>Microsoft is opening new data centers in Germany to allow European customers to hide their digital information from US government surveillance. The new data centers will open in late 2016 and will be operated by a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. However, The Financial Times notes that customers will have to pay extra to store their data in this way. "These new data centre regions will enable customers to use the full power of Microsoft’s cloud in Germany [...] and ensure that a German company retains control of the data," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at a press conference in Berlin this morning.
>The announcement is the latest move in an ongoing battle between US tech companies and the American government over access to foreign-held data. Companies like Microsoft and Google want to retain the trust of their users after the Snowden revelations, but have to contend with American police and spy agencies who want the same privileged access they've always enjoyed. An ongoing legal battle between Microsoft and a New York court exemplifies the debate, with the US authorities demanding access to the emails of an American citizen stored in Ireland and Microsoft refusing to hand over the data.
Because countries never spy one another.
Not that I care anyway.

oh boy
>>51297995
>host in germany to hide from US spies
>a country occupied by 50.000 US soldiers
full retard.
>>51297995
if they stopped collecting all my fucking information in the first place they wouldn't NEED a storage centre at all never mind one in germany.
only joking. i don't use windows.
>>51298119
Do you think those soldiers are going to storm the data center or something?
>implying the NS of A wont just force them to give them the data anyways
>implying id ever trust Microsoft for anything
>>51298119
>a country occupied by 50.000 US soldiers
>occupied
EU got replaced by Big Sister botnet?
Honestly this actually makes the data more robust for more reasons than just the NSA. Europe, and especially germany, actually has data protection laws, where America doesn't. Your data, even if you're not german, is protected by the laws.
Didn't Germany license NSA xkeyscore for sharing info with them? I read it on Ars months ago.
Photo DNA will stick get you fugged however.
Chinese cartoons will be banned soon and we'll all be fucked.
Not good enough, if you want people to switch to Win10, tone down the fucking data collection.
Not that anyone trusts Microsoft anyway.
Everyone here complains about windows 10 so much, why don't you start a petition or something?
They actually listen to the feedback app, why don't we start making posts asking to remove auto updates and telemetry and upvote all of them?
i'm from austria. there's been a little scandal recently about german security services forwarding "intel" about austrian politicians to the US secret service.
the data center being in germany will do fuck all. it's a placebo
>>51298408
Petition? Petitions don't do anything.
What we do is stop using windows 10.
Just don't use it.
>>51297995
Doesn't help.
Germany recently passed a law that requires internet providers to store all connection data so that german law enforcement can access it.
>>51298463
>Doing nothing will fix everything!
>place servers outside of the US to keep them away from the NSA
>hand over all of your customer data to the NSA voluntarily as soon as they ask
Thanks, Microsoft.
>>51297995
>trusting microsoft that they will not create regular backups of the German servers to the NSAmerican servers
ayy
>>51298434
>the data center being in germany will do fuck all. it's a placebo
Placebos work. This doesn't.
>>51297995
Yea right. They're probably just going to use the better internet infrastructure to sift through the data faster.
If I'm gonna lose my freedumbs I might as well go with microcock
Google has way too much power already
As a Brit I wish this made a difference to me.
Fuck it, any country with the resources to spy is doing it.
>>51297995
And the NSA genuinely does not give two shits about this
They already have an open backdoor in Satya.
A large, gaping backdoor.
>>51297995
>Hiding from US Spies in Germany
>Germany
>Pet-Dog of the USA
Oh Nutella, good joke. Better get back to your
DESIGNATED
.
Until it's in Russia or China i don't believe them anything
>>51298188
Do you actually think they'll say no to US influence?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XKeyscore#Germany
I feel so much better now that Germany is in charge.
>>51299143
Shouldn't you sign a petition that bans inbredding and unbans those retarded porn laws?
