The 390 is still a vastly better purchase and superior card in most cases.
This sort of thing isn't new from Bethesda or Nvidia. They're playing dirty with settings that don't work as well on AMD cards, and that can't be tweaked well outside of an .ini
But once you tweak it, the 390 will get more frames than the 970, especially if you overclock them both. An overclocked MSI 390 8g will beat the equivalent 970 pretty easily.

The 390 is factory overclocked...all costumes can't go higher. It's a different story with the 970

I get well over 100fps constant on an overclocked r9 290 at 1440p with Tess capped to 16x in catalyst panel.
Do you people actually play these games on any hardware at all or are these posters mouth breathing kids with gtx 650 ti on computers assembled from a mix of handy down parts, that dream of a day they can play a game at 60fps max settings so they read review sites all day and shitpost about some game with worse graphics than oblivion with mods from a decade ago, which is watered down so hard it'll run on shitty console APUs at 30fps?
Because I really don't understand these topics. This is like complaining about 8x fsaa vs 4x fsaa performance at 1080p - NO ONE SHOULD CARE. 120/144fps is far more important and actually noticeable.
