Lets all post our predictions for the general state of technology in 2020.

You start.
>>
>>51404034
You must be joking.
>>
>>51404034
>You start.
that's not how this works famley
>>
>>51404034
It's just 5 years from now, you faggot. The future only seems exciting when we're talking about at least decades from now.
>>
In 2020:
>VR is popular and successful
>Smartwatches are still not very used
>Apple products have borderless displays
>AMD's newest products are more successful than their NVidia counterpart
>Glasses with augmented reality are being developed by more and more producers
>4chan goes under serious changes and users are against them
>I still don't get dubs
>>
>>51404171
> implying OP isn't from 1985
>>
>>51404180
>AMD's newest products are more successful than their NVidia counterpart

The only thing that's not gonna happen. By 2020 AMD will be already bankrupt.
>>
>>51404034

>>
>>51404180
>>AMD's newest products are more successful than their NVidia counterpart
>AMD still being alive
You had me until here.
too obvious
>>
>>51404142
about the picture? it was just the one i liked in google search

>>51404162
OK well my brain is switched off at the moment but i'll gloss over a few things

- Windows will continue to improve, but no Developers still. Xbox being able to integrate with other microsoft devices will put sony at a huge disadvantage in the next console

Telstra are going to have reliability issues with their current models. Especially those falcon wing doors. They will be popular cars though and cheapish for the normie model

Google will be in a transition process forced upon them by government etc. to require them to not rape peoples privacy in order to improve their services

Apple will be Apple

Most big Tech companies will now have Autonomous vehicles or upcoming ones. Google's will look the gayest but probably be the smartest
>>
>>51404034
>4K went mainstream in 2017
>8K starts to become mainstream in 2019/2020
>VR is big and loads of people buy it just for VR sex games and sex toys
>the average laptop is fanless and too thin for an ethernet port
>smartwatches become useful
>people are still trying to make a full sized robotic sex doll
>Tesla released the Model 3 in 2017 and starts producing Model 3 in large numbers and it actually becomes affordable and reasonable to switch to a fully electric vehicle
>>
>>51404215
Damn. How can you be wrong about absolutely everything?
>>
>>51404212
Possible, and potentially awesome for Microsoft. I just want more stuff to have standards and APIs. Like I've stopped using a lot of 3rd party iOS apps because while they are often much better than apples built in apps, if you use Siri a lot, then something like evernote is useless compared to Notes. Google maps is useless compared to apple maps. omnifocus is crippled compared to Reminders app. etc.

>>51404239
I'd like to hear your vision
>>
>>51404229
1080p isn't even mainstream yet
>>
>>51404229
At some point TVs may start just being installed into you wall and left in the house if you move, like a hot water system or air con is now
>>

Hopefully, there's a green energy revolution or else we're gonna be heading for a worldwide disaster

They're gonna be bought by someone, desu.
>>
>>51404190
That would be the only way to experience the "exciting" future. You can think about any remotely imaginable inventions and technologies that may one day become real, but when they do, they'll be just your mundane everyday stuff.

Going straight from 2015 to 2065 for one day would be extremely exciting. Waking up on November 18, 2065 when that day finally comes will be as dull as it gets, we'll be old bitter farts 50 years older than we are now and only annoyed by all that dumb modern shit around us.
>>
>>51404316
Why would they be bought?
The x86 license is non-transferable, AMD's technology and patents are trash (they open most of their tech out anyway), and the company itself is bleeding 200 million dollars every quarter and the only hope they have is Zen which is in late 2016, and it's not going to save them.
>>
>>51404034
>Holographic displays everywhere
>Advertisement projected into your face
>Some bionic implants in your eyes to block the ads
>Telemetry wide-spread, right now you are sending information to the NSA about your thoughts, which are being read by the device strapped on your skull, which is now essential for social life just like Facebook and Smartphones were.
>Open-source outlawed.
>Every few days hear about arrests made on someone for using Linux/BSD, which are now illegal due to their licenses.
>Average computer now has less processing speed than the average computer a few years ago, instead they have light highly optimized software, and most processing is off-loaded onto the cloud. You rent processing speed now. Local processing is outlawed except for businesses.
>>
>>51404290
Australia has the potential to really kick this off. Due to prior government subsidies, Probably more than 50% of houses now have solar panels installed on their roofs and a box that sends the power back to the grid. The next step is doing another program but this time with energy storage solutions. RedFlow have the best batteries for this too and Simon Hackett is heavily involved which gives them a good change at succeeding. Our trimester was was a pretty tech savvy telecommunications minister beforehand. And our new chief scientist has said that he is really into grid scale energy storage. Also just signed a nuclear energy agreement with India too. We just need to stop giving coal to other countries

Nuclear power for the masses is the best bet but does rely on an intelligent populace who is both interested and literate in basic physics. As it stands the only thing stopping us from a golden age of nuclear is fear mongers selling books. Or people buying them. Either way.
>>
>>51404359
You know it was a thing back in the days, right ?

