I listen to this sometimes for the nostalgia.
I still remember having to hide my powerlevel when I played Quake online, used IRC, learned how to use Windows and DOS, and typed relatively fast. Today everyone spends all their time online and people actually don't shun tech-literate people. It's like I was a nigger during the times of slavery and immediately after it being outlawed everyone started wearing blackfaces.
Though what bothers me the most is that people have no idea how to actually use computers besides surfing the web, and all the content is made to suit these people. Far less commercialization of the internet. Before you had to worry about ads all over the place. Now you have to worry about "native advertising", shilling, and viral marketing EVERYWHERE.
Speaking of infiltration: most of the internet surveillance programs we're fighting against weren't around then, and the ones that were, were not nearly as powerful as they are now. This also includes NSA infiltration of online communities.
