On-ear are usually not that comfortable over extended periods of time, while IEMs are subjectively better in this regard. More power you never use does nothing. Not even that much.

The Magni 2 added that sensitive headphone/IEM function with the gain toggle. Uber 2 adds preamp outputs to other devices you might have.

Nominate a headphone which:
- has better detail
- is more comfortable
- is in the same price range
- doesn't need an amp to sound great
- has better build quality
- is funnier
- is more balanced

Senn HD600 is better in all those categories except being "funnier."

Also if you don't have an amp, then you are PLEB tier.
>>
>>51315322
>senpaitachi
i didn't know anyone actually pluralized that
>>
>>51315339
It is also factually impossible for a headphone to be both balanced AND "fun."

They are two complete opposites to each other. I have both the HD600 and X2, and the X2 are distinctly U-curved and the spikes in the treble are almost as fatiguing as Grados.

HD600 are as close to balanced you can get in an open headphone. For a closed headphone, in the price range, there is nothing better than the Oppo PM3 as far as balance and neutrality.

they're literal midcannons how can anyone call them balanced when they have no bass or treble
>>
I wash here yesterday talking to some really helpful guys and decided on the Superlux HD688B
and Sony ECM-CS3 Microphone.

Now all I need is an Amp. Is this one good:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kilimanjaro-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier-E11K/dp/B00MFMW29I/ref=sr_1_11?s=receiver-speakers&ie=UTF8&qid=1447359868&sr=1-11&keywords=DAC

Head Fi says so but just want you to clarify.
>>
>>51315476
If you seriously believe that the X2 are balanced then you think the U curve is balanced.

X2 have TOO MUCH treble and bass, which is why they are NOT balanced and why the HD600 is balanced. That is exactly why the X2 are "fun" headphones but to call them balanced is embarrassing yourself, you goddamn stupid fuck.
>>
>>51315535
i'm not him nor did i say the x2 were balanced

the hd600 are not balanced and balanced does not mean neutral, although it really should

PC, also guitar amp. This one is a biggie because half of the time I'll be using these headphones will be in an amp. The rest listening to music on computer.

>preferred size
Full sized

>open or closed
Closed preferred, but if open is better for my kind of music and guitar playing then I can live with open

>comfort
Goes without saying as comfy as possible, but again if sound quality would be better then I'll accept less comfort (side note, if plugged into guitar amp then I will need a bit longer cord, unless you can also suggest a headphone extender or something to help)

>preferred music type
85% heavy metal (80s metal, alternative, metalcore, djent, grind core, very guitar oriented as I've stated above. Double bass drums might be only thing bassy)
10% rap (odd future, riffraff, shitty shit)
5% folk (Mumford and sons, etc)

>past headphones
This would be my first big headphone purchase. Previous ones- turtle beaches, random earbuds, nothing over $20. So basically nothing.
>>
>>51315555
I don't care what some normie thinks "balanced" means. It SHOULD mean neutral so I am using it in the rightful context. Anyone who praises a normie headphone like the X2 has no right to denigrate the legendary HD600.
>>
>>51315611
>normie
do you even know what that means? you can spout memes all you want in a futile attempt to fit in but it won't make hd600 any more balanced

balanced shouldn't mean neutral, neutral should mean balanced. hd600 are not balanced because they have recessed treble and bass
>>
>>51315633
The HD600's treble and bass is not ACCENTUATED like the X2 you unbelievable moron. The HD600 absolutely are both balanced and neutral, and the X2 is a trashy "fun" headphone with EXAGGERATED treble and bass. Can you really not comprehend this?
>>
>>51315659
>not accentuated = rolled off with signature sennheiser VEIL
enjoy your am radio
>>
>>51315666
Look at the frequency response curve of the X2 and compare it to the curve of the HD600 which is objectively closer to the neutral response that is perceived by the human ear.

If you want to look at the graphs, it's not hard, just use google. I am not going to do it for you because I think that your retardation cannot be cured so it would be a waste of effort.

>It is also factually impossible for a headphone to be both balanced AND "fun."
>They are two complete opposites to each other.
Innerfidelity on X2: "Improved acoustics and diaphragm take this headphone to another level, delivering terrific balance and neutrality while keeping the music exciting overall."

Try not to embarass yourselves next time, audiophiles wanneb

I just received my Philips SHP9500s not one hour ago and I already love them and I got them for 100 but I think they're 70 on amazon right now, I don't have much experience in headphones but after reading up on these I couldn't find a bad review and I don't think I could give them one myself at this point, although I've only had them for an hour. They sound great and neutral but they are OPEN. The bass is light but you can eq it up as I already have and it sounds great. I wrote this while listening to Currents and it sounds fantastic. For 70 bucks you can't go wrong, I don't doubt they'll get cheaper on black Friday either.

There's no clothes in this threads first image. Having an anime character wearing headphones was the normal image months ago. This was when there was at least two /hpg/ threads at the same given time and both of them were anime. God forbid if we had a 3DPD wearing headphones here would you like that? There's a lot of irl girls wearing headphones but I don't see it getting posted often. Maybe because 3DPD?

The challenge is finding a headphone that doesn't fall off while headbanging. It involves a lot of clamp, and a lot of head pressure. Nothing Audeze has made puts more pressure on my head than DT1350/HD 25. The weight on the neck doesn't mean anything.

Comfort gets worse if I don't sit straight, and I like leaning.

It's a sense of style that I worry about, a lot of people would buy them, because that's who they are marketed towards, but I'm going to see them and feel somewhat cringe because it doesn't have the same visual appeal than that from what we see in the sample photos.

So, according to Inner Fidelity, Stax SR-207 with 507 leather pads measure almost as good as 507 (and much better than 207 with stock pads), which is kind of interesting.

>All DT-880 variations are voiced to sound close to electrostatic headphones in terms of transient response and speed

>>
>>51324464
>All DT-880 variations are voiced to sound close to electrostatic headphones in terms of transient response and speed
That was their goal in 1980 though

But transient response on the DT880 to this day is still very good compared to current offerings
>>
>>51324486
To add to this they were basing it on the performance of their own estat which they started manufacturing in 1976 i think
>>
>The new DT 770 and DT 990 Premium Line headphones which feature a so-called "diffuse-field equalized" frequency response are suited for audiophiles.

Was DF v-shaped in the 80s or were the old 770/990 models actually DF equalized and they just made the newer revisions more v-shaped? I think I recall Ken Rockwell talking about how he preferred his old 990s to HD800s and them not being bright
>>
>>51324486
>transient response on the DT880
If you understand what transients are, you might realize it isn't that important, unless you are the type that likes their SACD collection with 40kHz response.

>>51324578
The theory proposed in the mid-80's goes something like a perfectly diffuse-field accurate headphone would sound perfectly flat. Based on the general subjective reception of various headphones, with varying DF accuracy, and multiple hearing studies, that seems about right.
>they just made the newer revisions more v-shaped
Beyer actually tried to make a few tightly diffuse field equalized headphones in the past. They no longer exist. DT880 from the 1980's was tuned with less treble, that much I know.
I recall the DT 880 Monitor EF was one of their more strict DF tuned models. DT 831 might have been tuned in this general direction as well.
