The fact that it's a protocol is reason enough already. Protocols are patriarchic, forcing data to follow certain patterns and roles that are forced onto it at creation. Protocols prevent free expression of data and limit data's potentials. Set data free, abolish FTP and other oppressive protocols! Fatherly Template Protocol, Highly Tapped Termination Protocol, HTTP's Slave variant, Unilateral Domination Protocol, Thick Cock Protocol, Insensitivity Protocol, etc are all evil!

Opera has that feature built in.
FTP is obsolete, to be honest. Use SSH or scp to copy data to a remote host, and put anything you want users to download in your public_html or www directory.