That's why old software are so light, because software companies didn't have the money to buy powerful hardware, so they would rent it.
>>
>>51404318
I really hope they make cryogenics feasible before I get too old, i would love to go into a pod and be awake a second later to a thousand year jump with technology advances and a Utopian world.

Although the likely thing is my skull ends up being used as a cup for some raider since the world will collapse before that.

>>
>>51404946
>Citation?
Just google 'AMD x86 license' maybe with 'transferable'.
It's common knowledge at this point.

>It's not going to save them
Zen could be better than skylake and it wouldn't save AMD. I'm not commenting on how good Zen is, I'm commenting on how doomed AMD is.

Remember how back in the P4 days, when AMD released the Athlon 64 they got majority marketshare and almost destroyed intel since they had released a processor that was MUCH better?
Of course you don't since intel jewed the fuck out of the market to make sure the athlon 64 sold like ass.
>>
>>51404923
It will be longevity drug therapies that will extend your life, not bs cryo.

You think that's not possible? Read some news faggot
>>
>>51404976
I feel like there are other companies that make x86 CPUs though... How does that work in terms of licensing?

I will admit that AMD doesn't have the best marketing department, but they always appealed to computer enthusiasts. I remember reading PC magazines that had ads all about the Athlon vs P4 in favour of the Athlon. It isn't like it wasn't a thing, it was more so Intel had its die hard fan base, much like Apple. They were loud and proud, which washed out lots of AMD fans.
>>
>>51405002
Sounds about right
>>
>>51405038
>all pornography is banned
Not going to happen. The pornography needs to be legal, otherwise the surveillance data isn't as useful. You need politicians and people you want to manipulate to be browsing porn so you can then take these records and blackmail them.

I was going to make some types of porn illegal first, but that's already a thing in the UK. Other than cp and bestiality I mean.

I was also going to make reverse engineering illegal, but thanks to TPP it will happen much earlier than 2020.
>>
>>51405038
>all pornography banned

Alright i can see femicunts taking out the live ones and making it illegal, but what about drawn porn? Surely it cant hurt anyone... its drawn...
>>
>>51405061
It's Intel, AMD, and VIA.
And VIA is irrelevant since they don't have AMD_64. No-one else makes x86 CPUs.
Only intel and AMD make x86_64 CPUs.
>it was more so Intel had its die hard fan base,
Haha oh FUCKING WOW
How can you be so naive? And uninformed?
Did you miss the billion dollar settlement where Intel was sued for bribing OEMs to not use AMD processors? And that's just the tip of the fucking iceberg. Intel isn't marketing or die-hard fanboys, it's ruthless cuthroat jewing.

And putting things into 'fanboys' is stupid. Especially since the enthusiast space back in the p4 day is tiny (it's still tiny today). The real market is OEMs, especially in the p4 days. Intel settled for a couple billion dollars but the thing they got successfully sued for cost AMD hundreds of billions in the long run.

How x86 licensing works is that if either Intel or AMD say you don't get to make x86 processors, you don;t.
>>
>>51405139
Not quite- it's the production of types of porn not the porn itself that's banned in the UK.
It's not like korea where porn is banned completely.
>>
>>51405141
They already banned drawn cp dude.
If all pornography is rape then drawn pornography is also rape.
>>
>>51405180

>>

Well it's as I say: 21st century feminism is why women were oppressed in the first place.
20th century feminism was actually a lot about sexual liberation, they embraced pornography for the most part.

samsung paved the road with their vnand, and amd has set the new standard for graphics card and potentially system memory with their 2.5d hbm.

i know early articles are claiming xpoint will blow both out of the water, but that at least proves there are others with interest in competing technologies.

and like the other anon stated, its still technically an ssd. a more likely prediction would be 2d memory standards and possibly random access memory will become a thing of the past.

Functional programming becomes popular for the ease of parallelism. Most processors are now 16+ cores and programs take advantage of this. We're rid of C++ and Java for good.

