What is a DAW?
Digital
Audio
Workstation

>What DAW is yours?

>How long you been on it?

>How long have you been into music?

>What genre do you play with the most?

>What Genre do you think you are best at?

>Have you thought about changing up to something else?

>What's your favorite synth, no matter how dumb it is?

>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get no where?

>link us your work if you want to get pointers on certain aspects of your work.

>what do you want to be when you grow up?

Bonus points:

>How do you think you can improve your music?

1 simple rule I hope you can guys do, please don't be assholes to those who
have a different perspective on another DAW, [unless it's LMMS]
no matter what it is or how shitty it is. I know there are some very laughable
ones out there but ya know...So please just be as helpful as you can.

>this is /g/ not /mu/ gtfo

We do not talk about the music as it is but how it's created and what we use and how to help
others get better

Why would anyone use FL Studio?

Limited mental capacities
>>
>>51403394
easier, convenient. Any one could use Ableton. What could happen? They could be godly they could be shit. Now replace Ableton with FL. Same concept. A daw is a daw. It's easier to handle.

>>51403405
>thinking that you require an expensive ass daw to make music
I know people who use tracker
>>
>>51403420
>A daw is a daw.
Wrong, FL Studio heavily misses features, especially when it comes to handling hardware and MIDI

I'm not necessarily talking about expensive DAWs. I wouldn't say Reaper, Logic and Studio One are expensive. DAWs like Cubase and ProTools are expensive but yet extremely powerful and rich in features especially in contrast to a toy like FL Studio
>>
>>51403420
>>thinking that you require an expensive ass daw to make music
>implying anyone actually pays for DAWs
>>
>>51403456
I've tried Ableton and It's really confusing. I've seen Protools and it has nothing I want. I've seen cubase and it makes no sense how to see work with it. Protoolsm logic, reaper and Studio 1 I've not seen enough on them

Also I primarily do house and chiptunes, so I don't need a whole lot to work with it.

>>51403473
thats the point
>>
>>51403473
I do pay for DAWs because I'm not one of those EDM faggots who pirate software even though they make shit loads of money with their fake shows. 98% of these EDM faggots don't have the slightest clue about music production, which you can hear in their mixes.
>>
>>51403456
>FL Studio heavily misses features
Like what?
>>
>>51403484
>I've seen cubase and it makes no sense
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. That's because you've started out with a retarded tool like FL Studio which makes you learn how to mix in a completely incorrect way.

Nobody listens to my work but me
I want to work with some sort of audio/Daw/midi/vst company (in school for CS)
I need to practice a hell of a lot more

On the topic of work, does anyone work for Ableton/FL/novation/Sugarbytes/akai/anything related? Working for someone like that, whether it be in software development or hardware would be my dream job. Anyone got any advise on how to land a job at a company like that? I'm trying to familiarize myself with a lot of daw's and vst's, and I'm planning on trying to make my own basic effect vst's and maybe making a custom midi controller with arduino, but I'm really looking for something I can do to get a foot in the door with a company like that so I can get a job with cs/ee where I don't hate my life.

>>

>slightest clue about music production
that's why I make these threads weekly, to help understand better. FL isn't bad, just like none of the others really. It's all in how they work.

>>51403499
he's trying to look cool infront of everyone anon. Just ignore him.

>>51403509
do you enjoy being an asshole for no reason?

>>51403518
as for jobs? It's hard dude. I was suppose to work with some guys making a game, cause I wanna be a music game composer and they liked my stuff. They said that they would message me when they get started. 2 months later nothing. I guess you just be like"Listen to my mixtape" and hope someone listens to it that likes it and has more connections.
>>
>>51403499
Things like control room in Cubase. Have you ever tried connecting a complete mixing desk to FL Studio? Have fun. Have you ever worked with a hardware synth in FL Studio and tried out different MIDI patterns? Have fun

You don't even have notation, you can't modify control values of SINGLE MIDI elements in FL Studio. There is no feature like track versions either.. I could go in for hours
>>
>>51403559
11 and 12 don't have this issue

yes you can. you can control everything in there if you know where what is. it's not complicated. I just don't need.
>>
>>51403579
No you can't, you don't even know what I mean. It's kinda funny, you faggots have never even studied the massive amount of a tool like Cubase and act like you k of shit about it. Comparing a tool like Cubase is literally like comparing Photoshop to paint. The only version you've probably ever seen live is that Team AiR version from 10 years ago, lel.

*with FL Studio.. and let me tell you why I'm being an ass hole when it comes to FL Studio users. Before I got into post production I worked in a mastering studio for 10 months and I had to master so many shitty FL Studio made EDM mixes that I fear I'm gonna die from ear cancer when I'm old. It has traumatized me for the rest of my life. These fucking amateur unbalanced overcompressed shit mixes.

