>Does anyone have any experience with Tisells? Issues with the movement? How's their lume?
Tisell Flieger anon here.

I've had mine for about a week or so - pretty happy with it so far.
Finishing is good, band is good (not great, but it's not bad by any measure) and customer service is pretty good (they do custom orders for no extra charge).

>How's the movement.
My Flieger has a ST25, they also offer Fliegers with the Miyota 9015/90S5 and 8215.
Seagull movements are decent quality - it hacks, hand winds and has been accurate to about +10s a day on wrist (better than my OM EII).
You will only have issues with Seagull movements if they're fucked up ST19s (Seagull keeps all the good Chronos for themselves and sell the fucked up ones), or if the watchmaker was working in a dirty environment (contaminants in the movement).

Tisell has a reputation for good reliability of WUS at least, so I'd say they're casing the movements in a fairly clean environment.

>How's the Lume.
Mine's not bad at all with a bit of exposure to sunlight - it's not exactly Seiko Monster tier, but easily comparable to/maybe better than my OM and my Orients.

About mid 2015 a few Fliegers shipped without lumed dials (mainly type B IIRC) but in those cases Tisell reportedly replaced the watch or refunded the buyer and paid for return shipping.
Going through the WUS thread, it looks like the latest post about a non-lumed Flieger was early August, so I'd say their QC for lume has improved.

Overall, I think right now is the Goldilocks zone for the brand - they've figured out QC and customer service, but they're not in demand enough to drive up their price.

Please anon, Miyota/Citizen is Honda and Seiko is Toyota. And I'd give the SARB more credit than that and it costs quite a bit more than the entry level Seiko 5s, it's more like an Avalon or something. Near the top of the Toyota US lineup but not a Lexus.

I want to buy this Skagen Watch but I have 2 problems:

1. I am not very sure if I want it
2. There is no stock of it

Could you recommend me a similar watch like thisone?

Model: Skagen SKW6150

I don't want to spend more than 150? on it ofc. I don't care if the movement it's quart or not. My fathers are going to buy me a Seiko Cocktail Time for my college graduation (less than 15 months)

Great, thanks. Kept seeing your pic related popping up and thought it looked nice with a sterile dial and the price was fair for what it offered.

Also, is that the 40 or the 43?

>the SARB more credit than that
It really isn't very interesting though. More like an incredibly sensible choice if it is in your budget. Calling it a higher end Seiko 5 isn't far off, it hardly offers more design- or history-wise, its just better made and does more stuff.

Tisell also has a Bauhaus design as well, a bit smaller (38mm) and it has a Miyota 9015 movement instead of the Seagull.

It was pretty much the cheapest Flieger I could find with a sterile dial and a nice case, without risking QC issues.

>Also, is that the 40 or the 43?
43mm - it's the ST-25.

The Miyota is 40mm (I think).

I'm also pretty sure they have a slightly larger handwinding Flieger.

Can not for the life of me find my fucking DSLR battery charger, so enjoy a shitty smartphone picture.

I charged it under a fluorescent light (I think 35w) for about a minute, then I let it dissipate for about 5 minutes; it's more luminescent than it looks in the picture (I'd say between 10-15% brighter), but you get the idea.
It takes a charge and holds it fairly well.

Anyone have any experiences with fitness watches? I'm after one that measures heart rate ( without chest band if possible), measures distance etc.
Basically I want a watch to wear as a daily fitness device that measures all activities. I have checked out a few Polar watches but they all seem to need the chest band to measure heart rate? Any other brands I should check out? It will need to be fairly durable due to my job and my fitness activities.

I'll help, since I actually own a Garmin FR15 with HRM that I wear when I run. What you want doesn't really exist, most smart watches have a heart rate feature but they're all crap, totally useless. The heart rate monitor chest strap that I wear isn't massively great either, the readings can be wildly inaccurate though they're OK for having a general idea of when I go out the aerobic zone when running.

Look at http://www.dcrainmaker.com/blog his reviews are excellent and very thorough.

To be honest though, you might want to look into getting something like a Xiaomi Mi band which is a very cheap fitness tracker which should give you an idea of whether you'd find a more expensive tracker useful.

There are many reasons people like Seiko.

Seiko offers extremely high end specialty pieces for hundreds of thousands of dollars that you can lust over, but also makes some more affordable pieces. Imagine if Lamborghini made an economy car some people might want it just to be "closer," in some sense, to the amazing stuff they do by owning one of their more affordable units.

Models like the SKX are original and interesting while being very affordable (under 200USD.) Most other companies can only muster a shitty rolex copy for the similar price, rather than making something meaningful like Seiko.

And of course, if you're willing to spend the cash, you can get some of the high end ones, and they're just very good overall.

