-27 diopters, right eye.
-5 diopers, left eye. It has a cataract lens implant with a 20 diopter power.
>>
>>51440679
If you have simple vision needs you can save a lot of money ordering online. If you have a high correction prescription that has to be cut at a lab with a good base shape. Progressive lenses also require specific measurements beyond pupilary distance, and need to be fit very precisely. Ordering a high correction progressive lens prescription online is therefore pants on head retarded.

Remember, your eyes need as much moisture as you can give them, especially after drying them out staring at a screen!
>>
>>51440736
There's been a study comparing kids and teenagers which spent most of their day outside in bright sunlight vs ones who spent most of their free time indoors. Indoor kids had significantly higher rates of myopia, and earlier onset.

It's not the habit of watching tv or sitting in front of a computer per se, it's the habit of not exposing your eyes to constantly changing depth scenarios (my guess to explain this).

This has a lot to do with genetics. A friend of mine spent basically all his childhood and teen years in front of a computer/TV screen and he still has perfect sight, while I have 4.5-5 diopters in each eye. My mom has something like 7 and I have an aunt who has 14 in each eye

Also I remember reading that it also has a lot to do with your eyes degrading if they don't get enough natural light. So if you stay inside all day your eyes fuck up.

Compared to others in this thread I know it's not that bad, but I can't see anything past like 30 cms whenever my glasses are off

The worst part is, every couple of years it gets just a little worse, and I'm scared it won't ever stop. I started from -0.25 and in 10 years it went up to 2.25

>>51441616

I've been staring at books and monitors in dank basements, etc. for like 20 years.

I think I might be slightly nearsighted as very close things look just a bit sharper than the distance alone can explain, but I've never bothered getting this tested as I can still read signs and stuff at long distances if I try a bit.

Maybe aging will make it progress in the other direction.
>>
>>51441562
Depends, at -.75 its not so bad that my peripheral is wrecked anyways.
>>
>>51441562
Contact lenses are better because you have a higher chance for an infection which can cause the loss of your eyesight also your eyes will feel constantly dry when sitting before the monitor.

I couldn't wear the contacts at night when sitting before the monitor. My vision blurred every 30 sec because my eyes got dry...

Also -3,75 on both eyes. 22 years old. When will my eyesight stop dropping?
>>
>>51442759
>you have a higher chance for an infection
Well sure, but that only matters if you leave your lenses lying around in gross places.

>your eyes will feel constantly dry when sitting before the monitor
Not really, just drink a lot of water.
>>
>>51441028

the trick is to do it in front of the mirror, pull your lower eyelid down and put the drop in at close range, you don't feel a thing
>>
Like -8.75 in the left and -9.50 in the right. I also get really bad glare, ghosting, and halos/rays of light. Eyes are too dry for contacts, and apparently lasik will make the ghosting and glare a lot worse.

I really shouldn't be driving at night, because I'm basically blind from the extreme amount of glare/rays/halos around lights.
>>
>>51444450
I don't think carlights are bright enough to cause permanent damage to sight unless you stare at them from really close range.

I work at an optical store and there's a good flier they have that explains the negatives of websites for glasses. Most of it is based on people inputting bad measurements or not getting the actual materials / coatings they are paying for. Your mileage may vary, and I'm with the anon in this thread that said don't get progressives online, that shit is inconsistent even if you get it done in store. Online is drastically worse. Same with high myopia or hyperopia.

Tldr; you get what you pay for.

Perfect vision
Better than 20/20, according to the optometrist.

Does staring at screens actually fuck your eyes up? Why haven't mine been fucked up then? I've been staring at screens for 20 years
>>
>>51444658
>I work at an optical store
I figured as much, since what you wrote sounds exactly like what every optician says about online glasses buying.

>Most of it is based on people inputting bad measurements
That can happen anywhere, and from my experience and others I know (who get glasses from optometrists or ophthalmologists) there are no special measurements taken that don't go on the prescription, apart from the occasional omission of the PD. Since everything is on the prescription, there is no difference between ordering online and brick and mortar, assuming the order is correct. There is no "special fitting" in these cases.

>not getting the actual materials / coatings they are paying for
Again, that isn't something that can only happen online. I at least have more options in regards to coatings and materials when I order online.
>>
21 here.
It was just recently I started getting eye strains from squinting at the backboard. I spent probably 80% of my childhood inside on a computer. I just realized my last eye exam was for my physical for trying out for middle school cross country, which was about 10-11 years.

I think I might have myopia, but I'm unsure. Seeing an eyr specialist on Monday.

