dropped phone in toilet, wet as fuck. main concern is my memory card, which i tried in other phones and my laptop and is damaged.

So many memories on this card; can someone tell me how to extract the files? I know there is software available but idk which ones to use.

Here's what comes up on screen when put sd card in.

PLS HELP
>>
It's fried, there is no magical software than can recover it. Hopefully you learned you don't keep such valuable files on a single volatile flash card.
>>
please no

look

Don't worry I'm sure your pictures are in the cloud.
>>
>>51395267
they aren't; I always turned off the option to internet backup and shit

I will check but I don't think they are.

Bet you feel like a dumbass now don't you.

what you should have done is turn the phone off, strip it down as far as possible (take the battery out, memory card out (topkek iphones) ) and leave them in rice in an airing cupboard for a week

if you plug it in and try it the electricity can short through the water and fuck it up
if you toilet the phone and it fucks then you hope that the power cut before the card fucked itself.
by using it you probably fucked it up worse if anything
>>
>>51395208
why do you use your phone on the loo?
are you one of those aussie shitposters?
>>
>>51395315
I ran it under water some more first, bc at that point the screen was still on and I wanted to clean it. Then I stripped it and dried it, but it stopped turning on so I fucking plugged it in to charge without knowing that's a massive no.

Then I buried it in rice as suggested elsewhere, and the phone is still there, but the memory card I tried on 3 other phones and my laptop and it's broken.

>>51395341
I was washing my hands and it fell from my pocket, man.
>>
>2015
>Not having a waterproof phone which is already an ancient invention
I've never dropped my phone in the toilet but it's just common sense not to buy phones that aren't waterproof. They are mobile devices which might see sweat or rain or splash or humidity.
>>
I sit in rice to dry off too

>and the phone is still there
put the fucking card in there you dumb asshole there could be water in it right now
that shit is under pressure underwater that pushes it in. in the air there is no reasin fir it to leave thats what the rice is for. leave it in the rice for a week, won't make it any worse.

Oh dear god. Just throw it in the trash now, don't waste any more time on it. It's done, over, dead, finished.

>samsung note 4
Yeah, that's not waterproof. If you absolutely need the pen then I think there's no waterproof alternative, but if you don't there are plenty. At least Sony makes all their flagship phones waterproof without making them look like tractor tyres. Samsung has some models too, I don't think others have them. They should though, it's an important feature like you have demonstrated.

>I only got it a few months ago... fucking £600 down the drain
Your pun amuses me.

On a similar note how would one recover files from a memory card that had memory leaks. If said card is required than I'm shit out of luck. But I have the files on my pc.
Any suggestions?
>>
This is what photorec was made for.
>>
>>51395675
What exactly do you think a memory leak is?
>>
guys but so is there no hope for the card then?

there IS software that can help, supposedly
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/storage/how-recover-files-from-dead-sd-card-image-3481659/

thoughts?

I don't even care as much about the phone, it's my data I need

>>51395675
yea what is a memory leak?
>>
>>51395708
Lmao well from what I looked up, its when ur sd card eats all the files on it.
>>
>>51395308
Awww :(

Maybe try something like http://www.r-tt.com/Articles/External_Disk_Recovery/
>>
>>51395743
Have you tried using photorec or recuva?
>>
>>51395743
It's been literally fried. No software is going to save a card in that state, there isn't any data on it to recover.
>>
>>51395536
I'm telling you, I'm an engineer, just write it on the console
>eject
>chkdsk F: /f
>>
>>51395781
The filesystem is definitely damaged, but the data itself may be partly recoverable. Not likely, but I guess it's worth a shot.
>>
>>51395208
Try ask NSA. They must have a backup of your files.
>>
>>51395381
>I ran it under water some more first
>but it stopped turning on so I fucking plugged it in to charge
madman
>>
>>51395763
thank you- the article says "All these cases are best handled by qualified data recovery professionals only. They have special equipment, software, and, most important, the required skills to work with such drives. Neither R-Studio, nor other data recovery software will help you in such cases. Moreover, any further tampering with such a drive will surely inflict more damage to your data. Quite often, such damage will render the data completely irrecoverable."

Sooo I guess I'll take it to some shop or something, now too scared to try anything myself

>>51395770
nu
I decided not to try anything after reading the article posted by the anon above you

>>51395781
.-.

>>51395795
too wary of you to do such a thing anon

>>51395801
yea

>>51395827
This is a decent idea actually

Okay /g/, thank you for your help- I've decided to take it to a specialist at some point, and let them give it a shot.

If that doesn't work, well ...I have already made my peace with this tragedy now.

RIP months of memories and graduation memories and screenshots of conversations with people I will never converse with again. RIP most of 2015, my birthday memories, my meme folder, just everything...

RIP my carelessness, too.

Cheers and goodnight ^^

You remind me of my sister. She also stores important pictures in her phone and only the phone. I've said it many times that it won't be enough and they need backups.

Stop doing that right now and spread the word while you're at it. I can't stand it.
>>
>>51395997
>tfw you've just started backing up other people's data

I feel like the NSA.
>>
>>51395208
its not fried just pc can't figure out what format is being used (the phone uses its own format). get a utility from the phone manufacture to decode the data and read the files.
>>
>>51396028
This guy has a point, windows isn't very good with different file formats, could be that if you tried to open the card in linux (use a live CD), it will be all there.
>>
>>51395208
Use easus data recover y

Stop posting.
>>
>>51395430
it happened to me. pants had slippery pockets, and phone dropped in my piss. i ninja reacted and got it out half a second later, turned it off, and fucking sucked the fluids out of it. Then i realized what i did.
>>
>>51396168
Also since i never cleaned it all the openings where stuffed with dust collected, so i only regret saving the microusb board.
>>
>>51396112
Wat?

From wikipedia:

Windows:
FAT
NTFS
exFAT
Live file system
ReFS

And listing off some filesystems I seem to remember ubuntu supporting:

ext2, ext3, ext4, xfs, jfs, reiserfs, NTFS, FAT, BTRFS, ZFS(?)
>>
>>51396069
>>51396112
>>51396306
Oh, I see, I accidentally wrote 'formats' not 'systems', I can see how that'd look dumb...
>>
>>51395919
You remind me of my ex gf.
She sometimes visits /g/, by my own fault.

It's been more than a year.

Fuck you, and best of luck getting you data back.
