Is Lenovo a good company for "gaming" laptops?
I'm probably going to be on a rather busy travel schedule in the coming months until late 2016, so I'm thinking of buying a gaming laptop and then either selling it or giving it to my brother(or selling it to my brother)when I go back home. This notebook is about $1000 and seems to be good for running new games:

I don't particularly care for ultra quality gameplay, but 45+ fps would be nice.

Get a Lenovo Y50, op. I have one of the new ones with the GTX 960M and it kicks ass. It pretty much outperforms my desktop which hasn't been upgraded for 2 years (AMD machine though) and I managed to get dual-boot Gentoo/Win8.1 running on it. My only issue with it is really how locked down it is on the inside. The BIOS has a hardware whitelist which won't even boot the system if you do something as simple as replace the wireless card, but I managed to find an Intel card that is branded by Lenovo and it booted with it. In another Lenovo laptop I have it wouldn't work in it though, so sometimes it's a hit or miss with hardware swaps. All in all it's a really good machine but if you really give a shit about how proprietary some of the innards are or being part of the botnet then it might not be the machine for you.

I just bought one of these a few months ago. Great laptop for under 1k.
the touchpad is shit though, use a mouse or the touch screen if you really must.

I have the 4k Y50.
Just make sure you get the Maxwell GPU. Avoid the 2Gb 860M as its Keplar.
Also, my 4710HQ will not turbo, I have to force it.
I can play well optimizes games maxed. Fallout 4 I have to lock at 30.
It can play games Valve and lightweight games like LoL just fine and keep over 60FPS.

And for the lightweight games I meant at 3840x2160. A lot of people told me it couldn't run LoL at 4k, and it does so just fine.
I'm looking at the Y50 and it seems to be more expensive(or about the same price), with a 860m and with half the RAM as the Y700.
Am I missing something?

For badly optimized games like Bops3 or Fo4 you will need to turn some settings down to get 60fps.
If you get the y50, make sure you replace the god awful drive they come with.