Pilot. At least you get to travel, bang flight attendances, and do coke

Like I said, that is why I make this thread so we can talk about HOW to get better. Why do you have to be such an ass about it? If someone likes it, let them. There's nothing wrong with it.
>>
>>51403648
>Why do you have to be such an ass about it? If someone likes it, let them. There's nothing wrong with it.
There isn't but FL Studio users act like they know shit and say shit like "other DAWs are stupid, bad and have a bad workflow" which is the most stupid thing one could ever say. I don't even think it's a bad tool when it comes to collecting idea's.. but serious music production.. no.
>>
>>51403668
I don't. I know there are good programs out there and I know they are good. That's like me saying that all other Gaming consoles are shit besides Wii u or something. Compared to most I still suck bad but I'm trying to make a name for myself and when you say mixes, that makes me feel like im taking songs and mixing them in VDJ
if anything I do respect those other daws [not lmms. lets be a little serious]

>that's deadmau5 tho
and he's making money and we aren't at this.
Read that interview with him.

OK do this, go up to the top, see my soundcloud and tell me what you think of the orchestra stuff anon. My pokemon, zelda and Recess themes I did. How do they sound? can you tell they were originally FL? More than likely not.
>It's a midi file
beside the point

I think what it amts to is that /g/ users like shit as complicated as possible and when someone says"hey do you have a flat head for this?"
"No! but let me get you my ridiculous shovel/pliers/ weed mixing kit with something like it! Also it's open source" see my point?
>>
>>51403760
Deadmau5 only uses FL Studio to collect ideas. He doesn't finish his mixes with it, let alone use it with his massive hardware collection
>>
>>51403760
"Each of these tracks are then coarsely dumped into each of their respective tracks and I begin the actual “mixing” process. I mainly use Nuendo for compatibility of course with all the studios I operate in and around because their either Protools / Logic / or Nuendo themselves" top lel there you go
>>
>>51403789
of course. I know this too. I've watched plenty of his stuff on youtube.

but essentially, there's nothing OVERLY wrong with FL. Read my last thing of that post.
>>
>>51403760
>and he's making money and we aren't at this.
So does Martin Garrix and still my 5 year old site knows more about music production than him
>>
>>51403821
>5 year old site
*sister
>>
>>51403821
does he dubstep? i dont remember.

could be worse, there's a kid out in AU that got on the charts there that's fucking 12 while im over here struggling.
>>
>>51403856
>could be worse
No it possibly couldn't. Just check "Martin Garrix Future Music" on YouTube. He doesn't even have the decency of paying for his products even though he gets shit loads of money... unless his name is Team Air
>>
>>51403880
are you so mad at all this aren't you anon? I get it dude. Kids like him get big and we just sit here making what we can. Everyone has a different taste in music, and can hear things differently, being snobby about it, it's going to help.
>>
>>51403912
>Kids like him get big
The reason he got big is because he is that kind of a guy that can be well marketed, not because of his music.
>>
>>51403939
animals isn't bad. Animals is one of his better songs. I know his work now. just took me a moment to remember who he was.

what other DAW has a piano roll like FL?

>What DAW is yours?
FL Studio

>How long you been on it?
8-9 months.

>How long have you been into music?
It's more of a hobby I'm trying to get into during these low/boring times.

>What genre do you play with the most?
Push to play. I would like to eventually learn how to properly play the bass, and learn the guitar one of these years, and make natural blended music with a electronic core, along with "real" instruments blended in.

>What Genre do you think you are best at?
None, I need to actually finish shit.

>Have you thought about changing up to something else?
I would probably change stuff up from time to time, if I actually finished stuff, I don't want to be full blown electronic, I like the sound of a classic piano.

>What's your favorite synth, no matter how dumb it is?
Any synth that has a clean, and simple u.I., any synth can be powerful.

>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get no where?
Just depends on my hobbies, and life style.

>link us your work if you want to get pointers on certain aspects of your work.
I have a few things, but nothing to share ATM, maybe after finishing some more things, I eventually make a proper sound cloud.

>what do you want to be when you grow up?
A comfortable person with a slow lazy paced lifestyle, kinda like "The Dude"

Bonus points:

>How do you think you can improve your music?
Getting the motivation, and not get side tracked, and try to finish a track in one setting.
>>
>What DAW is yours?
FL Studio, Ableton Live

>How long you been on it?
5 years on FL, 1 on Ableton

>How long have you been into music?
Long

>What genre do you play with the most?
Trip hop

>What Genre do you think you are best at?
Rap beats

>Have you thought about changing up to something else?
I'm doing anything electronic, trying to get started on classical, jazz now.

>What's your favorite synth, no matter how dumb it is?
Absynth

>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get no where?
Absolutely. Started as a hobby anyway.

>what do you want to be when you grow up?
Astronaut, kek
