http://www.ghacks.net/2015/09/23/enable-vp9-in-microsoft-edge-for-better-html5-streaming-support/

As of right now, Edge does not inherently support VP9 or webm files. According to the link above, it is an experimental addition that used to be enable able, but doesn't currently appear.

Any advice? Also, general Edge thread.

Edge as it is, might be good enough for mom's Facebook browsing, but the lack of other features (e.g. extensions) means I have little use of it. These features might be announced and coming, but they aren't here yet.

VP9?

See >>51438375.

Microsoft explained why they didn't want to support WebM on IE back in 2011 but the new Edge team has already confirmed they're working on support for WebM (VP8+9).

Webm already works in edge. Just install the webm components for IE and it will work fine.

I'm using it right now.

does anyone else here have edge 13, basically the big update for edgeHTML? it still says I'm on edge 12 for me.

build version 1511
edge version 25

these are the most recent. but I can assure you, there is no update on Edge 25 so far to play webm files.
>>
>>51440113
it doesn't say build version on my about screen. I have windows 10 home edition if that makes a difference.
>>
>>51440176
That's because you still have the original Windows 10 release. Check Windows Update or update manually with the Media Creation Tool.
>>
>>51440315
no, this computer used to be windows 7 before the upgrade was applied.

They should start working on ad-blocking extensions instead of a webm support, which nobody really cares about outside 4chan and autistic sub-societies.
Edge is a simple, minimal and super efficient browser. As soon as it gets an ad block, there will virtually be no reason to use any other browser.

"i want support for this feature"
"you can very easily use this"
"yea but nobody cares about that"

retard.

install gentoo. install qutebrowser with the gstreamer use flag. install gst-plugins-meta ~amd64 with the ffmepg use flag as well as absolutely any codec you want support for.

that's why people like linux, you can do what the fuck you want. no more 'hurp derp microsoft doesn't want to support this so i'm fucked'

Does Edge support VP8 and H.264?
If so, I'll be moving to it as soon as it has extensions (read; Adblock).

I'm not going to dig through man pages to find out how to navigate to a webpage when it's CTRL+L in every other browser. Nor am I going to go looking for settings within config files when a GUI is 100x easier.

It's not my fault every other browser is shit, I'm just hoping Edge will be less shit.

vim key bindings... quite possibly even more universal than w, d, a, s for walking in video games.

hint: press 'o' to go the the address bar
press colon to view and change any settings you want
stop being a god damned microsoft shit-eating pussy

Or you could just Chromium, it just works.

IE and Edge support H.264.
