How well does Linux, say Lubuntu, emulate consoles compared to Windows?

I see most emulators have a Linux build.

the same as windows from my exp
>>
can't speak for all emulators but it seamed fine when I tried.

where you will struggle is gamepad drivers. depending what you have.

Dualshock 3 works better on Linux than it does on Windows.

Also, Dosbox works really well.
>>
With emulation, it's fine on that regard. About the same as Windows really.

Most of the time, just as well. Sometimes slightly better, especially if the emulator uses OpenGL, though other times the emulator won't be available at all, for weird closed-source Windows-only emulators like SSF. A lot of open source emudevs are Linux users.

Anything below PS2/GCN is fine, they can also work on Linux but it will probably require you downloading some ~proprietary~ drivers.
>>
>>51467303
Just use an xbox or PS3 controller.
It's almost braindead easy to setup with those.

Dolphin seems to get a better performance on Windows for me compared to when I ran it on Linux
>>
>>51467183
burh,, I have done it.. depending on the emulator and the amount of development, there can be huge performance loss because of bad optimization on Linux. Your best bet would be to use windows or a virtual windows.
>>
>>51467183
Probably not great if you're using an AMD GPU.
>>51467349
Vulkan's not even out yet, let alone widely adopted.
>>
>>51467585
Oh noes! Not proprietary drivers? On my GNU plus Linux machine? Say it ain't so. My freedom is being violated, and I'm triggered.

Can we just have a Stefanie thread on /g/ everyday already? I wish someone would post more of her so I can build my folder.

Linux is better than Windows for emulation, but there's some consoles with better emulation on Windows.

PS2 for example, because PCSX2 is a horribly programmed emulator, they basically focused on the ancient D3D/win32 crap and nothing else, their OpenGL support is horrible.
>>
>>51467606
If you did OpenGL with the propreitary nvidia drivers on both Windows and Linux, the Linux build will work better.

Dolphin developers do actually primarily focus on OpenGL and portability.
>>
>>51467585
GCN, Wii and PS2 games work without problems 1920x1080 with AA on mesa 11 and r7 260x
>>
>>51467765
there's a joosten board on double chan
>>
Pcsx2 runs like shit
Other emulators are just fine, and for some reason Linux recognises every gamepad in a second while windows need a fuckton of drivers and settings just to vibrate
>>
>>51467666
But it's more likely to be than OpenGL, yet let it be out first, indeed. May linux gaemers pray for it.

>>51468277
except Xinput based, as far as i can tell, i had a shitton of little problem. Top-down axis being inverted or two buttons. May be because it's microsoft crappy API.

Depends on whether your video card has decent drivers. Performance should be just as good as on Windows. Although I'm not sure why you would waste your time with emulation when you can use Steam.

DS4 as well. No third party programs to fuck with, just use its Bluetooth pairing and go.