-2.75 / -2.25, contact lenses

Might try putting the 2.75 in my right eye, since my left eye seems to have better distance viewing.

I'm hoping my vision will stabilise for some time so I can consider stuff like LASIK.
>>
I don't know the actual numbers, but my eyes are moderately shit in terms of long distance. I've actually discovered recently that migraine headaches with visual aura distortions are hereditary to my family, and turns out that for me I get them when I spend hours in low light looking at a monitor or handheld or something.

Funny because I've been staring at monitors all my life and it only manifests now. I don't think the degradation has anything to do with the monitors themselves, just my heredity. I should really get all this examined by a doctor.

Actually you're almost right. The study you are talking about proved that intense warm LIGHT is the factor.

Indoors, computer screens and TV's produce blue light and very low intensities of light in general compared to the sand/grass/sky reflecting the sun into your eyes outside.

Basically, you could get away with having a really really well lit room.

20/10 is "better" than 20/20

It means you can see what normal people see at 10 feet, at 20 feet.

Imagine reading an eye chart at 10 feet.
Double the distance.
Can you still read it?

I also have pretty good low light vision, which I first realised when I was about 6. I walked into our darkened aitting room to get a drink, and could still see the glow given off by our old TV screen after it was turned off. (Strangely this works better for me if I look at things off center)

If you're pricing progressive lenses on line bear in mind
1) Zenni et al use very cheap progressive lenses that have a large area of no sight. The area represented in gray/blue/orange is the area of a progressive lens that is blurry. Varilux commands a price premium by virtue of it being objectively better.

2) Progressive lenses require measurement of the segment height, which is height (in millimeters) from the lowest point of the lens to the center of your pupil. Zenni and most online shops do not ask for this. They essentially make an average "guess" of what the average person would have and if you fit that, good, if not, too bad, you get fucked up glasses.

3) Zenni's quality control is piss poor. Even with my local optician, he sometimes fails the lenses the lab sends to him (when your prescription strength exceeds -6 diopters, opticians will not cut the lens locally; instead, your prescription is sent to the lab, the lab cuts them and sends them to him, and he verifies the order was properly done).

4) If you have progressive lenses and the temples or nosepieces move at all, then things get blurry if you have a high correction prescription. If you have an optician, he can adjust the temple/nosepices based off the appropriate SH measurement. If you order online, you have to try to correct this yourself when it can and does happen.

In short: If you have a single vision lens and you are +2/-2 or less, then you can get a bunch of frames from zenni and save loads. However, if you have a high degree of correction with progressive lenses, it doesn't make sense to order online.

I've heard if your astigmatism is too high you're unlikely to be a candidate for LASIK. I just don't know what the threshold is.

At this point with -2.00 in one eye, my doctor says the main reason I shouldn't get LASIK is not because I can't, but merely because my prescription is still changing on a yearly basis and if I got it now I'd just be wearing glasses in a year.

Wow it must be nice to be rich OP. I wasn't even aware you could get lenses to cost autistic amounts.
>>
spent 20+ years staring at TVs and monitors all day and some book reading. Perfect 20/20 vision. Humans are weird

Been using computers for years for long hours every single day and i never needed glasses just some drops to lubricate dont you faggots dare blaming computers for your shitty genes.

Not sure I think I have -1 and -0.75 on the other
my younger brother -0.5 -0.5

My parents say this is all because of tv and games
on the other hand my doctor says it is not and pisses my parents off heh

It's weird tho, no one in my family has problems with their eyesight, except most of my cousins, my brother and me
>>
>all these blind ass motherfuckers browsing /g/
Wow dunno how you all do it, I'd kill myself if I had to wear glasses/contacts. Been staring at screens for the past 18 years and have never needed to visit a doctor about my eyesight.
>>
2.2 on both eyes, my vision isn't great but not extremely terrible

sitting at the computer since age 5 (for 23 years), my vision is perfect, I can usually read signs from further than anybody I know.

