Finally have an ARMv8 design to replace the tiny Cortex A7. At least its better than nothing.
I'm sure Rockchip and Allwinner are going to spit out 8 core designs with these for all the Chinese tablets out there. A whole new generation of $5 SoCs is on the horizon.

It can do burst frequencies if one or two cores are active but yeah under normal conditions all cores would be stressed so only the base frequency would be reached.

It's sad and the only way to get more raw power out of atoms will be to toss in more cores. Still I'd prefer an atom over any ARM chip desu

Yeah, max tdp is around 6 watts most likely. However this still competes with ARM chips as they can have up to 8 watts of max tdp.

Still x86 chips still require more power than ARM chips however that line is getting very thin now. If I were ARM I would be very scared of intel right now.
>>
>>51281859
nice may may, too bad it's not true. These are 14nm atom processors not core m housefires. I haven't heard any thermal issues from them.
>>
>>51281549
ARM on suicide watch??
>>
>>51282280
Not yet but most likely after cherry trail's successor. Cherry trail atom chips like the z8700 probably have a max tdp of 6 watts so they consume more power than most ARM chips. Though I'm not sure about performance. Atom chips always have low performance but they have x86 cores so i dunno.
>>
LOL, armshills got pretty quiet. What's wrong lads? Worried intel might tear ARM a new one and make them bankrupt in a few years?
>>
>>51282455
Intel doesn't have a single chip even remotely capable of matching Apple's A9 in performance, let alone performance at such a low TDP.

The laughably retarded tripfag ITT is ignored by near everyone for being a habitual shitposter.
>>
>>51282455
The only reason ARM exists is because their chips use around 1-2 watts on average which is crucially important for a long battery life on a phone. Also ARM chips are cheaper, I won't deny that.

However x86 chips will soon do both of those things especially as AMD enters the mobile market.
>>
>>51282712
> especially as AMD enters the mobile market.

AMD was absolutely explicit that they had no intention of trying to compete for mobile device, you fucking imbecile. It came right out of Lisa Su's mouth in a live presentation during their financial analyst day.

The only singular reason why intel has any presence whatsoever in handset devices is because of contrarevenue. They literally had to buy marketshare.

Do you even fucking know what it's max tdp even is? It's probably like 10 watts because everyone complains about the shit battery life the iphone 6s offers. Also the core m chips shit all over your fancy A9 turd.

>The laughably retarded tripfag ITT is ignored by near everyone for being a habitual shitposter.
So being right makes you a shitposter now? x86 is going to fucking destroy arm. Stop acting like arm won't be violently murdered when intel makes something better than cherry trail.

Yes I know that anon-kun. They could change their minds though especially as everyone is going mobile. AMD is still interested in making chips for laptops and tablets (A10 micro-6700T). It might take them longer to enter the mobile market though, but they might. Honestly I just wish they would so they could bring more heat to ARM and kill it faster.

>The only singular reason why intel has any presence whatsoever in handset devices is because of contrarevenue. They literally had to buy marketshare.
True. I'm glad they did though. We needed someone to save us from these tablets that can only run a shitty mobile os.
>>
>>51282877
Microshit has a free Windows 10 version for RaspberryPi 2 which uses a quad core ARM cpu
>>
>>51282829
>It's probably like 10 watts
Its not, you immature twat. Total device power for the 6s is 5watts. Same for the Exynos powered Note 4, and the Galaxy S6 is sitting around the same mark.
No ARM SoC is pulling 10watts, not even under a power virus. The single most power hungry ARM chip to hit the market aside from some Tegra parts was the dual core Exynos 5250 that went in the Nexus 10. It had an 8 watt delta in load to idle.

>So being right makes you a shitposter now?
Constantly talking out of his ass about things he isn't even remotely familiar with is what makes him a shitposter. He would shill Core M endlessly until someone made his stupid ass actually look at a review of Core M device to see how much power the chips draw.
Even just now the fucking retard was talking about AMD pursuing the mobile market, when they explicitly stated that they would not.
He just talks out of his ass constantly, like you're doing right now. Broadwell CoreM parts cannot compete with the A9 in heavy CPU tasks, or GPU performance. They draw an insane amount of power, and throttle terribly. Their Atom processors aren't even worth mentioning.

>>51282940
>hey could change their minds though especially as everyone is going mobile.
No, "everyone" is not.
Intel fought tooth and nail to try and compete, and they're floundering to hell and back. Not even Nvidia could secure design wins so they backed away from the mobile market and are trying to sell their Tegra chips in set top boxes and carputers.

You do not have any idea what you're talking about. Ever. Every single thread you show up in you just talk out of your ass.

>>
>>51282644
I hope you don't actually use things like Geekbench as a measure of computational performance between processors in different architectures.

So your A9 is twice times as fast at doing SHA, that isn't what the majority of applications spend most of their time doing.
Fact is that ARM processors often have engines built into them to do things like hashing and encryption because it can be done faster for less power consumption if you build specific areas of the die for it, just like hardware video decoders.
>>
>>51283086
>tech illiterate retard gets butthurt over facts
How typical.

800mhz Broadwell cores, and Core M parts do throttle down to 800mhz, are literally nowhere near the A9's Twister cores in sustained performance.

Geekbench only measures the stock clock of the CPU, it doesn't take into account the turbo boost, which is up to 2.9GHz I think on the Core M.
http://ark.intel.com/products/84672/Intel-Core-M-5Y71-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-2_90-GHz

Of course because the Macbook throttles like shit we have no idea what frequency it was running over the course of the test, but frankly we don't know for the A9 either.

You can search through the anandtech forums for indepth looks at the actual code geekbench uses, and the reasons why it is not a tool for cross architecture comparisons. Its not even a good tool for running on a single architecture, its a fancier version of Passmark.

ARM is better price/performance anyways, mememarks don't matter when all you're doing is checking Facebook and editing a Word doc.

Performance only matters when you're gaming, and when it comes to that it's mostly the GPU doing the work.

>>
>>51284304
To be honest there is some benefit in having fast SHA1 though, it is often used to verify files, like updates and apps to check integrity. If it is being used frequently by the system to check apps on launch or whatever then it would straight up be reducing launch times.

However it is the only area in CPU level stuff where the A9 shits all over the CoreM so it is clearly the main reason why the scores are as close as they are, with most of the rest being the RAM benchmarks and I don't know if they are the result of the RAM itself, the memory controller or what.

They're not, the core m beats the A9 in 99% of scores and most importantly has more raw computational power. The A9 also can't run a desktop OS.
>>
>>51284520
Interesting, I didn't know that. How crippled does it run on the arm processor though? Or can you do everything on the arm version of gentoo that you can on the x86 version of gentoo?
