The article is not completely off the mark though. The business culture described is exactly what people can hate about job in programming. Most of my friends don't have the confidence/experience to do that, but they always think it when they review code, that some people should just be secretaries rather than developers. And they don't say it, because they don't want to get hated by the people they review the code of, since they need to work together in the company. I'd definitely hate a place where an older guy can just come and bitch around because things aren't done his way.
That said, I think the article forgets something really important which it states in the beginning. Linus Torvalds is not a boss. He set the tone at a time where business culture was still pretty aggressive, and the tone stuck around. More than blaming him, you should blame the cultural environment of twenty years ago. And honestly, I don't think the development practices should change as long as they're effective.