Also, it's a watchmaker with a significant history, so there's quite a rich selection of vintage Seikos available. And to some extent the vintage pieces generate interest in the current offers, and vice-versa.
>>
>>51397385

Seems fair, any tips for the gold watch
>>
>>51397459
Also, Seiko invented the quartz movement, as well as the Spring Drive. They also became so good at making movements, that the Swiss stopped having chronometer competitions so they didnt lose to Seiko.
>>
>>51397504
There have been competitions recently by the way. And while some watchmakers have been showing impressive results, the fact that Seiko can't compete makes it illegitimate in my view.
>>
>>51397532

A number of spring drives do. Including the historical collection pieces and the 55th anniversary spring drive chronograph.

I don't think any of the hi-beats do. The fully mechanical line is more traditional, both in terms of movement and materials.

Be careful if it's gold plate, probably best to just leave that alone or you'll strip off the plating. If it's gold cap you can probably go at it gently with a cape cod cloth or something but be careful and don't overdo it, solid gold you can do the same thing. I'm pretty wary of any sort of polishing though because you'll soften all the lines on the watch and it'll look bad. I'd rather a scratched watch over an over-polished one 9 times out of 10 and you'll ruin the value of it, if you care about that.

Also for identification, look at the back of the watch.

If it all looks gold including the caseback then it's probably solid, unscrew the caseback and on the inside of it there should by law be a hallmark stamped which will tell you it's solid gold and the gold purity and where it was made.

If the case and lugs look gold but the caseback is steel (sometimes gold, but rarely) then it's probably plated. There shouldn't be a hallmark in that case.

If the back of the lugs look steel but you can see a relatively thick layer of gold on top of that on the sides of the lugs then it's gold cap. The caseback will probably be plain steel as well and the inside may or may not have a hallmark. Pic related is gold cap and a solid gold medallion on the caseback.

anyone know anything about Lord Timepieces? Their watches are pretty cheap and photograph pretty well. I'm only really interested because they're so unusual looking but from the look of it it's cheap chinese knockoff shit, and all their reviews seem to be fake

>Based in London, Lord Timepieces offers you unique, luxurious timepieces from talented watch makers across the globe. Our goal is make it easy for you to wear aesthetically stunning timepieces for a fraction of the price!

>"Mushroom brands" (also referred to as "myth brands"), so called because they pop-up overnight and often disappear just as quickly, are watch companies which are completely outsourced to a high-volume Chinese manufacturer e.g. MillionSmart Enterprises and then sold exclusively over the internet. Myth brands often feature European sounding names and claims of European origin, elaborate tales about the brand's namesake, and sky-high listed MSRP's - but are then always "On Sale!" for about $100.

Also by the way there's absolutely nothing unusual about cheap rough-looking skeletonized watches or weird multi-dial abominations like pic related. That shit is completely standard diamond dozen chink shit, and if for some reason you still really want one then it's better to just cut out the middleman and buy one from aliexpress instead for a fraction of the price and with none of the pretense of it actually being any good.

Allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go.

Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

Speaking on Chronos, how are Alpina watches?
I was browsing this store for some Omegas and was offered pic related 2nd hand for 6000 shekels (actually shekels, since I live in this shithole)
As for retail price here, my guess would be around 30K which is about 7500usd.

Watches prices here are fucking ridiculous, they are selling the speedmaster 3570.50 which is sold for 3500usd for 40k shekels, which is around 10Kusd I wouldn't believe it unless I've seen it with my own eyes.

Look, i know how easily offended you sinn fangirls are, but how can you not recognize how bad the proportions on those chronos are? And that red hand is just...ew.

However, i found a sinn watch that pretty much amazed me. Those hands are amazing and pretty rare, in this combination. Seen that second hand only on the fifty fathoms.
The font, the space between numbers, not too crowded and not too far apart. These are the things, the sinn chronos are missing.

It seems hard to me to justify spending more money for something that's worse at the fundamental task of a watch: keeping time. What's the counterargument, /g/?

Nothing, it's a fucking scam. All that seiko did, was to slap some polished bracelet and a better looking dial on it. That's not worth double the fucking price. It looks better than the 033 tho.
Also the cocktail time looks way nicer than both of these watches.
>>
>>51405696

What's the accuracy like on that and have you regulated it (or had to)?
>>
>>51405576
Diashield coating on the case and bracelet, it's like a transparent DLC coating that resists scratches. It's also more nicely finished with a fancier dial and stuff, plus it comes with uglier AUTOMATIC text on the dial. Plus if you just like how it looks and that's the watch you want then you better cough up twice as much and that's that, Seiko ain't gotta explain shit.

>>51405614
Big flashy gaudy shit for guidos, outrageous prices for ETA movements in the past and now I guess outrageous prices for movements they claim to be in-house. A while ago they also made people very angry because they released a special edition watch which was supposed to have a really nice movement but when people popped off the caseback they found what looked pretty much like a rough dirty poorly finished HMT movement.

