Is there something like this, but for Windows?

It's useful to me.

>>51307664
I don't care if it's paid or not, I just want something like that for Windows.
>>
theres no good software for windows because windows users are either poorfag indians or japs still running xp
>>
>>51307463
It's called Explorer.

I know, it can be hard to use if you come from a Mac background and are used to Finder, but it is actually really good.
>>
Explorer?
>>
how is this different from Evernote/?
>>
Explorer has had previews since XP.
>>
>>51308181
>>51308193
Explorer doesn't have swag like finder does. I mean look at that shit you got things separated by image sounds notes webpages, you got favorites in the mix. You got large almost full size previews. Finder is major swag. Wish I could put OS X on my thinkpad.
>>
Explorer.exe or if you don't want to change Window's shell you can always get a program that organises your notes.

I use OneNote for university notes everything is in one place and gets backed up regularly to Drop Box.
>>
>>51308233
>let me mention 6gorrillion different applications for what this does in one neat little package

Explorer is awful
It doesn't even have tabs.
>>
>>51308225
>finder

Who the fuck designed this shit?

You mean the one application, OneNote?
>>
>>51308253
Windows has Aero peek thumbnails on the task bar, which largely negates the need for tabs near the title bar. OSX doesn't have similar functionality, so tabs are useful.

And if you MUST have tabs, you can add them to default explorer with Clover.

And on top of that you can add any shit you want to there. Can install third party plugins if you want. And it's fully integrated with the rest of the system.

>>51308253
Screw you. I dislike Windows but even I think Explorer is a great file browser. If you want tabs install Clover or some shit.
>>
>>51308253
I use Clover for tabs. Only thing I'm jelly about is the color highlights/tags from OSX, which is really useful.

Other than that, Explorer is generally superior to stock finder.

>>51307463

There is.Its called removing Windows and installing Linux.
>>

>using one of the single most disgusting file browsers on windows

At least get Thunar or Dolphin.
>>
>>51308296
Then the task bar gets crowded, and you have to squint at a peek, rather than seeing a tab name.

>>51308305
I haven't used explorer since early 7, but when I last tried it, the only tab program that seemed acceptable was QTTabbar, which was a buggy, barely functional POS.

Clover seems better, but I haven't tried it.

Explorer has pretty much the bare minimum for a functional file browser, and that's it.

You even have to go to a separate program to toggle hidden folders on and off!

No split view either, which is a big pain at times.
>>
>>51308342
>Explorer has pretty much the bare minimum for a functional file browser, and that's it.

So what is missing? Because I generally get way better mileage out of it than the ones I use on Linux with their barely functioning previews and limited view options. Hell, last time I used nautilus it didn't even save my options for folder sizes.

Not to mention the file chooser is pretty damn great in Explorer.

>You even have to go to a separate program to toggle hidden folders on and off!
I will say that is probably my biggest issue with Explorer. Though I've never really seen the big thing about tabs sine I never really run out of screen space to just have multiple windows opens.
>>
Hey dudes I got a question. So I main on Windows at home but my work has all Macs. I can't copy, paste, or rename when I'm in a browser or import window. It's never worked on any of the Macs in 3 years of working there.

So basically, if I go to upload a file to a site, navigate to the file from the browse pop-up, and realize "shit, I named it wrong" - I can't rename it there. I have to separately open up Finder and do it.

Is this normal? If so, fucking fuck that shit.
>>
I guess OneNote could be used like this?
>>
OP. i dont get it, wtf does it do?

from what i can see it just makes everything colorful and adds annotations to everything.

How is it helpful? btw

>File chooser
This is the one thing explorer does well, but I rarely use it.
I normally just have a window open with my images and drag.

>Not saving view sizes
Works on my machine TM.
Where you using Arch or something?
I am using Nemo, but Nautilus should do this also.

>Barely functioning previews
OOTB, something like ubuntu will show more previews than windows will.
It's only the file chooser that has the issue.

>Limited view options
Like what?
I've got Icons + List + Compast, plus zoom and per view options.

Things that explorer doesn't have
- Easy way to toggle hidden folders on/off.
- Split view
- Rightclick -> Open in terminal
- Lack of support for mounting stuff, the interface to mount a network drive in explorer is awful, and supports only a few protocols.

Does it have invert selection/select items matching [pattern]?

And of course, the elephant in the room, tabs.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

All I can say is that when I finally made the switch, going from Explorer to Nemo was a godsend.
I could actual mount over ssh easily!
>>
>>51308453
I've also got 4 large monitors, and I still no room to waste with multiple explorer windows.

Especially for dragging between folders, splitview is a huge help.

Once you realize how much space not using tabs in a file manager causes, you can't go back.
At least for me.
>>
>>51308453
>- Easy way to toggle hidden folders on/off.
Is the options menu hard?

>- Rightclick -> Open in terminal
Hold shift and right click.
>>
>>51308444
You don't make annotations?
>>
>>51308479
To go and open a separate options menu?
I might be wrong, but you have to go to the separate options menu, outside the file manager to change that, right?

