NVIDIA SHILLING GENERAL*

Fixed that for you op.

Mad amd poorfag detected
>>
>>51354054
Unfortunately true. Nvidia brought a new generation, AMD brought only rebrands and the Fury. So we have the same old cards sold for 120 € more and people still tell Nvidia is jewing.

3.5 is shit, 960 also, but AMD doesn't do anything better. I would look into Furys if they had 8 GB, but not 4, 6-8 is perfect for my resolution.

Currently sitting on a Titan X and waiting for Pascal.
>>
>>51354079
Yeah that great, exclusive feature to nvidia that is just another bullet point under their large repertoire?
>>
>>51354145
He doesn't want the truth.
380(X) = 280X with reduced memory bus (WTF??!!!)
390(X) = 290(X) OC Tri-X 8 GB

Pro tip: Get the old 8GB Tri-X as long as you can. Otherwise go Nvidia.
>>
>official Linux support

This is where I stopped reading
>>
>>51354213
That's how AMD is though. They release 2 new cards and a bunch of rebrands priced more competitively. They can't afford the r&d budget that nvidia has.

It's unfortunate, but that's just how it is at the moment. Things might change soon though, they've certainly improved massively on their drivers.

Also their cards might be rebrands, but they are certainly priced very competitively. I've seen 4gb r9 380s go for $175, for example.
And the 380x isn't a rebrand.
>>
>>51354276
And you're saying that Nvidia don't do this?
>>
>>51354303
Never said that.
Gtx 670 was rebranded as 760.
Gtx 680 was rebranded as 770.
Gt 640 was rebranded as 730.
Gt 520 was rebranded as 610.

Both sides do it, but AMD uses an architecture much longer than nvidia.
During the lifetime of GCN, we've had keppler and Maxwell, and we're going to have Pascal too.

Personally I lean towards AMD when buying my gpu but that's mainly because they tend to perform better or the same for less money.
Hd 7970 vs gtx 680
R9 290x vs gtx 780
R9 390 vs 970
>>
Why do people buy AMD when they always perform worse and are nothing but problems when it comes to gaming which is what they are meant for? they look nice in paper they have amazing specs but they perform like crap in gaming.

Buying what work best is best for the consumer buying AMD makes no sense, if you really believe AMD will ever catch up to Nvidia you are delusional, the best thing that could happen is AMD going under and someone else buying the Radeon division probably Realtek.

If you own a Nvidia card you would know that they are bottlenecked by the memory width and the only reason why Nvidia does this is because there is no reason to improve over this because even when AMD plays catch up Nvidia can sill be laid back about it.
>>
At this point, if you are buying and shilling for nvidia, you are supporting a monopoly in the graphics card business. Nvidia already fuck over their own customers with gameworks and shit, how do you think it will be if amd becomes anymore irrelevant?

So then why buy Nvidia?

I got a 670 instead of a 7950 and I now regret it so much. Nvidia is crippling my gpu with tessellation for placebo effects, and the 7950 has an extra gb of vram than my 670.

Coming from a hd 5870 to a gtx 670, I regret trying nvidia. My next upgrade will be r9 400 series.

Fuck nvidia.

People on the beyond3d forums talked about this and turns out the news about tessellation used in the whole word were exaggerated as fuck, they actually did some in deep investigation about this problem and they came to the conclusion despite the water being tessellated it don't gets rendered if the plane isn't been seen by the player so it really didn't impacted performance that hard.

>>
>>51354747
DX12 and Vulkan are based on Mantle which is designed with AMD architecture in mind and if trying to run it on a Nvidia card would be a disaster, this is the same reason why Nvidia didn't adopted Mantle, because AMD won't allow them to modify it despite offering it to them so it would actually run worse than DX11 if they adopted it.

Pretty much this. Gamework features relies heavily on shaders/tessellation so there's no perceptible performance hit on Nvidia cards.

AMD suffering just happens to be a byproduct of poor tessellation because architectural differences of GCN. AMD is trying to fight back with their own proprietary features that uses raw gpu power but they're all resource hogs and reduce the fps dramatically.

God Rays have to be disabled in the ini and the ini set to read only afterwards or the game will automatically set them back to low which will hurt your frames. Definitely wan to turn off vsync. Cards running at stock speed. Son, essentially everything you can buy right now is OCed. Especially the Nvidia stuff as Temps tend to be lower so manufacturers usually are able to add 10-15% performance while AMDs offerings are closer to the reference as most manufacturers (except Sapphire and a few Powercolor) are unable to handle Hawaii/Grenada in maximum BBQ mode. The reason for this might be that morons like ASUS just slap coolers designed for Nvidia on AMD chips and expect it to work.

there aren't any 390 or 390x reference models, all of the ones you can buy right now come with aftermarket coolers and factory OC (over the rebrandeon oc)

oc vs oc, nvidia wins very easily.