>>51405672
The counterargument is that mechanical watches tend to be much nicer than quartz watches except for very few exceptions and most people find a complicated looking mechanical movement with a balance wheel beating back and forth more interesting than a sterile looking quartz movement. Also mechanical watches are easily accurate enough for practical purposes.
>>
>>51405672
they're more interesting/enjoyable to the watch nerd

think of it like similar to people who like old cars or something
>>
>>51405712
Pure sex dial but no bracelet, no buy. A good bracelet is like at least the third of a watch, it just puts watchmakers to the test, can we really make a complete piece? Leather is 99% of the time half assed anyway

>What's the counterargument, /g/?

Why should there be an argument?
Some models look really good and are not availiable in quartz.
Some poeple like the mechanics, some like to show it off as a status symbol.

>>
>>51405741
Bracelets are cool and all but leather is too and a bracelet isn't really appropriate for every single watch.
>>
>>51405765

I've heard quality can vary wildly on those, but that sounds good. How is the bracelet, is it solid link or soup can-tier?

There is a SARB bracelet.
>>
>>51405814
There are cheaper mechanics, but for me this is not the most important part.
For me it's wether a watch looks good or not, it must be pleasant to look at.
>>
>>51405798
Solid, pretty rough screws. End links dont fit well. Doesnt rattle, 7/10 quality wise, rolex is 10.
Also the magnifying glass is almost completely off which is retarded and small imperfections on the dial. But damn it looks expensive as fuck.
>>
What's the minimum I would pay for a good Rolex replica with original Swiss movement?
>>
>>51405888
Dont get one. The real is pretty cheap anyway. Buy a homage and enjoy the great quality! Worry free! Steinhart is good, but tisell would be the new fad since they offer a insane amount of value for money, best I have seen to date.
>>
>>51405888
>Swiss movement

Good job, getting memed.
Well, i've seen some for 700-1000€
If you buy a replica for that money, you are just completly retarded.
Either get a jap movement or gamble and see how long the chink movement will last.
>>
>>51405888
What this >>51405918 negro said. Don't buy fakes, buy homages or ones that are in the same style.
>>
>>51405888
>fake Rolex
>real Swiss movement
Anon are you retarded or something? It's a fake watch how is paying extra to have them install what they claim is an ETA movement going to make it any better? Just get one with whatever bullshit fake ETA they all use, it's going to be dirty from being assembled in a sweatshop anyway and nobody is ever going to service it for you even if it's a 100% authentic ETA movement so your watch is going to be a worthless brick in a few weeks/months/years no matter what. Better yet, buy a Steinhart or a Squale or an Invicta or a Tissel or a Parnis or one of the other gorillion sub homages of varying price levels and quality.

He didn't say Sub, but yeah, there's Casio too, and even the Seiko Sea Urchin and Orient Ray can be called a Sub-style divers.

I just realized the sea urchin is the only Seiko 5 I can think of with a 3 oclock crown. That's weird considering one of the 5 points is that it's supposed to have a 4 oclock crown.

Also the Ray only vaguely looks like a sub in the same way that most divers sort of vaguely look like a sub. I assume if he wants a fake then he would rather a homage which looks just like a sub.

How does a Tisell's Miyota movement compare to Seiko 6R15?

Have to admit that this shit is sexy as fuck.

A lot do, but it's mostly because of the typical dial with the bar and dot indices. But some designs seem more than just a coincidence.
>>
>>51406337
Well a Tissel's Miyota movement is not a Tissel movement, it's a Miyota. If it's a 8xxx movement then it's kind of meh and nothing great, probably more on par with a Seiko 4R than a 6R.

If it's a 9015 or something like that then I would say it's pretty much a toss-up between the 9015, 6R15, and ETA 2824 and each has its advantages and disadvantages. A 9015 would have a higher beatrate than a 6R15 but would have a normal power reserve compared to the 6R15's sort of long power reserve, they should be pretty much in the same ballpark of accuracy, and as far as I know the 9015 is pretty solid and reliable. Also be aware that Miyota movements have rotors that only wind in one direction which doesn't really make a difference except that sometimes the rotor will spin the wrong way and make a little weird whooshing noise.

>a bracelet isn't really appropriate for every single watch

This. I still don't get people who put things like the SARB017 on an oyster bracelet, because it looks way better with a nice leather strap. Suits the look of the watch.

>>51405848
The cocktail time would probably look decent with an oyster.

Well yeah I'm not holding it against them that a whole family of watches made for the same purpose comes out looking mostly pretty similar, but yes there are a whole lot of watches that consciously draw inspiration or rip off of the sub because it's the most recognizable diver by far.

Mioyta
>Higher beat rate (28,800 BPH) - smoother movement of hands.

Seiko
>Longer power reserve (50 hrs vs 42 hrs).

Both handwind and hack.

It's a 9015 movement.
>>
>>51406404
You forgot to mention that you can slowly destroy a 2824 by using the hand-winding funcrion, while the 9015 and the 6R15 will happily hand-wind all day erry day for decades. In fact, Seiko's instruction manual actually recommends that you wind the watch by hand if you're not wearing it enough to keep up the power reserve.
