Which PHP framework is the best?

I looked at Laravel but it looked way too big and cumbersome. When I did
npm install
just so I could get Bootstrap, it installed about 100MB of dependencies. Literally what the actual fuck. Therefore I am now trying out CodeIgniter which seems much simpler and leaner.

only 100MB? that's low for a modern framework

none
the only scenario where you'd use a framework like laravel or symfony is, you're a 10 years experience senior php dev working in a team of 20+ doing some really big application

a router is the only third party library you need, do the rest yourself

Don't use npm for frontend dependencies, just download the css/js and you'll get rid of about 99 MB

I come from Rails and an empty Rails project I just made is 39KB. I guess that's because Rails dependencies are not stored locally in the project, but globally in your gem directory. So maybe I should install all these node dependencies globally, with
npm install -g
or something? Even before those dependencies, an empty Laravel project is 22MB which itself is absurd.

Well I am trying to get a job with companies with teams of that size, where PHP is what they use. That's the only reason I'm trying to learn PHP at all.

But installing bootstrap-sass with node seems to be the easiest way of getting all that SASS goodness. I suppose alternatively I could just download the source SASS files and... write a Grunt task or something to compile them? Not used Grunt, don't really know what it is, I think that's what it's for though... Jesus, Rails is just so much fucking easier than all this bollocks.

Learn Laravel for easy mode or Symfony for employment. Most other PHP frameworks are trash