EVGA eg. does this. They sell returns and refurbished cards with 1y warranty without or less accessories. In EU you can buy a non-stock 980 now for 420 EUR. The same model has a regular price around 530ish. But honestly I dont think it's worth it. So many (especially high-end) GPUs have died for me without any apparent reason after 1-2y...

I wish I had the patience to wait, my 6870 would have been sufficient for another year on lowered settings at 1080 it is on par with current generation consoles.

I'll wait to see what becomes of AMD with DX12, vulkan, and VR before upgrading my 980, not the best decision I've made for the money.

Even then I am waiting until 32~42" 4K displays are cheaper and 4K 60fps on a single card becomes a thing.

For the time being I'll just have to bide my time with VR@2160x1200 and triple monitor 1080. I hope to squeeze in 3 years.

AMD is fucking garbage. Everything they make is absolutely, objectively crappy as shit and only a fat neckbeard would buy this shit-tier crappy shit because he's afraid of running out of autismbux (because God forbid he spend less money on Taco Bell and Mountain Dew.) I tried building an AMD gaming rig once and it was the worst experience of my life. First off, that CPU clip is fucking impossible to use. It looks just like an old Pentium CPU clip, but it's autistically retarded and I couldn't deal with it. And the graphics card was so fucking huge, I had to cut a hole all the way around my case to fit it in. Fucking AMD.

But wait, that's not even the best part! When I tried to start up my shitty autismbox (which I sold to the Association of Retarded Citizens BTW) the absolutely massive power draw dimmed every light in my house and throughout the entire neighborhood like I was firing up fucking ENIAC in the 1920s or some bullshit. I had plenty of time to worry about my power bill too, because this shitty thing couldn't figure out which of its 32 CPU cores to use and it took half a day to boot. As soon as I tried to play a game (fucking Starcraft from 1998), it lagged so hard it went backwards. I thought I should try downloading a driver, but there aren't any. There are no fucking drivers. What the shit, AMD? No wonder Apple doesn't use your shit. It wasn't long after that that I realized this thing was putting out more heat than a goddamn jet engine and it burned my house down.

Two weeks later, when I sold that piece of shit, I built an Intel/Nvidia rig! Holy shit, it's like jacking into the Matrix! I built it 5 years ago and it still runs every game in 4K at 240 FPS while using no power and it actually cools my house during the summer. What a beautiful machine, I seriously hope none of you are poor and stupid enough to buy AMD.

I literally never hear my 290X VaporX either, that's a terrible metric to use.

970 is a bad choice due to 3.5GB, bad ports will continue, like it or not and Arkham Knight uses 4.3GB at 1200P...

Even a 980 is a bad choice for the future.

For anyone else reading this, if you don't want to buy into AMD - that's fine, either get a cheaper 960 4GB and replace it next year or buy a 980Ti and keep it for a longer time.

Both Pascal and Arctic Islands are coming, 2016 is gonna be a BIG year for everyone.

>game renders hidden objects that can't be found and removed until the editor is released at an unspecified time next fucking year
>constant fog is rendered everywhere, even in buildings, and it causes a massive performance hit
>very likely that there is a global ocean under the ground everywhere that is X64 tessellated unless you manually force it lower in your GPU control panel
>this ocean is rendered 100% of the which just wastes GPU processing cycles like in Crysis, another Nvidia sponsored game
>the game engine itself is laughably poorly threaded
>compiled so poorly that even a 4.5ghz Ivy Bridge i7 is performing worse than 3.5ghz Haswell i5
>literally no explanation for this as the architectural differences don't add up to a performance gap this large even in synthetics
>>
>>51373901

there is no reference model of the 390 or 390x, retard. they're just rebadged 290s with factory overclocks. even then, the 970 still beats your factory OCed trash for half the price.

>>
>>51376493
lod is still almost exclusively mip-map based in real world games. Sure you can find a GPU stress tester that tessellates things like roofing tiles and cobble stone streets : but the reality is that for almost any title, you can create very convincing LOD textures with mipmaps and some parallax mapping and have no where near the performance hit tessellation provides.

OP is right tho. Have an AMD (7870) card and yes, the drivers suck, yes the whql driver is way too fucking old.

AMD LOVES TO FUCKING LEAVE PEOPLE IN THE DIRT.

One generation and boom, off you go, fuck you, buy our new card.
Meanwhile I can still install a pre-historic Nvidia card driver on a new Linux distro or Windows 10.

I mean yeah sure, let's say it costs 10-15% more. But you have a supported card for 5-10+ years.
