I've been using pic related for a few days for note taking and writing in tiny 1x1cm grid paper in my lab notebook. However the ink isn't waterproof, which could potentially be problematic if my chemistry gets a little out of control. I have a sakura pigma micron 01 that I also like but I've read (but not experienced) that the nub wears down quickly.

So anything good that has like a .3mm tip or smaller? Waterproof preferred.

these threads are so stupid, but I love them. I wish they didn't die so fast

I suggest a) get graph paper with a smaller grid, 5mm is pretty good, and b) try using a mechanical pencil instead of a pen, you can get them down to 0.2mm and they're better than those shitty pens in your pic.

My bad, they are actually 5x5mm, not sure why I said cm. I can't write in pencil because since it's a lab notebook and actual data and whatnot it needs to be in pen.

Having used the pilot razor points in the past, I'd say the sharpie pen is a better alternative.

Ohto Graphic Liner 005 (0.3mm)
Copic Multiliner/Multiliner SP 003 (0.03mm)
Signo Bit 0.18mm/0.28mm
Pilot Hi Tec C/G Tec C 0.25mm/0.3mm
All of these are pretty good

What youre after is a luxor pilot hi-techpoint 05 pen.

I use thrm for writing and drawing and they are damn near perfect
No ballpoint, no felt tip, no wearing out, no worries.

Good price point.

why tho

How the hell do you write with that? Anything less than .9mm breaks too much.

no one cares what you write with, just the fact that you're writing down things on paper makes you stick out, unfortunately such are the times

I would sacrifice my firstborn for that Alexander the Great pen.

Maybe you've never used a Bic Cristal 1.6mm?
(Sometimes people call them "Bic Cristal Bold".

It's an amazingly smooth-writing pen.
Especially given the cost (10 pack for ~$3).

Don't press so hard then. I've been using the Pentel P207 for 3 years now and I hardly ever break it.

I would normally recommend a Lamy Safari with EF nib, but that's more like 0.4mm to 0.5mm (depending on the ink/paper). Japanese nibs are smaller, and I should have a Pilot Penmanship arriving soon (similar grip to the Lamy) but I haven't tried it yet so I don't know if it's good. It's cheap enough that you might want to buy one anyway. Recommended general purpose permanent ink is Noodler's Black.

I have, and other cheap pens with mixed results. If they're smooth, they're too bold; if they're fine, they're too scratchy; etc. I've never found a ballpoint that doesn't skip, though.

I'm not sure a fountain pen would be good for lab notebooks. If he's using the type I'm thinking of then it has carbon paper which you need to press down pretty hard on, fountain pens don't really require that much pressure and maybe he would fuck up the nib.

If you like fine tip pens go to Tokyo pen shop

notebooks, especially ones used by engineering firms need to be numbered, dated, and signed for it to be valid in court. And obviously everything's gotta be in pen.

I like the .5, I think they make a .3 though

Just like in Yurop, that's why I've ordered it from Japan. Even with shipping, possible tax and vat it still going to be cheaper

Auskekland here too. I wish I didn't get fucking ripped off every time I bought one of my autism inks.

That being said, what's a good super extra fine fountain pen?
