Imagine things you think are pretty fast now. Loading up your web browser is pretty fast right? With an ssd it becomes practically instantaneous.

I wouldn't say I upgraded from a HDD.
I still use HDD for storage of random junk and crap that's important to me.
However, it is a very good quality of life upgrade if you install your OS on the SSD, or whatever software you feel is important on it, because it loads hell of a lot faster.

Honestly I don't think it's worth it for speed. I have one in my laptop for portability and power usage, but the only performance gains is a boot time of 3 seconds from power button instead of 5, directories loading in the file manager in 0.01 instead of 0.1, and Firefox loading in 5 seconds instead of 10. Boot time is maybe 30 seconds quicker with the SSD as opposed to the HDD.
Applications are a lot snappier.

The best comparison I can think of for HDD to SSD is like browsing the internet with and without an adblocker. You just can't go back once you're used to it. Though admittedly newer operating systems are faster with spinning drives, there's always still slowdown at various time. My main storage drives are always notably slower.
You can't use full disk encryption on an SSD.(Read TC/VC guide for more info)
So sadly I had to switch back to using my HDD as my OS drive. I still have my SSD for other various programs though.

Even if you get the most expensive CPU and GPU available, without an SSD the computer will feel as if it's from the 90s.
Everything happens 10 to 20 times faster. The biggest gains happen when you have several applications to read files at the same time. What normally would take maybe one minute even on an HDD can take easily 10-20 minutes - with an SSD it's done in seconds and it simply no longer matters whether it happens in parallel or not. You can just use your computer without having to constantly worry about the low level details.

I have a 128 gb ssd for all critical programs and a bunch of several-TB HDDs for porn and anime. Getting an SSD isn't upgrading, its expanding. Unless all of your drivebays are full and you have 5TB HDDs in all of them, theres no reason not to get an SSD

Every single process has virtual memory on your boot drive right now, yes that shitposting tab has virtual memory on it just chilling on your boot drive. Thing is that you need to read those virtual addresses and then map them to physical memory. Yes, SSD is exponentially better than old platters at this point. They are now more robust and software is designed to identify and protect them from unecessary tasks like defrags. On top of this they are virtually impervious to write/rewrite functions at this point.
There are now large capacity SSDs that boast a terabyte plus without sacrificing read/write speeds. These the most important factors to a good SSD, you are wasting your money if you don't get one capable of ~500 maps read/write.
All data is readily available in SSD format instead of having to be read off a spinning platter.
