Well Black Friday is coming so I want to upgrade my video card to better support my 4K monitor. Is the water cooled Titan X still my best option or perhaps a 980ti?

What about next year? Will Nvidia be dropping anything worth waiting for come spring 2016?
>>
If you want to play vidya in 4K your best option with no alternatives is 980ti SLI, ~$1200
>>
>>51320198

So the extra memory on the titan isnt worth it?
>>
>>51320323
Hell no it is not worth it
>>
>>51320323
4x 390 has 8gb ddr5 for relatively similar price
>>
>>51320083
Nothing is worth it for 4k currently.

Wait for next gen flagships.

Right now Ultra @ 1440p is the sweet spot.

I don't know if I can wait another year man. I only buy my PC parts on black Friday to maximize my resources. I heard about the new stuff dropping next year but I don't know what quarter...

I'm hoping I can save about 200 dollars on a 980ti come black Friday. Do you guys think the savings are worth it?
>>
>>51321319
Black Friday blows for component deals. You fucked up.
>>
>>51321338

It's better than no deals at all.

Titan X owner here
>>51320323
For sure
>>51321037
>4x
>1200W housefire confirmed
also scaling is shit for anything more than dual gpu
>>51321133
Yes, 1080ti will be the best thing
DO NOT BUY Titans the VRMs are shit
Even if you have the money better go Classified or Kingpin cards they can satisfy all your OC needs

You can go 1600 OC with a X if you get a good chip which will give you almost 60% performance without mgpu driver problems
But still not satisfying for 4K, framedrops due to bad optimization, forget about almost every 2015 AAA game
I will keep my TX until GP200 release and buy the biggest custom card avaiable. 980TI SLI sounds good but the next generation will deliver that in one card
As I can wait until ME:Andromeda everything is fine
>>
>What about next year? Will Nvidia be dropping anything worth waiting for come spring 2016?
Pascal will probably be late Q2. Maybe Q3. But it's almost assuredly going to be fucked up. Nvidia is jumping headfirst into a lot of things, and something is bound to go wrong.
>>
>>51321358

I'm starting to think i should buy a 980ti at the lowest price i can, hold out for the next gen cards and then sell the 980ti. If i get a good enough deal i could probably break even next year. thanks for all the help so far guys

If you already have the 4K screen it would be the best option. TI OCd works better than 980s, also the 980s are mGPU and have only 4GB. Same for AMD, HBM is good, but 4GB is no option for a 4K gaming card for me.
>>
>>51320083
2 R9 390's will be the best bet.
The Fury X, and 980 ti to are just too weak to handle a solid gaymen experience at 4k.

>4k early adopters

I get it. 4k is going to become the standard at some point and the pleb masses are going to wait 5-10 years for hardware to fall in price to the point where you can buy 4k displays and 4k-bluray players for under $200 at Wal-Mart, but I think it's insane to buy into it right now even if I had the disposable income.
>>
One thing I don't understand about 4k:

What fucking size is my screen supposed to be?

Is 27" 4k going to be visibly better than 1440p 27"?

Do I need a fucking 40" screen? In that case that's not comfortable.
>>
Try a "retina" display macbook. You'll notice a difference.
>>
>>51322580
>Is 27" 4k going to be visibly better than 1440p 27"?
If you do lots of reading, coding or something like that and your OS / applications support DPI scaling, then fuck yes. The "standard" pixel density is just not enough to get crisp text without mutilating it in some way.

For gaming it's not such a big deal since any computer that can run games at 4k can probably max out and still supersample everything at 1440p. And even at 1440 you can easily see the lack of detail in textures and models in most games.
>>
>>51321037
So I try to keep my thoughts balanced and avoid any shilling, but 4x anything, especially AMD, is fucking idiotic.

Who were you trying to trick?
>>
>>51324566
So what's the point of 4k for gaming?
>>
>>51324637
bragging rights
>>
>>51324637
Well, I was reading that one cool point is that you actually can see stuff in the distance and not just a bunch of pixels.

Quad GTX 970 SLI
You can get 2 970s for the price of one 980ti.
>3.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 x 3.5
14gb VRAM if my math is correct
Im not even kidding I think this will be better.
>>
>>51327448
quad gtx960 is fine too. even cheaper
>>
>>51327499
Yea true, but honestly quad 970s will be beast, dual 970s can handle 4k
>>
>>51320323
4xR9 390 or 2x FuryX will do you better than any Nvidia setup, I have a 4K rig and can vouch for this, the extra memory makes all the difference.
>>
>>51327589
>Quad 390s
>Housefire
>20000w consumption
Hehehe ok fag
