Recently got my A+. Currently working at Staples as an Easy Tech. Have an interview tomorrow with a military contractor.
>>
JNCIA vs CCENT?
>>
>>51423683
How in depth is A+? I'm getting the impression that is very basic "how to apply thermal paste" type stuff.
>>
>>51425586
It's basic but it's also full of completely useless shit you'll never use
>>
>>51425586
Did you know that you can daisy chain 63 firewire devices off of one port?

How about 127 usb devices?

No? Well, they'll ask you that shit.
>>
>>51425705
lol what is this actual point of knowing that?
>>
>>51425738
There is none, but you have to be tested over something.

My book is rife with typos and stupid incorrect shit like "AMD processors run cooler than Intels".

How hard was the lp1 thinking of doing it. Any good books learning material?
>>
>>51425788
What's your day look like?

Are there any positions that don't have me talking to fucking outside customers?? I don't mind working with internal employees, but I'd hate taking calls having to ask people to restart their fucking computer.
>>
>>51427635
there's some on the wiki.
>>
Should I pursue a Pharm.D? I can take the PCAT this summer and I think my grades and shit are OK enough to get accepted.
Is being a Pharmacist a decent career? I really hate my school and I'll get to skip senior year if I do it because you don't need a bachelors.
>>
>>51427589
Get some certs, you're in a good position right now but you could do so much better.
>>
thinking of getting an a+ cert as my first cert
need advice doe
what are good learning material for it
also what jobs can the a+ get you?
>>
>>51429842
THIS

I am going to go for my A+. I tried a few years ago and failed the test by 10 points and was pretty bummed out about it. I am looking on going towards community college for the classes towards it as I discovered that learning at self-pace is not my thing. I get distracted..hence me...on /g/
>>
>>51429732
You'll be a much less competitive candidate for Pharm school if you don't have a biology/chemistry degree. Also they generally want experience working as a pharm tech.
>>
>>51429842

As far as I know (haven't taken it yet) A+ is basically a sign of your competence and computer literacy. It should definitely be the first cert you get though, because it lays the foundation for the others.
>>
>>51429884
I'm currently on track for a bio degree, which is utterly fucking useless by the way.
All of the pharmacy schools I've looked at don't care about previous work experience and don't consider it.
>>
How hard is it to get a help desk job? I graduated back in May with an MIS degree and recently had a phone interview. They told me they'd get back to me on Monday, but didn't and I fear the worst.
>>
>>51429984
That's the first I ever heard of them not caring. I was pre-pharm and got accepted but switched. I needed experience and letters of recommendation to be considered along with at least a 3.25gpa. Its a good career but its not like it was. My friends that got accepted have retail jobs and they've been cutting back new hires on pay. I also didn't want $100k of debt
>>
>>51430084
But the debt can get payed off at your leisure.
And I'm willing to work one of those night shifts, so I don't think finding a job would be too hard. Definitely better than someone with a degree in bio, chem or shit like IT.
What school did you get into?

Bout ready to fucking quit though. I'm stuck doing QA work because manglement can't be bothered to staff positions. 80 hour weeks on salary is no fun.

Midwest btw
>>
>>51430188
>manglement can't be bothered to staff positions
meaning you have no chance at promotion?

Your salary is decent, so unless you have something better in the bag, stay.

I scored really high in my reviews, but I've been pigeon holed into supporting a very large, specific, aging software environment. Not a single enhancement request that we've submitted to the devs has gotten done.

The 80 hour weeks are spent copy-pasting from a report into a google doc. I'm not learning anything, and have no time to improve upon the process.

Other engineers in our org get to manage Hadoop, Storm, and other big name products that are used elsewhere. I get a 20 year old solution that can't go away and can't be improved.
>>

University of Texas - Austin. The last thing I'll mention, not to dissuade you, is the requirements are just that.. They may be low but there aren't generally 1000+ students applying for maybe 150-250 slots. I believe the average PCAT score at Austin was around 75percentile for composite. These programs are highly competitive. If your GPA is under 3.5 then you'll need a reason why and that's why experience with a Pharmacy is key during the Interview. I had a 3.7 for my Chemistry degree with a PCAT composite of 88. I still was rejected from some schools.
>>
>>51430401
I should hopefully be around a 3.4 because of fucking orgo.
I test pretty well though, and I'll be studying all through winter break and next semester. So I'm expecting a to be in the 90th percentile for the PCAT hopefully. I'm gonna have 3 semesters of bio tutoring, and I'll try to get someone to sign off on a few hundred hours of pharmacy volunteering or whatever.
I live in NYC, so I have about 9 schools I can apply too, with Boston and Albany seeming like they're pretty easy to get into.
Pls tell me I have some hope. Pls
>>
>>51430477
Of course man. You can do whatever you want. Rape that PCAT (85+ composite) and 3.4 will work fine. Get 3 letters - 1 from a Pharmacist and 2 from Academics. If you do all that and interview well then you shouldn't have an issue. Goodluck anon, I'm rooting for you.
>>
>>51430509
Oh I forgot to mention. I have 3 letters so far, one from a dentist (I'm predental but fuck all that schooling), one from an English professor that liked me, and a third from my intro biology professor. Can I just use the two I got from school, or do I need to go out and beg an Indian Pharmacist to sign a bs letter that I wrote myself?
>>
>>51430562
Yep. You're set bruh.
>>
>>51430567
Thanks bro. All I want frkm life is a decent job isn't isn't too involved and pays enough to support my weeb and technology hobbies. I figure pharmacy fits that more than dentistry.
Was the debt the only factor that made you turn down Pharm school?
>>
>>51430329

Wtf guys, is this 1990? A+ is a waste of time especially given today's online education opportunities.

You can get from 0 to BS and then MS in CS degree all online from Georgia tech (#7 US wide) with Udacity for like $7k. But these days depending on what you want to do even CS is overkill. Just get a few Micro-degrees from udacity or coursera specializations and start networking (meetups, clubs, online competitions, etc)

Your formatting sucks. Period. Either align left or center all the way. And don't manually align (like seriously wtf bro)
Also, wtf is 'Conclusion'? Change that to 'Strengths' and change that chunk of junk to point form. Add in Weaknesses to point out SOME (LIKE 2) VERY VERY COMMON SILLY THING YOU'RE NOT GOOD AT.
Like my weakness i wrote that I can be disorganized when i have alot of tasks, and that i cannot work under pressure well. Should probably also write in your strengths that you are constantly trying to overcome your weaknesses and better yourself.
>>
>>51433760
what kind of retard writes his weaknesses in a resume?

my fucking sides
>>
>>51434431
You obviously dont work in management to know they dont even read beyond your past experiences and education qualification. As long as it's 2 pages long. The extras are only reviewed when you are up for review. Nothing wrong with puttingba mediocre and generic weakness like >>51433760 said. Shows you admit it. Of course, only if you can pull it off.
>>
>>51425705
so you pick the most useful bits of the trivia. Well played anon.

I would have went into all the northbridge/southbridge shit.
>>
>>51430329
I am sorry anon. I keep my high wage job as well. The only thing that gets me through it getting more certs and actually doing something when the economy decides to move.