(Also hiding file extensions by default is retarded.)

>Hold shift and right click
I actually didn't know about that one.
If only windows had a good terminal to match.
Powershell doesn't cut it.
>>
>>51308504
Especially since if I go somewhere with a bunch of hidden stuff, I normally want to be able to quickly toggle it on and off.
Having to go into that options menu is a big PITA.
>>
>>51308504
>tools > folder options
What's even the point of having the option of hidden shit if you can toggle it on and off quickly?
>>
>>51308517
Clutter.
If I go to a program folder with a dozen config files, I'll probably want to quickly see them, but hide them when I'm not actively looking at them.
>>
>>51308453
Where you using Arch or something?
I am right now but none of the distros I've used had done it especially well.
Used Nemo, Nautliuls, Dolphin, Thunar. Basic images usually works, but stuff like videos are usually blank.

>OOTB, something like ubuntu will show more previews than windows will.
Last time I tried it showed like 40% of the videos in my torrent folder. And like 30% in my porn folder.

Explorer has Icons, list, detailed list, tiles and content. And all of them work folder independently.

>All I can say is that when I finally made the switch, going from Explorer to Nemo was a godsend.
Guess we just use our browsers very differently. The first thing I did when I installed Cinnamon was get rid of Nemo in favor of Thunar since I hated it so much.

I remember having a really annoying issue of never getting being able to get the compact list view small enough, and it would reset to the default icon view every time I closed it.
>>
>>51307664
With a nice tagging system. Must admit I'm kinda jealous, but would never spend money on it.
>>
>>51308489

my folder system is so sexy i never need to.

and i cant add annotations to every picture i have because i have so many anyway.

i just go by date.
>>
>>51308538

>Videos
Did you opt for the media extras during install?
I know there's one or two packages that automagically set ups a ton more video previews.

Doesn't windows not handle the mkv container by default, or am I wrong about that?

>Icons, List, Detailed List, Tiles, and content.

So 5 views overall, although counting list and detailed list as separate is stretching it.
I'm not really sure what some of those are, so I won't comment.
Also, Nemo will sorta switch views when zooming.
Compact mode will turn into a tile mode when you zoom out enough.
Not a good tile mode, but eh.
I'm pretty happy with list, icon, compact though.
Also, Nemo also have them folder independently, sounds to me like you made some database unwritable.

> Small enough
It gets small to the point of unreadability for me

>Reset
Not happening for me, sounds like something that sound be writable/installed isn't.

Check out split view, it's great for copying things between two locations with f3.
Or the pattern matching selector.

nothing is crowded about this, and you can see the window names. If you really want to know what's in the windows, when you hover over them all of your other windows turn transparent, no squinting required.
>>
>>51308552

nigga, its free

https://kickass.unblocked.la/together-v3-3-3-macosx-p2p-t9908755.html

And i can also recommend Pathfinder, which is far superior than finder.

>>
>>51308601
But now I have to bring my cursor all the way to the bottom, wait for the preview to pop up, and then I can select the "tab" to open.

That's two extra steps, plus a lot of context switching, and very different from the web browser tabs we are used to.

When rapidly going back and forth between two folders, it's a pita.
Tabs are a lot faster.
Also I should mention, one of the first things I do on any windows install is turn the task bar stacking off, I can't stand it.

I normally don't have enough programs open to fill up my task bar, and the slowness of switching between differences instances of the same program really bugs me.

For example.
I might have 2 emacs windows open, one is an older document, not currently working on it, one is what I'm currently doing.
I'm switching between that, and FF, often rapidly as I go back and forth between documentation and coding.
Having to click the emacs icon, then get the preview thingy, then select the correct one kills me.
It's far too slow.

So that's why the taskbar becomes really crowded for me IFF I don't have file manager tabs.
>>
>>51308581
>Did you opt for the media extras during install?
I generally do. Though not in Arch obviously.

>Doesn't windows not handle the mkv container by default, or am I wrong about that?
No I think you are right actually.

>Also, Nemo also have them folder independently, sounds to me like you made some database unwritable.
Guess I must have. Not sure how though. I mean, seems like a fresh install of Mint wouldn't have the time to fuck up that much.

>It gets small to the point of unreadability for me
For me the max I could zoom out was like double the size of the explorer list view.

Might be getting it confused with Dolphin though.
>>
>>51308636
>>51308601
Also, another big problem with this is you only see the window names when hovering over it.
>>
>>51308648

I'm using a fairly fresh/vanilla install, and it's working for me.

Not sure why not for you.
I rarely close Nemo anyway, but I just opened a new one, and it has my old views.

For the last point, I might just have bad eye sight.

i work on osx, windows and we have a debian machine.

finder sucks donkey dicks.
debians explorer is close to having your balls shaved off by a two year old with no control over their hands.

and explorer is just fucking fast and easy to use.

if you truly want that program, just install hackintosh and get OSX on a PC.
