Installed conemu and cygwin and everything works near flawlessly. A keyboard shortcut for literally everything.

However, might anyone know how to change my default home directory when using cygwin if it's at all possible. Or must I "cd c:/" every time? Thanks.

Also, post your command environments.

Why should I use this instead of the default mintty in Cygwin?

Well I installed it and it's pretty nice! I've been looking for some alternatives to mintty lately so this is helpful.

I've located my conemu.xml file but cant seem to figure out how to change colors for different file types when listing a directory.

If you find a way, please post. Cheers!

Isn't it literally just a different default config of conemu?

What do you mean?

when I type
>cd ~
it goes to C:\MinGW\msys\1.0\home\

but I want it to go to c:\users\

OOH I found the problem. When I have a trailing slash at the end it jumps to a new line with a leading ">" but if no slash it enters the command

I tried
>HOME="c:\users" cd ~
but it didnt change anything when I pwd

Oh yeah I forgot that the backslash does escaping :^)

Oh well I'm not sure how you'd do it
it works perfectly on my mac thought :%)

conemu on a mac?

also wince i've installed cygwin my command promt no longer cares whether I use forward or backward slashes for file directory unless of course if its strictly cygwin, if that makes sense

Do you know how to give attributes and file types different colors?

set home to /cygdrive/c/Users/VLAD
done

IIRC, this has some issues regarding Cygwin's Unix permissions handling though.
