I'd advise for a Subbox. It has a decent mod and a good tank that allows rebuilding if your mother ever goes down that route (I started thinking it was really complicated, and now I love doing coils and can't imagine ever buying a pre-made coil head).
I think there's a Kanger Subbox model, the nano or whatever, that uses temperature control, check it out.