However I have small testicles. Like, they're so small my oncologist said that they're unusual.
I'm pretty self conscious about it.
Also they're very sensitive, sometimes even to the touch.
I thought they're normal until a year ago, but since I'm pretty shy about it.

i was reading on PDAs since Palm M100, my eyesight is still okay. Is it really so bad to read small text near my face?
>>
>>51440399
Roughly -3.5 on both eyes. 'Poor' eyesight is genetic. Apart from physical or chemical trauma (or staring at the sun really long) there is no way for you to fuck up your eyes. Reading in the dark doesn't worsen your eyesight either, it's just tiring. Being nearsighted makes you slightly better at reading, which is why it was probably not selected against in urbanized societies, where there is hardly any reason to need to be able to see things more than a couple of meters away sharply anyway.
>>
Short sighted since 6 and adding 1 index per year? In my country, they use a different scale. So now i assume im - 8. Can someone explain?
>>
-5 in the left eye, -7 in the right eye. Always read a lot, even in the dark, always watched TV from really close up, always played a lot of computer games through the day, gone outside very rarely (the last one being the only one I didn't get chided for all the time).
My parents gripe at me constantly to do eye exercise too (looking near-looking far every half an hour after staring at the screen and holding palms near your eyes and stuff), but I don't because I really doubt it works, and also because it sounds like really way too often to work comfortably with. I assume it's all hogwash, or does it have some merit after all?
Also, what about this laser therapy, or whatever? Does it work? I was planning to do this when my eyes stop changing, but some people in this thread said it's not ideal?
>>
>>51455882
are you stupid? Dioptres are the same all around the world. If you have -8 in USA you will have -8 in Europe. The rest is Mordor so I don't know.
>>
>>51456373
In where i live. My number is 800 i have no idea how to translate that, so i assume it to be -8.
When i take off my glasses, everything out of the 10cm are blurred
>>
You guys are all retarded. Short/long sightedness is genetic. It's caused by your eye either growing too long, or too short, to put it simply, so that the lens focuses light either in front of or behnd where it's meant to focus. It's not caused by staring at a screen in the dark or any of that bullshit. The worst that can happen because of that is temporary strain on the eyes. Nothing more. This is high school level shit..
>>
>>51440399
I look better in glasses anyway

Might a well ask here, glasses new fag btw. Question, are glasses suppose to make you lose your vision in the corner of your eye(s) after taking them off from coming out doors to going inside? I've never worn or needed glasses until this year(I'm 26 btw).
>>
>>51456768
That sounds unusual and you should probably ask an optician/optometrist/ophthalmologist.
>>
>>51440399
20/20 vision. You guys have lost the gene lottery. Make sure you don't reproduce.
>>
>>51458242
vision deficiencies are correctable
unfortunately for you, autism isn't
>>
I been on the PC for many hours a day for the past decade or so.

Got something like -1 for both eyes, but it's possible it's from other factors, such as genetic (mother's side has most folks with glasses) or retarded hair in teenage years (shit was all over my eyes)

Damaged enough to make not wearing glasses annoying

Not damaged enough to warrant a surgery
>>

>been staring at a screen for an average 5 hours a day since 10 y/o
>eyes finally going to shit, cant read road signs while driving, rely on gps/memory to tell me what road is up ahead
>cant make out coworkers more than 20 ish feet away

Its only a matter of time now, id say early maybe mid 30's ill actually need a pair, possibly later than that if im lucky
>>
>-4.50 and -3.75
This was inherited from mom, started needing glasses from the same age and have about the same eyesight. Wear contacts to correct this since I've grown to hate eyeglasses. I do intend on getting Lasik.
>Diagnosed with glaucoma as a teenager
This was inherited from dad who also had it as a teenager. Eyedrops fix this.

There's no reason to believe that either problem came from staring at a monitor. I feel like one could just as easily bullshit that this would've been more of a problem with flickering CRTs than LCD panels.

>>51440399

Wait a minute

There are computer glasses?

How come no one told me? i'm 25 and my vision is fucked up
>>
>>51440399
I have those exact same glasses.
>>
>>51458117
>you should probably ask an optician/optometrist/ophthalmologist.
I don't know. Is it normal for optometrist durring a eye normal eye exam, to flash light in each eye 4+ times before making you read the chart. I'm no doctor but this never sat right with me. I know my vision isn't 20/20 but I've never had a problem seeing until these assholes proscribed me 400$ glasses. Taking those things off really messes with my vision.
>>
>>51440399
I feel ya anon
-12/-12.5 Here, astigmatism, bifocals

cant make out anything without glasses. crashed my car once when they fell off
>>
>>51458481
Yeah. It's a weaker nearsighted prescription (or if you have very minor nearsightedness, essentially a small step in the positive/farsightedness direction) that's optimized for viewing within 3-15 feet.

It's amazing to work on the PC with them.
>>
-1.25 / -1.5, contacts for work or going out, no correction otherwise. Got glasses for the "I'd like to see this perfectly but can't be bothered with contacts" moments. Takled with optometrist friend about maybe getting lasered, she called me dumb and told me not to risk fuckups with so small problems that are very likely to go away with age.

That "I NEED MUH GLASSES" anon with -0.25 made me chuckle.