Probably just wishful thinking.
>>
realistic predictions coming through:

apple with acquire a larger user base, as more companies accept them into their office spaces.

google will expand their google fiber infrastructure across the us. their end goal being realistic "hot spots" of data transfer for their self driving cars, which will still be years off.

we will see an increase in full electric and plug in (is that the right terminology? i mean the ones with onboard motors for the sake of charging the battery) hybrids. at least a quarter of most fleets will be one of the above, and at least half of all cars will have a hybrid option.

consumer grade cpus will continue to gain very little in the performance sector. at least on desktops. mobile parts will become more efficient, but similarly gain little in performance.

the us will inch closer to free healthcare, but republicans in the senate will fight it for the sake of fighting it.
free tuition will remain a pipe dream, but government funding guidlines will loosen slightly.

the next generation of consoles will come prematurely and be slightly more powerful versions of the existing ones. similar to pc games, they can be played on the older consoles at reduced fidelity. they wont be recieved well.

>>
>>51405719
true.
the shittiest part about obama care is money still goes to insurance companies that are essentially getting paid to do absolutely nothing.

i wonder if theres any realistic chance of proper free healthcare. i also wonder how many jobs would be lost in the transition from private insurance companies to a fully government, tax payer funded system.
i also wonder how often that fund would get dipped into improperly, the way our leaders have essentially fucked us all out of social security over the past 40 years.
>>
>>51405768
>i wonder if theres any realistic chance of proper free healthcare. i also wonder how many jobs would be lost in the transition from private insurance companies to a fully government, tax payer funded system

it doesn't work like that. people with the means will retain private insurance since the govt options tend to suck in comparison, and companies that want to keep good talent will continue to offer private insurance as a benefit.
>>
>>51405747
the difficult part about flying cars isnt the technology, its the difficulty to pilot literally anything that can fly and the lack of supporting infrastructure.
imagine a world where you need a pilots liscense to drive a fucking car.
imagine the early adopters of flging cars, are they going to land at an airport everytime they go out? if so, how are they going to gain clearence, airports dont allow just any traffic to come through.
and dont tell me theyll be able to just land on the street. any unexpected cross traffic and youre fucking dead.

flying cars are stupid for so many more reasons than simple lack of technology

If AMD goes under Intel will either be broken up or they'll have to license x86 to whoever buys AMD's IP. Besides, AMD owns x86_64, which means someone will have to buy it up and it won't be Intel. As for Zen, just look at what Jim Keller did at Apple. Hell, look at what he did the last time he was at AMD. You're forgetting that he's the one who put Intel on the ropes.

Yeah, that could probably work too for the most part, but having sensors in the dishes themselves would provide much better nutrient and mass analysis. I've no idea how that would work, though. "Smart Cups" that scan your drink already exist, but they're still relatively new.

Besides, MyFitnessPal lacks some of the products outside of the USA - they have the biggest user base. European users do exist, but the majority of the users are American.

and they send all that information to your insurance companies who increase your rates and deny you coverage for being a fatass.

I remember when video games were "creepy"

They're coming for your hentai games next, didn't notice how youtubers have been reviewing/reacting to those creepy anime porn games lately?

Literally just yelled "god dammit" in my apartment because of how accurate this probably is. Maybe not for 2020 but probably by 2030.

Why did you post a car from 2008?

Sadly...yeah. Either that, or advertising. God forbid they don't play audio ads on that thing.

That platform wouldn't be open source - that would be wishful thinking on our part.

And hey, I'm cool with a future that doesn't allow you to become fat. Fat is bad.

there is one constant in this world and that is porn. People have been making porn using the highest technology available to them for years. Empires may rise and fall, but porn will prevail.

It'll be an implant and most people will get one voluntarily because of conveniences it offers. Much like smartphones and Facebook today.

That won't happen until the 2050-2060s.

We can [harshly] reconstruct some images from the dreams - google it, but actual mind reading + transferring that to online servers is decades away.

It's gonna be Sony that's gonna launch the first 8K phone, mark my word.

Mostly because nowadays porn is a fucking HUGE industry that moves a fuckton of money.

discuss the future. that's a good topic.
what do you guys think it'll become of social media?
there are many possible outcomes but two extreme scenarios:

FB becomes society 2.0 and stuff we can't quite think (yet) will be routed and ported there. Things (simple e.g., + others I can't fathom) like human resources, even some kind of education (FB universities/schools) and anything 'social' (and economical) will be mainly conducted there first, and in presence second.. Also it's prevalence shifts the overall construct of the 'internet' turning FB itself in the main 'thing' on the internet, holding every site, fora, e-tailers as we know them today under its umbrella and rendering the surface web of today as a middle layered deepweb (only outcasts and parias would even bother to search anything outside of FB). You wouldn't connect to the internet anymore, you would 'log in' to your FB (complte with it's physical cabling (network) and isp (free?). It holds everything.

