Hello gents

I'm making a gaming machine, it's going to have a gtx 980. What monitor should I get?
>>
What are your other specs you dipfungus
>>
>>51305614
Something like the "Exceptional" tier on logical increments
>>
>>51305614
Does that matter?
>>
Give us more details you scrub.

What do you want? 1080p? 1440p? ultra hd?
And what games are you going to play?
>>
>>51305928
I want to play new games. I'm actually not sure about which resolution to get or anything. Maybe the highest the 980 can handle with new games?
>>
1920x1080, no need to go full 4K.
One monitor only. Don't get a multi-monitor setup, I fucking hate those. I'm just fine with this setup.
>>
>>51306547
Why 1080 over 1440? I agree 4k looks like a bad decision
>>
>>51306561

Because a higher resolution isn't worth the trade off in video settings you'll be making to get 60+ fps
>>
>>51306577
Mmmm... I think I'd be fine with the 45-60 FPS range
>>
The one with pixels
>>
>>51306659

Then play on console, cunt
>>
>>51306681
Consoles can't do 1440
>>
>>51306719

Good, that means they didn't fall for the meme
>>
>>51306735
>>
>>51306768
No, that's the actual correct usage
>>
>>51306778
honestly meme can mean literally anything you want now. all about the context
>>
Something IPS above 1080. GTX 980 can push higher resolutions easily. There is absolutely no reason to get a TN monitor unless you want 120hz
>>
>>51306804
That sounds like a good idea. Any recommendations on awesome 1440 IPS monitors
>>
>>51306815
Dell Ultrasharp. If you're willing to spend $500 on a monitor, anyway.

You will want at least a 120hz monitor. It breathes new life into the older games that will run >60fps on your card that you know you'll continue to play.

>Philips 40" 4K Monitor
>GTX 980ti

play everything on full at native res

thank me later

Thank you

Dell Ultrasharps are very high quality and have a fantastic warranty, they're expensive if you don't wait for sales though.

You could always get one of those Korean monitors if you wanted to save some money, but they can be a bit luck of the draw and you can hardly send it back because of a dead pixel.
>>
>>51306863
>>51306843

Which Ultrasharp were you thinking of? I'm googling them now and a little lost...
>>
>>51306863
Meh. I never cared for the Korean monitors. They use B- LG throwaways for their panels, many are TN even if they advertise as something else, and the build quality is frequently wtf-tier (dozens of dead flies, live roaches, and/or poisonous spiders inside; panel literally held to the bezel with scotch tape, stripped/missing screws, etc). Not all of them are VESA compatible either, and almost all of them are DL DVI-D passthrough so effectively no option for multi monitor setups since most GPU's made after ~2012 don't have 2 DL-DVI-D outs (and only some of them will work with DVI-I, and only at 60hz even if they're "OC-able".

Oh, and the majority of them only OC to ~96hz, which is not that much of an upgrade.
>>
>>51306897
I don't particularly have any one model in mind. I actually don't do 1440p myself since I don't have the desk space to run 3, 27" monitors and my CDO keeps me from having multiple monitor sizes/resolutions.
>>
>>51306815
hold your horses OP, you gotta weigh your options. You can either go 1080 TN with 120/144hz for ~ 250 dollars, 1440 IPS 60hz for about the same price, or you could do 1440 IPS 144hz, but that'll cost you over 700. If you play any competitive shooters I'd go for 144hz, if you don't, 1440. If you can afford 1440/144hz though, that would be fantastic.
>>
>>51305532
Look for two identical monitors, I would recommend 144Hz displays like iiyama prolight gb2488hsu, its 24" and really good.
>>
>>51306922
Unless he only wants to play CSS, a single 980 isn't pushing 1440 at 144hz on modern games.

Basically OP, for around 250-400$ your choice is between having a high-quality image and higher resolution or smooth motion for games.
>>
>>51306815
Well...
As much as I hate the ROG mentality, the Asus ROG monitors are pretty fucking sweet.

>1400p 27"
>freesync (34-144hz adaptive sync)
>1ms response for super-twitchy games
>standard VESA mount compatible
Only downside is it's a TN panel. One of the best TN's, but still gonna have crappy colors compared to a decent IPS.

>Unless he only wants to play CSS, a single 980 isn't pushing 1440 at 144hz on modern games.

My thoughts exactly
>>
>>51306990
ah I actually forgot about that. whoops. yeah in that case you're 100% right, just depends on whether OP wants a nice image or high refresh rate.
>>
>>51305532
Just get a 1080p with a 1ms latency. Not much you need. If you needed anything else you wouldn't be on here asking us with such a general question
>>
>>51307049
>just depends on whether OP wants a nice image or high refresh rate.

But a high refresh rate is pointless unless it is aa really old game, right?
>>
>>51306792
look into how Richard Dawkins explains what a meme is, he invented the term after all
They are right

This.

Can confirm Philips 4065UC is GOAT.

SLI 980's also outperform a 980ti by a bit, but I got mine for cheap. Just go single 980ti.
