Just wondering if I can put my operating system on on an ssd with a caddy and put it in my hp optical drive

It's still the same sata controller so yes.
>>
Yes, you can, and then boot from it. I've done this on a thousand or so laptops.

However if your laptop is less than 3 years old it should support mpcie ssds like pic related. Then you can have a sizable SSD, the same hdd you had, and keep your dvd drive.

My laptop is a hp pavilion 15 ab034ax, do you know if it supports it??

what you should do:
> plug in SSD to HDD bay
>plug in HDD to dvd caddy
a lot of those laptops have issues booting HDDs from the DVD bay for some reason
plus i know in some the HDD bay is SATA 6gb/s and the DVD bay is 3gb/s
>>
overall, do you think that it will speed up my pc?
>>
>>51291103
Yes, SSD is a night and day difference from coming from any hdd. Anyone who says differently is using the ssd placebo meme which can only be a direct result of using some shitty 90s cloning software that doesn't support trim which makes the ssd work as poorly as it possibly can or is perpetually stuck in 2007 when ssds only lasted a few months
>>
For some reason my laptop didn't like it but I can't see why it wouldn't work in most cases. They are the best value accessories you can get IMO and are a must even if you don't put an SSD in it.

This. SATA for DVD bay is noticeably slower than HDD one. Expect performance drops.

It depends on the BIOS, I own Dell XPS l502x and my BIOS couldn't boot from optical drive. Eventually I will have to switch it with my primary drive, but right now I am too lazy to do it.

Are these goods?
I live in a third world country and found a T420 by accident and for 100$.
Later I learned of the mSATA, but I can't find anything where I live, so I have to order one online, what are your experience? Is there one do you recommend? Also if I already installed my OS, How hard is to move / to it?
/HOME is on a separate partition, Just edit the UID in fstab?
