pcpartpicker thread, my dad is having me build him a system that will last for ~10 years to replace his current C2Duo machine. he is set on the CPU, 950, and amount of ram, but willing to change out other parts.
silence is also a huge preference for him.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DyBb3C
any suggestions? the GPU will most likely be swapped in 4-5 years so I think the 390 is a good bet.
pic related is my build.

I have that psu its pretty nice looking in person. long cables good finish on it shows less dust and the 140 mm is very quiet
>>
Why do you have a 950 with an 850? You have two small SSDs, that's retarded, get a 1TB black series hard drive and the 950 you've selected
>>
>>51312096
he wants all SSD, he has a 16TB NAS right next to his desktop, so he just wants around a half terabyte of SSD storage. the 950 512GB is $350 and realy thats only useful for OS and heavy programs, so it makes more sense to get the 256GB 950 for OS, and the 256-512GB 850 for games.

You dont need to buy thermal paste, a sound card or a network adapter. The sound and network are already in the motherboard and you get thermal paste included with the cpu.
also you can get a cheaper power supply, no reason to have 750w gold for a system thats going to require 361w

Assured destruction of your data on an ssd.
Yeah no thanks.Id rather get a platter that will last 20 years and not have a single smart error then a shitty ssd that will die out in 2-5(see guessing game) years with guess work.
What happes when you start filling the ssd?
Go past 80% and you're performance drops.
TL;DR
SSD for system.Platter(10k-15k) for constant read/write data

wrong nigger sound cards are VERY necessary.

Just don't be a dumbass a buy a card that's inferior to the onboard. Do research. Some mobos actually have create sound, others shit.
>>
>>51325101
How long is that ssd going to last?
Give me an extreme measure.
>>
>>51325130
No idea, desu, but it's probably going to last longer than I will use it.
I have a 240GB SSD that I just use for gameplay recordings. And I record nearly 2 GB of footage each day with additional deletion of obsolete files. It's been in use for almost 2 years now and I fail to see a decrease in functionality.
>>
>>51325167
Right so how much of it is filled?
There is documented proof, this year, filling it towards the end(look at the tech details it makes fucking sense) it drops upwards of 50% of its performance(and why you got an ssd in the first place)
>>
>>51312926
I recently got the 860k. Its okay but definitely dont go with the fm2+ socket line. It offers no option for major upgrades. Id go with the 6300 for 100$ on amazon. It uses the socket that allows you to get the 9350 later on.

Read that it'll run hotter with a less efficient psu, would the difference not be big enough for it to matter?

Seems like I could just stick another fan in it if that was a problem.
>>
>>51326436
they wouldn’t sell a power supply that they new would fuck up components, it could run a little hotter but they have a big ass fan in them and if your case is decent it should be able to expel that air easy.

the reason to get a better certification is if you are paying a lot for electricity and don’t want it to go through the roof with a high end computer.

quit being fag and just get ddr4 mobo, and the r7 370 or 750ti are better for $100.
>>
>>51328281
It's very good to awesome, but you can easily save money by waiting until SSD's get cheaper, using a smaller hard drive and only buy 8GB of RAM instead of 16. All while getting virtually the same gaming experience (besides load times)

You can also just get one GPU and buy the same one again when you are ready to upgrade for 2x GPUs and crossfire/SLI.
>>
>>51328406
is it possible if I get no ssd instead? Also changing the GPU to a 980 ti?
>>
>>51318380
>http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/KG36WZ
Spend a little more and get the fx-4350 and an amd mobo. Get a video card. Get an ssd and a cheaper hd, or at least get a cheaper hitatchi or toshiba 3tb from another site.
>>
>>51328446
Yes, feel free to not get an SSD. Plenty of computers run only HDDs. They also store more than SSDs, their main attraction is read/write speed and reliability, but you can use a RAID setup on 2 or more HDDs to make up for that.

If you are on a budget don't get the 980 ti. It's really good, but you can just get a tower good enough to hold 2 GPUs and get a cheaper one then a second later.

Idk what your budget is. Do you want to drop $1500 on a computer?
>>
>>51312992
Then bump up to a 5820k. A ton of cad and engineering software can use the 6 cores effectively and will provide greater longevity (Broadwell is also going to be Socket 2011v3 and you can go Xeon at the 10 year mark for pennies.

>>51328483
Also I need a wireless, so would I have to choose a wireless adapter?

>>
>>51328574
if you need wireless, get a pci wifi adapter.

You wont need a sound card for modern motherboards.
>>
>>51328588
Asus Z170 PRO Gaming Motherboard would this be a modern one?
>>
>>51328527
One R9 290 or 390 4GB or 8GB. MSI or Sapphire.

Assuming your CPU isn't shit you'll still run games fine, you just might not get 60 fps on ultra at 4K that's all.

>>51328574
A lot of mobos have integrated sound cards and wifi. Use pcpartpicker to look up people's builds in your budget range. Nowadays you really don't need a dedicated soundcard typically, but some people like them if they have a good audio setup.

Here is my build which I've been tweaking for the last couple weeks on a 1k budget:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Jr2Rcf

Definitely do your research, there's plenty of product review on pcpartpicker, amazon, newegg, and youtube. Compatibility will be your most important factor to keep in mind.
>>
>>51328601
>"ASUS have always been really good with onboard audio and the Pro Gaming Z170 board is no different. A Supreme FX audio processor has been included which includes a cover with isolation, but still uses the Realtek ALC 1150 sound chip to create sweet, sweet music."

you should be fine without m8
>>
>>51322835
Seems expensive for an fx-mobo, get this one MSI 970A-G46. Also bump up to a r9 380 or a used r9 290.

>>51328666

>>
>>51325529

970 is cheaper and outperforms the 390, it's a no brainer.
>>
>>51313296
pick whatever you want because the only differences are onboard audio, 4x pciex1 vs 3x pciex1, and their color.

and considering you're asking which, the only thing that matters to you should be color.

I've talked to people at the store about eGPUs before and the consensus I got was pretty much that you might as well build a whole new computer with all dedicated parts and keep your computer for marginally more than the whole setup.

Usually the price to setup a good external system with convertors has decreasing returns on investment as the quality and price of the GPU increases. While it might have made sense in the past, GPUs are really strong now and there is a good chance of a bottleneck occurring at the CPU for the hassle.
>>
