No, just the cheapest single-sided board they could make in China. Look, it has a white silkscreen, which you almost certainly wouldn't see on a homemade board.
>>51372935
You can get sextants on Ebay for like $30.
>>51372987
Yeah but my main point was that most people don't just own a sextant, there's usually a weird/interesting story behind owning one

>>51373604
do you know what a pager does?
>>51373613
Only from what I've seen in the movies, they are a bit before my time.
>>51373626
from what i understand (i'm only 25 myself, so also haven't actually used one), they are only capable of receiving numbers
the idea is that someone can send a phone number to your pager, and then you call that person back using the number sent to you
basically, it's a way to know if someone wants to contact you without being an actual phone
needless to say they've been completely obsoleted by actual mobile phones
>>51373668
Ours get room and floor numbers. It's more like a way to receive a single text message.
>>51373693
i was actually just thinking that one could send a basic message via numbers like that
one thing i'm not clear on is how one sends a message to a pager, i'm assuming at least historically one would call the phone company to do so, but perhaps a hospital installation has a more in-house solution? (perhaps via sms/email/custom software?)
It's a little product scanner on a big product scanner.

I used to work dispatch for Mercedes Benz USA roadside assistance, and that's how we did it. We had software that would basically send a single 150 character message to the pager of a roadside technician. You could also call the phone number associated with the pager and send a phone number, or use the alphanumeric system to type a short message, but that was only as a backup in case our system went down.

Chess boards are technology. In the early part of the 20th century a nice chess board was like owning a PlayStation 4 today.
The 2nd largest board in this photo is my oldest chess board. It was made in France some time between 1920 and 1950. The inside is a Backgammon board. My board is a downgrade from previous models of the same design which had holes along the inside for playing the game of Tric-Trac, which is now forgotten. I keep my big boards under my bed, so they are within arm's reach right now.
