I have a HDD in the laptop too, the downloads go there.
The SSD was only an OS and work drive, like I installed a few VMs there, but nothing IO extensive.
Besides that, I only had one Windows reinstall since I bought it.

lt;dr: SSDs are expensive, and die fast.
Yes, they are fast, but only buy one if you can afford a new one every two-three years or so.

too bad people live longer than 2-3 years tho.

welp, HDD Guardian's help is retarded.

There's your problem OP. It's like buying an iPhone and expecting it to last 3 years.
>>
>>51466610
But iPhones do last more than three years. I still have an iPhone 4 as seconary device.
>>
i bet you didn't put your TEMP folder on the HDDlmao
>>
>>51465574
Should have bought Samsung or Intel.
>>
>>51466669
>TEMP folder on the HDDlmao
Then why would you buy a SSD?
>>
>>51466638
I was talking about normies, but I have my iPhone 3gs too. It works but it's unbearable to use now.
>>
>>51466702
not for constant writes and rewrites, that's for sure.
>>
>>51466767
Then you're better off with a HDD.
>>
>kingston
SSDs last decades. Kingston nonsense doesn't.

Their drives are the fucking worst.

no, you're not. boot times of programs and the os is still improved. that's all ssd's are there for.
they're not there for your temp files. learn how to take proper care of your hardware and it won't die in 2 years. pic related is my 2 year old ssd, TEMP folder obviously on the HDD
>>
>>51466610
Well you should have said Android phones, but sure.

(You can just flash back an older iOS that works just the same and it doesn't slow down the phone. But yeah, 256MB ram is just not enough.)

Now we are back top step 0.
Out fucking standing.

It's not an issue, I just wish the neckbeard basement dwellers would shut their fat mouth and stop talking bullshit.
SSDs die quick if you use them - and why the fuck you would not use them if you buy one?
Just so you can shave off a few seconds from boot? Wow, much fucking time saved.

>>51466835
It's Sandforce based.
Plenty of drives are SF based.
The only drives that don't suck are PCI-EX ones, and "Pro" Sammy / SLC ones.
>>
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820173012

will this last very long or should I get the 850 EVO meme drive that everyone recommends?
>>
>>51466850
>SSDs die quick if you use them
they die when you write a lot of files on them. reading files does not reduce the lifetime. that's why you use it for your applications and not for your download or temp folders. it's not that difficult.
>>
>>51466675
Well I fell for the deal they had, each one of them was like 70$.
And yeah that ain't much, but I am not from the US so it would have been cool if my SSD would have lasted longer.

Ps.: I use the 2xSSD in RAID0, so the writes are halved. Just copied 8gigs to the SSD array and the posted drive received 4gigs of data (obviously).
The RAID is Intel RST based, so TRIM _is_ issued.
>>
>>51466856
holy shit, fuck you.
this drive here is like 200-250$.

fuck europe.
>>
>>51465574
>people always said it's going to last 10-15 years and so
yeah, if you shell out for good stuff

buy cheap buy twice, nigga
>>
>>51466880
do you think it's worth that price though? Should I get it?
>>
>>51466845
I think it's more important to have faster writes for temp instead of having boot time split in half, which I'm going to notice once a day at best. Same for programs, I rarely clse the once I use. If you're going to babysit the SSD like that then you're just wasting time and again better off with a HDD.

>>
>>51466856
I've had the 240 size of that for a year or so, no problems so far.
>>
>>51466870
well the main thing I still cannot put together is the REAL data written.
As you can see it says ~10TB.
The documentation says ~120TB.

But the help text says "in increment of 64gb".
So what is the real data amount written?

>>51466856
seriously, 100$ for that much space, even if it lasts for 2 years, go for it.

>>51466888
YES. Of course.
Even if my SSDs (both) would die now, I would still buy one.
Work (virt, development), gaming (fallout4, bf4, codbo3), etc... all are blazing fast.
For example Fallout 4 took like 30 seconds to load a new area with the 7200RPM drive, it takes 2 seconds with the SSD.

>>51466887
The stackoverflow dev (always forget his name) had SSDs randomly dying on him, and not from writes.
>>
>>51466909
>The stackoverflow dev (always forget his name) had SSDs randomly dying on him, and not from writes.
so what?
>>
>>51466938
So I did not think it's worth investing in a premium SSD if it can just die randomly on me anyway in 3-5 years.

I mean the companies in my country (yeah fuck europe again) give only like 1-3 years of warranty at most.
Not exactly a good bet if you ask me.
>>
>>51466901
No, you'll be there looking at your SSD in 10 to 20 years, not using it. You'll still use your HDD in 99% of cases. That 1% that you're going to use your SSD is to post screenshots online on how much time it lasted.
>>
>>51466978
This pretty much.
Makes no sense to buy one TO NOT USE IT.

1) Europe is big, and the former Soviet Bloc still carries the burden of the past. Thanks to the russian scum (niggers with wrong skin color) - said part will always be more poor/lag behind.

2) It's not the money. People earn (on the western part) just the same, or even more. But the items, especially tech and such - they cost 2-3x more.
So yeah, it's the tax, not the price.

%TEMP% size after years of install:

yeah guis, look at all dem data, at this rate, this will kill the SSD in like ... a 1000 years.
but guys, 1000 years is nothing.
