Fedora 23 is out.

Any reason to switch or should I stick with Debian?
>>
It has Wayland. Switch, faggot.
>>
>>51299711
What's Wayland and why should I care?
>>
If Fedora seems a better fit for you, switch.
If it does not, don't switch.

I'm using it and I like it, but I don't see many use cases fitting both of them.
>>
Stick with Debian, is this even a question. If you want newer software just use Stretch.
>>
>>51299730
A xorg replacement. It's still buggy but usable. And allows better support to use touchpad gestures.

Why should anybody want that?

You're not giving a reason to use said distro at all
>>
>>51299870
For native Wayland packages
>>
>>51299893
Which I should want why?
>>
>>51299796
My only real concern is that I'm reading things saying it crashes after handing off from the display manager gdm over to gnome because Wayland is still glitchy and doesn't want to play nice with Nvidia.

I tried Fedora 22 and it always crashed every single time I tried to login after a clean install. I ended up having to force terminal boot and then dnf install lightdm to replace gdm because gdm simply did not work.

I'd rather not have to fuck around with it if it's going to give me grief like that still. Debian testing works just fine for me so I'm mainly interested in any good reason to switch or even try out Fedora 23 that makes it really impressive compared to what I'm currently running.

>>51299689
it's nothing special just like most distros, only change if you're looking for something new or bored with debian
>>
>>51299935
Convienance.

What packages a distro supports is basically the only difference between distros.

>>51299975
but doesn't arch with the aur and the buntus with ppas theoretically support infinite software?
>>
>>51299975
As a xorg replacement, is it easier to configure if I want to customize my DE or is it designed around gnome and biased in that way?

One thing I like about xorg is that it has no bias, as in, it strictly doesn't work better with any given DE so I can use and configure whatever I want. Is Wayland also impartial or is it designed upstream to work better with gnome, thus encouraging users to use gnome?
>>
>>51299995
wayland and xorg are both packages bruh, and not everyone uses a gui

nice get m8

I'm not that guy

I guess. Depends what you want

Just use Debian Stretch, if you need new packages. Nothing special about Fedora.
>>
>>51300000
No such thing as infinite software. Also pointless due to no infinite storage either.
>>
>>51300018
Better with Gnome because they choose to test with Gnome. I think KDE Plasma is also developed with Wayland in mind

Jesus christ. Arch, check your power level.

Touchpad gestures? Well, they come in handy, and all xorg allows is two finger scroll. With wayland so far pinch to zoom already works for me. They also claim 4-finger swipe to switch workspace is there but doesn't work on my end, maybe due to my particular touchpad model not supporting so many fingers.
>>
>>51300077
arch in the form of manjaro, antergos, and architect is actually pretty accessible
>>
>>51300097
OP here, and yee, I run Manjaro on my home desktop. Debian on my memepad. Manjaro is 'aight.
>>
It's better than Plebian.

For someone wanting to use linux for some games to will Fedora/Wayland be alright for a AMD GPU user?
>>
>>51301797
Fuck no, fedora barely has reliable nvidia driver support since they change xorg so often.
>>
>>51301797
Ubuntu
>>
For me fedora is a train wreck. Gnome 3 is ok until you actually try to do something useful and everything falls apart. Wayland is so crazy and buggy it's practically unusable. Selinux butts in all the tine and ruins my day.
>>
>>51301927
What distro would you say has the best reliable nvidia support?
>>
>>51299689
Fedora may be the only thing out there that's even shittier than Debain.

redhat beta testing and experiment playground. you all fedora user is redhat's lab rat.

What the fuck does this even mean. What are you doing with Wayland that makes it "crazy"? And how can you complain Wayland is buggy when X didn't even work most of the time?

If you don't know why you should or shouldn't switch then you should stick with what you have because you're clearly too fucking dumb to make sound decisions yourself.

can`t get Fedora to even boot into the live environment

Plebuntu fails as well

linux, not even once
>>
>>51308566
I feel like you'd get more out of keyboard shortcuts than touchpad gestures

Just updated to F23 + transferred my linux partition on my SSD. I'm a windows babby though so I don't notice much of a difference from 22 ;^(

The one where you can install Nvidia drivers.

What useful thing couldn't you do ?

i know its a meme as well but srsly go for Gentoo
>>
I updated to Fedora 23 and I cannot find out why the new multi-touch gestures are not working on the touchpad. I am running under Wayland...
>>
OpenSUSE 42 is out, there's literally no reason to use Fedora.
>>
>>51309740
Check their changelog. So far only pinch to zoom (works in Shotwell) and 4-finger-swipe are implemented.
>>
>>51309986
None of those things work for me. I don't know why.
>>

Check-mate, atheists.
>>

it still uses x.org and doesn't use wayland by default. maybe fedora 24 will be better.
>>
>>51310011
probably your touchpad model? mine is reported by Windows 10 to be a precision touchpad, don't know if it has anything to do. Just tried and pinch to zoom also works in the PDF viewer.
