lines with hard lead, more than half as thin as my .3mm pencils.

Dude, you have autism.
I just use a graphgear 1000 that /g/ tricked me into buying.
It feels no different from a $2 pentel p207.

Also these.
because anime.
>>
>>51473706
Yeah, I don't like the Graphgear 1000 much compared to a lot of the other pencils. I thought that I would like the weight of it, but I ended up liking the much lighter PG5 much better. The retractable tip is neat though.

You should try a leadholder, it is much different compared to writing with a mechanical pencil.
>>
>>51473777
I don't really like writing with thick leads.
Personally I'd switch to 0.3mm if it wasn't so hard to find in stores around here.
I thought about getting one of those kuru togas but the barrel play would surely throw me off.
>>
>>51473954
Yeah, I tried a kuru toga, but I found that I could get a fine point by rotating the lead manually like I do subconsciously with other pencils. Also, the kt I got felt kind of cheap and plasticy.

And with lead holders, because you sharpen them, the experience is like writing with very fine lead, but with almost no lead breaking. With 7h lead I can make it through a full day of lectures without sharpening, and the point is still reasonably sharp.

I used .3mm for a while, but some pencils would make me break the lead. I broke lead the least with my .3mm Graphgear 1000.

Any of you gits have fountain pens?
I prefer them to normal ballpoint pens, way more fun to use.
>>
>>51474228
I have not tried a fountain pen, but I generally do not like ballpoints that have ink that flows more. I out space pen cartridges in all of my pens.

>>
>>51474051
Honestly if you're gonna be sharpening lead inserts, you might as well be using a wooden pencil.
I feel like this is the safety razor of pencils.
>>
>>51474051
>>51473954
I've got a .3 graph gear that I love, but I don't use it for daily use because it's so thin that it's hard to read. I was looking at getting another one in .7; I want to try a rotring 800 but I hear mixed reviews...
For pens, I use a metal space pen at work every day, but I just dropped it in the parking structure and it fuckin scratched the shit out of it so I'm all pissed off I have to find a new daily driver until I get a .7 pencil...
>>
>>51474748
I used to think that too, but they have really grown on me.

The advantages I have found:

-No wood shavings, just carbon, smaller sharpeners
-Pencil does not shrink as you use it
-It feels better in the hand
-It has a pocket clip
-You can adjust the point of the pencil more easily
-Lead breaks less because there is metal around the lead instead of wood

Also, I use a safety razor.
>>
>>51474228
>>51474294
Yea I go for the space pen too. I only recently tried a fountain pen which I loved- I want to get an italic nib and some good paper just for notes or whatever at home but for work I prefer a ballpoint even to a rollerball- although imo the writing looks the worst, it is the cleanest and I'm wearing expensive office clothes that I don't want to get ink on... Plus the space pen ballpoint never skips or anything like that so I don't have to stop everything because of a fucking pen...
>>
>>51474943
I am thinking about getting an AG7, right now I use a Parker pen with a fisher cartridge. I had a CH4B, but either I lost it or someone stole it.
>>
>>51474943
I understand why you wouldnt use a fountain pen for work, man youd come of as a pretentious dickwad in most work enviroments.

Yeah, I wouldn't really concern myself with the opinion of someone who might think like that since they'd be a cunt.

I fucking love drop clutches
when i used to be into art they were the best thing that had ever happened to me
very convenient and very efficient.
>>
>>51474872
I use a safety razor too, but I wouldn't want to sharpen a mechanical pencil for daily use.
This is really more like the straight razor of pencils.

I use hard lead, and if I want to I can sharpen the pencil only once per day and still have a sharp point after a day of notes.

I use 4H or 7H lead normally. I tried 10H, but that was so hard that it ripped paper.

It is less hassle compared to using a woodcase pencil, and it makes really fine lines.

Here is a comparison I just made:

bump

>>51475059
I'd be pretty impressed if I knew someone who could use a fountain pen. Most people's handwriting looks like they should be writing in crayon.

literally why? in the vap3 threads people hyped fasttech like nothing else, yet here I almost never see people talk about jetpens and it's almost the same thing.
>>
>>51478384
Those threads are literally shilling fasttech
This isn't like r/wicked_edge where a single merchant controls all the discussion and has his puppet accounts recommending that they buy "babby's first razor sampler set" from him directly.

Jetpens upsells everything.
And people here aren't stupid enough to think that it must be better just because it was imported from kawaii anime land.

Fasttech is great for vape gear, cause it sells knockoffs for around 1/10th of the price.
Jetpens seems like a cool site to browse, but the prices look to be more expensive than ebay or amazon.

I personally just love the Zebra F-301 ball point pens. They're very affordable, write nicely, look nice, and it's the kind of pen you don't want to just toss in the trash when it runs out.

My only other nice pen is a Zebra Fortia I bought at a Japanese bookstore in Los Angeles. I want to go in with like $100-200 one day and buy all nice imported pens there that i like.
>>
>>51478754
Is that a zebra pen that you can mod to accept a space pen cartridge?
>>
>>51478795
I believe so. I wouldn't mind trying to make one for work where I write on sometimes wet paper.
>>
>>51475889
I think the lamy safari is pretty good for the money. I've wanted the lamy 2000 for quite a while but don't think I would ever be able to justify spending over $100 on a fucking pen.
Modern style fountain pens also are less likely to make you look autistic in public.

>>
>>51481803
The .2mm is pink.

The .5mm seems to be the only one still in production, and it has a yellow lead hardness indicator.

It has finer rings on its grip, a lead hardness indicator, and a long lead clearer.

The other sizes are around $80 now, but the PG5 is $10.
>>
>>51478754
My nigga. I also carry a Zebra F301 and a Fortia. The F301 is only a buck fifty (even cheaper in bulk), can take various refills, and look great with any EDC. Fortia is basically the same, and I think it writes a bit better than the F301.

I love .38. I used to carry one at work along with my space pen. Sometimes I would hand it to customers to sign things at my work, and they would press so hard with it that they would rip the paper with the sharp point.

I like buying cheap fountain pens and fiddling with them. If you want something cheap and gimmicky this dollar 717i fountain pen is great. cost me about £2.50, accepts #5 nibs and is a piston filling pen. The only piston filling pen I know of even remotely in that price range.

0.7s write too thick and are prone to occasional smearing and flow problems

the pilot V5 line is even worse.
Wouldn't recommend them
>>

I use this, and I've recently been trying to find some .3mm pens to use that have waterproof ink. Going to try sharpie pens, currently have a sakura pigma 01.
>>
>>51482731
I usually use the .38 cartridges. The g2s are my favorite cheap pen.

I like space pens better.

I've tried fountains, tried the g2s, tried LOTS of pens. I just really really like these.

Hero's vintage parker ripoffs. The smaller one has a spring-loaded clip which is awesome for practical use but other than that generally lower quality in all other areas compared to the larger one. They write fine lines really well but all have a problem of blurping ink when shaken
>>

Why are there ripoffs of Parker pens? I got my vintage made in Janesville pen for ~$10.

The chinese market. Parker used to have a factory in china but the government seized it and gave it to Hero. They write in a way that's pretty suitable for everyday chinese writing.
