Protip, if you are planning on buying something on BF it's typically better to buy it now then use your credit card to price match it if it has that feature. Just make sure you save a copy of the receipt and of the BF advertisement (Dated so just CTRL+P the actual page and save it to PDF and just print it out).
That way you can buy it and not fight 30 people for that 1 device.

I see a lot of other people are also after solid-state drives. I need a few for my most regularly used Thinkpads, probably just two for my X201 and T420. I hope a reliable company (i.e. not Kingston) gives a sizable discount on some good drives. I've been holding off on buying anything, useful-or-not, for so long that I didn't even realize how much excess money piled up. These spinning-platter disks still work, but they could give up the ghost at any second, now. All of them are pulls from shit I've scrapped, and who knows how long they've got to live?
What do you guys think is the ideal or most cost-effective capacity? My current assumption is that it varies by company/model, and that there is no single leader (like GPUs). Should I compare the specs (controller chips, features, bells/whistles, average I/O speeds) of different drives, and also the ratios of price to size? Which factor makes a better purchase in the end? Is there a go-to method to clone entire Linux installations (just ext4 with swap on MBR) from disk to disk? Can dd work (I already expect it to be slow, regardless of block size).

The particular chromebook in question is the better version of the acer chromebook 11, its got a nicer processor and better quality SSD than the regular 11
theyre normally 160-200$ and are regarded as one of the best quality chromebooks in that price range, its intel and not ARM, so linux croots are really easy and useful
