I hope your upgrading from a '08 (or older) CPU. If not, hold off on Skylake.
Simple answer is go i5 unless you're doing video editing or streaming while PC gaming. If so, go i7. Invest an extra $50 or so for good cooling so you can overclock.
Only downside is all LGA 1151 Mobo are just "eh". Think I'm getting a cheaper one until a really good one is made.
