>10TB

I will reach your level someday sempai
>>
>>51408265
356 * 26 = 9,256 Megabytes or ~10GB not the 10TB you claim. 10TB is a shit ton of cartoons.
>>
>>51408302
>>
>>51408196
how much of it have you watched?

70% probably

doesn't add up to 10TB, faggot.

>mfw 19 TB of storage, 8 TB internal, 11 external, just sitting in ext4
>no RAID, no back ups, no real organization

Who else /fucking stupid/ here? I really need to fix my system but it's so god damn expensive and time consuming.
>>
I want to build a home server with RAID for this purpose. What drives should I get? WD Red? RAID 0? Don't need redundancy.
>>
>>51408968
Reds are fine
RAID0 is guaranteed dataloss
You probably want want redundancy, at the very least RAID5
>>
>>51408570
The used space doesn't add up to that either.
>>
>>51408968
>I want shitloads of data in a RAID array with 0 redundancy
Be sure to post on here again when one drive fails and you lose all of your data.
>>
>>51408932
I just use high-end drives

I call it NAED, for "non-redundant array of expensive drives"

>>51408994
you seem upset
>>
>>51408993
>>51409019
But what if I told you I planned on backing up.
>>
>>51408402
Fix your fucking fonts.
>>
>>51409044
>using a whole other set of drives for backing up your RAID array
>not just using RAID 5 or 6
>>
>>51409084
Friendly reminder that RAID isn't a replacement for backing up.
>>
>>51409040
>you seem upset
I'm not the guy who originally replied to you but I am capable of doing math. I don't see why you feel the need to exaggerate your weebshit collection to such an extent though.
>>
>>51409044
Then that's good. I would still recommend RAID5/6 just because it offers the good advantages of RAID0 while not having the problem of complete and total dataloss in the event of a drive failure.
>>
>>51409111
If I do that the price of my drives suddenly rises.
>>
>>51409126
How so? In storage efficiency vs redundancy you can't beat RAID5/6.

Doing RAID0 is serious stupid, you would have to rebuild ALL of your data from back up if 1 drive fails.
>>
>>51409164
I'd have to buy 4 reds instead of just 2. Maybe just go with blue. Is there even a difference?
>>
>>51409108
I'm not, I have 2 3TB drives, 1 2TB and 2 1TB = 10TB. That's 10TB of network shares. I never said it was full.

>By default Spotlight sends all entered queries and location information to Apple. The data is accompanied by a unique identifying code, which Apple alleges to rotate every 15 minutes to a new identifier. In response to privacy concerns, Apple has stated that they do not use the data to create profiles of their users, and that query and location information is only shared with their partner, Bing, under a strict contract which prohibits the information from being used for advertising purposes. Additionally, Apple has stated that while Spotlight seeks to obscure exact locations, the information is typically more precise in densely populated areas and less so in sparse ones.[

>he didn't turn that off
>>
What a time to be alive
>>
Does anyone else just buy 2 of each drive and use the second one to back up every few months?
>>
>>51408932
ext4 is fine. The people who go 'lol use ZFS for your 2TB seedbox' are dumbass ricers no better than /tpg/ and desktop thread niggers. BTRFS and ZFS are for datacenters not animu collections
>>
>>51411074
But non I was planning on getting 6x6 TB WD Reds and doing RAID6. Since I already have 2 4 TB WD blacks I was hoping BTRFS RAID5/6 would be stable but I'm not seeding any improvement that'll get me to switch. Either way I wanted to get 30 TB of space out of what I have, and that's a lot of data to run on a non checksumming file system.

With ext4 I'd have to partition all of the 6 TB drives into 4 and 2 TB partitions and run a 8 x 4 TB RAID6 plus a 6 x 2 TB RAID6 and that just seems like I'm asking for a nightmare. In BTRFS with dynamic striping I could do 4x2 + 6x6 = 44*.75 = 33 TB effective.

My back up option is 44/2 = 22 TB in RAID10 which is an option, but 8 TB short of my goals.
>>
>>51410903
Isn't that called RAID? two HDD's, one copying everything the other does as it does it?
>>
>>51409362
I only got 643 shows on backlog. Growing every weeks though.
>>
>>51411539
I pruned mine recently, there's still dozens there though and I decided last night to catch up on the last five seasons of stuff so now all that stuff is coming down the pipe.
>>
>>51411467
Why would you even bother with a RAID 1? Just keep one unplugged and update it everyone once in a while. Sure, you lose the perk of automatic and continuous backups, but having a cold storage device keeps it safe from power surges and stuff like crypto-locker
>>
Also lets remind everyone that RAID is not a backup.
>>
>>51411733
I just keep it in an external bay and plug it in every few months and I've got another external drive that doesn't get used for much, so I copy it over to that occasionally too. It's good enough for me, I can't really be bothered to get too fancy just for some chinky cartoons.

What the fuck is the point in spending hundreds or even thousands on hardware when you can just download the shit on demand? Hoarding is a pathology. See a therapist.
>>
>>51412638
>streaming
>>
>>51412653
No. When you want to watch something, download it.
>>
>>51412638
You must be underage if you don't realize how sites and torrents come and go eventually. Drive space is fucking cheap nowadays too you poor faggot. Collection only becomes hoarding when it is a detriment to your health you stupid shit. A couple drives is by no means pathological.
>>
>>51412670
>download something in 2008
>be a faggot and don't seed

People like you are why we can't have nice things.
>>
>>51412670
>Watching youtube videos instead of downloading them
Whoa, dude how could anyone argue that logic
It's like, Why waste your time watching it online when you can just download it and then after about an hour you can watch it just like that then delete it. So simple yet casuals don't even bother with it because theyre so lazy
>>
>>51412750
Your pedophile cartoons are only 20 minutes per episode. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to download the first one, and you can download the rest while you are watching. Besides, there are petabytes of media out there. Trying to anticipate your future desires by pre-emptively downloading that media is a hopeless endeavour.

>>51412702
>>51412705
Private trackers provide incentives to maintain content. They don't depend on autistic hoarders.
>>
>>51412705
wait, you expect everyone to seed forever?

also
>delete the data
not even once
>>
>>51412842
Yeah I know, just 10 whole minutes.
Why be already half done the episode by then rather than waste your time and have to click next on the next video, that's so much trouble.
But on the contrary finding the links to your favorite episodes, choosing a directory, and then waiting isn't inconvinient at all. I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to waste their time and then possibly get stuck seeding, or have to look for better quality than the accidental download of the episode with 5 pixels.

Fuck Spotlight. It rebuilds the entire index every time my 2013 MBP crashes. (Which is often.)
