Extra taxes/fees, lots of small customer bases (who want different layouts) divided up into countries to make distribution harder.
Oh, and the demand is usually pretty low even when there is a product available. Sure, some of us are very enthusiastic but it's just not enough...

I've actually considered getting an ANSI board just so I can get nicer keycaps. It's just hard to find any that won't end up costing me twice as much because of taxes and fees alone.

I went with an mk85 that was on temporary sale. It's got pretty advanced macro features that I've so far only used for chaining VGS messages in Tribes: Ascend, so I probably should have gone with the cheaper model anyway. I like the overall quality of the board though, and the backlighting is A++ at the lowest setting where only the letters glow and very faintly.

Is there a place where I can get custom printed keycaps for cheap (like 10 cents a piece)?

I have a bunch of keybindings that make shilling easier, so I want to get a bunch of caps with logos on them so that I can remember what key provides what phrase. Like for example, I need a Nvidia keycap, so that I can remember that the Insert key actually causes "Nvidia: The way it's meant to be played™" to be typed into the reply box. I don't want to accidentally hit the AMD key located next to it.

They also need to come in different colors, because I want the "thread derailment" key to be a bright red with a freight train on it, mainly because I don't want to pointlessly spam POORFAGS BTFO in threads by hitting the wrong key.

Thank THE UNFAIR ADVANTAGE™

The most common defect is LEDs dying too soon. Obviously it doesn't happen all the time, but there are enough reports across different brands that a person should be aware.
>>
>>51391078
You should certainly be aware of the fact that LEDs may die prematurely and that they will certainly not live forever, but you shouldn't speak of this as if all keyboards with backlight will have dead leds within a few months by default.

Well cherry and corsair worked together to create a housing that was see through and had embedded RGB LEDs in it.

Now that the 1 year exclusive period is over, the Ducky keyboard is being produced using the same see-through cherry MX housing and same LEDs.

As for the Razer, its basically a chinese clone of the K70 with a different shell.

The only reason they didnt have an RGB keyboard out before now was because Cherry wouldnt let them have the clear housing because Corsair had exclusivity for one year.

Also the main LED complaints about the Corsair boards come from the Red LEDs NOT from the RGB LEDs

I have had my K70 RGB for 5 months without a single dead LED.

>As for the Razer, its basically a chinese clone of the K70 with a different shell.

Kailh RGB came before cherry ones. In fact cherry adopted this SMD led translucent housing bullshit because kailh patented the 5mm RGB led housing. Which is obviusly the best, most simple, and most cost effective method of making a RGB switch.

Putting SMD leds on keyboards is just insane. Its expensive (shine 5 even had to use 2 different PCBs for this shit), its not bright enough, and if one of your leds burn, you are fucked. You will never be able to replace it without special tooling.

The funny thing is, it is WAY cheaper to 3D print one.

Like a dollar or two. They can be more detailed too depending on the plastic used.

What you should do is make posts all over the web with 3D model files for the most popular keycaps. Don't even have to try to flood the market.

Yes, but then it would be possible to distinguish the original one from tre 3d printed. K3kc already does click clack copies, but he puts his own branding on the back.

I remember when some of the original Cherry red escape keys sold for over $200 each. Then they started popping up on some sites for around $4 because they found the manufacturer and just asked them to make some more.

People were panicking and desperately trying to justify the price of the tiny piece of red plastic they had.

Some wanted to stop the sale of the new ones or tried to buy as many as they could in hopes of them becoming rare again. Then they looked for differences between the old and new versions so that they could call the new ones "fake". They were made with the same plastic in the same machines by the same company.

I think about this every time I see artisan caps and the manchildren who obsess over them. At least the escape keys have an actual use, are of very good quality and were rare because of non-artificial reasons.

my keycool arrived today and worked fine for like 5 minutes. then it stopped working at all.
when plugged it's recognized by system, windows installs drivers normally, but only things that work are leds - caps lock/scroll lock (when pressed on another keyboard only, when pressed on new one nothing happens). also fn+f12, which is supposed to lock windows key lights up when i press it.
other than that there's no sign of it being alive.
am i doing something wrong with it or should i just dispute it?

I want a cheap mechanical keyboard with brown switches in it. Which should I buy?

I feel no need for backlighting or anything related to gaming. Only a normal full sized keyboard.

I was thinking about going with a ducky, but they are really expensive. Also, I'm on Europe.

Looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard and I like the size of the Key Hero 84 and the KBT Race II.

Can't seem to find either of them available in the UK but there is a drop on the 84 right now and it comes to about £85 with Cherry MX Blues.

Worth an investment or should I try and find the Race II somewhere?

Is the Massdrop for the Cherry MX Rubber O-Rings worth buying? I get it for $4.99 + $1.69 shipping for 120 O-Rings, MSRP $18. Also, is there any difference between the clear and black version of the O-Rings?
>>
>>51412991
Key Hero 84 won't work in BIOS or GRUB, since it relies on drivers to make its NKRO work. KBT Race II has a nonstandard layout that will prevent you from buying aftermarket keycaps. You will care about this later, I promise.
>>
>>51413929
No. Come on. Look on eBay for o-rings. Don't buy them though.
>>
>>51413974
Why shouldn't I buy them? I pretty much bottom out my keys all the time on my MX Reds.
>>
>>51413929
Buy from somewhere else if you can find them cheaper. But otherwise I can vouch that the massdrop ones do work as advertised. And there shouldn't be any difference between the clear and black versions, though you might want to get the clear ones if your keyboard is backlit.
>>
>>51414076
I'm not really sure where I could get good quality ones for a low price. Anyone got an recs?

70A seems a bit too hard. Also, that's a pack of 100, while a fullsize keyboard has 104 keys, so keep that in mind.

>>51414748

I have an 87 key (QFR) so if I ever get a full size I wouldn't really mind buying another pack. The 50A version of these is $9.17 compared to the 70A version $2.08 with 25 more O-Rings. Would the hardness even make a noticeable difference in the long run?

I personally don't like the home, page up and page down keys sitting that closely to the enter and backspace key. Accidentally hitting those keys would be a nightmare. For a more compact keyboard, my favorite is the noppoo nano layout. I do prefer the dedicated F key row but it isn't necessary.
>>
>>51414960
Not sure if you would notice the hardness, but ultimately it's up to preference. The 50A version used to be cheap, but I guess it got popular so they increased the price.

Anyone who went from blues to greens? The increase in stiffness seems quite large compared to the increase from brown>clears.

The only keyboards that have greens or clears as regular options are usually Pok3rs and Code keyboards

Decent they are, but pricey as well

Yeah, I have both of them in consideration.
Problem with the Code is the price and ANSI-only. The Pok3r seems like a good deal and can also be had in ISO, but not sure if I want to switch to 60%, I really just want to try greens. Currently have a Filco Ninja TKL with blues, too bad they don't make them with greens.
