Given a choice between windows 7, 8.1 and 10, which would you install?

Which of these version is less botnet/is easiest to remove the botnet from?

>inb4 (GNU/)Linux/*BSD/OS X
I need a windows installation for school software and such.

7 is the best

Windows 10. The botnet cannot be escaped. You can avoid it with 7 and 8 but eventually those updates will become mandatory.

Windows 7,

Windows 8/8.1 == shite metro pish

Windows 10 == botnet
>>
OS 10
>>
It'll become progressively harder to block attempts from MS to get into 7 and 8.1

8.1 has proved to be faster for me overall, I would recommend that if it weren't for the previous fact.

If you have to stick with Windows, you will have to get used to 10.

It's not that serious. I'm not gonna use it often

Yeah I think I'll just get 10, since 7 or 8 will just keep telling me to install it anyway

Does anyone have that infographic for which windows updates to uninstall to remove the "Upgrade to Windows 10" icon?

If you don't want botnet XP or vista are your only options. Of you don't like it but you are OK with it, Windows 10 all the way.

7 and 8.1 are going botnet too. Go for 10, tweak it the best you can for privacy and make a dual boot with your favorite linux distro for private / serious things.

I had a choice, and I installed 7.

you could install 8 if you wanted, I just didn't want to deal with the metro bullshit, I had 8 preloaded on a machine I got and didn't bother to reinstall, installed Classic Shell so I could get my start menu back
haven't personally noticed any major performance gap between 7 and 8

7 and 8 are about the same when it comes to MS inducting you into the botnet and removal.

>>51288725
the real most important thing is windows update always being active and auto-installing updates (requiring reboots because MS can't into updating for whatever reason, Windows has needed a shitton of reboots since forever)
and that's not a toggalable setting

>>
>>51290915
Again, if you don't like metro, you can install classic shell and have a more lightweight, smoother version of windows 7.

However, seeing as you're a retarded winfag, you probably don't know how to change any default settings and keep everything just as your OEM installed it.
>>
8.1 is great. I installed aero on it so I'd even say it looks better than 7. Old style Start Menu was shit anyway. I was always into upgrading until 10 came along. Something just don't feel right and for once I'm not even attracted to anything going on with it, not even little graphical interface nuances.
>>
>>51291268

you know it doesnt magically get rid of metro. It's still bloating up the system. Nice try though. I'll stick to Win7

Well I'm sure a faggot like you likes bloating up their OS as much as their ego.

I would install Windows 10, using 8.1 right now, it set up and it works so, I'm going to wait until 10 is a little more mature before upgrading.

10. The botnet features that you should be concerned about, like keylogging, are in 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. Since you're going to get spied on, at least get a decent feature set like Cortana.
Although 10 is way too bugged - explorer.exe becomes unresponsive, searches just hang for eternity.

Personally, Windows 7.

I'm currently using Win10 and it is not as good. Has frequent performance hiccups with Explorer that I didn't get on Win7, among many other issues.

Not sure what the fuck MS is doing.

At least with Windows 7 I could read through and pick my updates and configure the firewall.

I was hoping to upgrade to Windows 10, but I got sick of watching /g/ threads constantly to see what kind of shit I had to disable next.

According to MS's timeline, Windows 7 will stop being supported around the time that Windows 10 is going to be replaced by Windows 11.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle

Despite what MS claims about Windows 10 being the "last", they already have plans to end mainstream support within 5 years.

This. Was contemplating 10 but I just hear too many bad things. Take that versus the near-perfect 7 and it's a tough choice.

>>51298044
>Windows 11

Fuck are you on about, m9? There is definitely not going to be a Windows 11. It's just going to be called Windows from here on out. It's going to be similar to OS X in that newer versions will come out of the same OS, Windows. The support timescale is for when particular versions are the latest and most supported versions.
>>
>>51295139
Lol normies hate 8.1 and normies use and recommend 7. In fact they recommend 7 at the same time they trash on Vista le Vista is le bad epok maymu when 7 = Vista SP2.
The reason you don't see much normies recommending 10 yet is because "it isn't well optimized".

Thats actually a hard choice, cause any of those versions is shit in so many different ways.

Windows 7 / 8 don't have workspaces or proper window management. Once you have too many applications open on a laptop the whole system gets utterly unusable cause there's no way to get order into that mess.

Windows 7 is slow and sluggish as fuck on top of it.

Windows 8 got tablet cancer all over the place.

Windows 10 is botnet forced update bullshit and has ugly-ass spacings. The whole flat design just looks uninspired.
>>
>>51287438

I've migrated to Win10 lately and I regret it, it is shit. It was a mistake, don't do it. Stick to windows 8.1 at least until a service pack is released.