[remember, i'm playing the extremes; also, it would probably only work with a google alliance of sorts... and the governments would get a freeby internet deanonimizer (unique id's) without much backlash: that was the main prupose of it, actually. Random examples are bad because i'm not very smart]

or it's a fad that will die like most stuff from the nineties we can't even recall. People born in the 2000's will look to the 40 and 50 year olds still logging to fb with contempt and it'll become a hallmark of backwardness "lol, he still logs into his fb, whadda a loser".

[but then, I think that the internet already has such a clout that we consider similar parameters within the structural organization of society: there's no power vacuum. So what would replace it? vr social games a la jap Light Novels?]

for some reason, I find FB's death sceanrio a lot more stupid than it's veritable conquer of the world.

I mean, even if something more prevalent comes along (the new thing, that we can't quite grasp yet), it would simply integrate and assimilate there. It would lose it's place as a protagonist, but it could survive perfectly lurking in the background).

SSDs overtake HDDs completely. Datacenters start adopting quantum computers (d-wave or otherwise).
>>
>>51408483
fine tuning the semantics:
FB wouldn't be just a another thing on the internet. It would become the internet itself.
(coopting the means of access and the content. physical networks and domain registering, all of it under its clout). And making it difficult (but not impossible to do anything outside of it, naturally. Like any other evil corp).

a dystopian exercize.

Correction: the internet for the average pleb.
They aren't going to be buying out the major cloud providers anytime soon (i.e. Amazon)

>Just google 'AMD x86 license' maybe with 'transferable'.
Not him but I suggest you do just that. Part of one of the court cases AMD won was that Intel must come with a very good reason for denying the x86 license to whoever buys AMD if that were to happen.
>>
>>51408819
it's a thought exercize. Extremes.

I was comtemplating the possibility of them coopting the electoral process and providing e-government tools for Direct Democracy, which wouldn't exist outside of it. They would themselves legitimize the power structures of the world, and recalcitrant governements trying to remain outside of it woul face diplomatic, social and economical antagonism.

>tfw the next leader of the world is the dude with more likes on FB.

You can get a rough idea of what a liquid contains by sending an infrared signal through it and measure the resistance of it coming back.

I can't imagine its terribly accurate, but with enough calibration and proper programing, it could be fairly efficient at detecting common drinks like soda and coffee, though it would be very difficult to account for any variables such as sugar and creamer.

if I were satan I would totally be a major social media pioneer.

the potential of it is staggering:
>the internet as it is. it's a kool thing.
>social media site. Gathers a bunch of people there, for doing people stuffs and just be peoples on the internetz. And makes a ton of money for you.
>(you are satan, so you're also awesome at fund raising)
>purchase one company here, another there. All quietly. You create a various nameless holdings for the more inconspicious buy outs.
>you coopt the means of access, all of the infrasctrure (up to and including cell carriers) and all of the domains. There are no (viable) registers outside your own domain anymore.
>you rearrange the internet. What was simply social media becomes the internet itself. (Every user under it's unique profile, so you can sell a deanonymizer to the world's govs for your monopoly).
>next step, elections are under your direct supervision. Don't be silly anon, it's just that elections are carried over by the internet nowadays... but you are the internet itself.
>next, banking services are mainly done under your auspices. Your next move is to create an easy integration tool, what used to be money now are just credits linked to your profile. Banks cease to exist (you avoided the naggy buy out) and you are now the main creator of money (after some backdoor agreements with the leaders you elected yourself, and since you're stan you simply promised a cozy place in hell for the old bankers, so they won't bother you much).
>most of the commerce is obviously under your tutelage by this point..
>>
>>51409684
>also, since you are awesome at social engineering, steering the general perception of the populace would be childs' play. You already have all the means and you even algos that tell you which path would cause the least amount of discent or backlash.
>sit back and enjoy thousand years' reign of darkness.
>>
>>51409684
>banks
I meant banks, central banks and currency.
Since you're satan you'll make it work somehow - with his accounting team, I unterstand that there was a big leap there.
(I also lost a chunk of text between commerce and big brother, but satan doesn't care. he's cool with it).

And btw, satan, alien overlord, stereotypical supervillain, zuckerberg, jew. it's all the same in the end.
