It's "oobuhntu", and it's a pretty average OS. For a low competency user like you, just stick with what you're used to.

I installed Mint Linux on my Dad's PC a couple of months ago and he loves it.
I just need to teach him how to install security updates and he'll never have to use Windows again.
>>
Why not run a script at startup to check for updates...?
>>
>>51278314
I've installed Lubuntu on our old pc and both my parents freaked out because they didn'nt understand shit and were not in the mood of learning something new, like most people that just want to read their mail/write some documents.

I just set everything up to feel as Windows-like as possible and slapped a cheeky Numix theme on. My Dad mainly browses the internet and watches movies, so he already knows how to use Firefox and VLC.

Yes I tried the same but it's just not windows and they couldn't simply install acrobat reader, the printer gave them bullshit and there was no word.

The only good thing coming out of installing Linux on our family pc was that we had a new one within a week.

but why go for a half-assed Windows clone?
both Firefox and VLC devs do focus on Windows not some random linux distro and hate random distros overtaking their libraries. so if you have a bug in Firefox or VLC on linux, report to your distro not upstream, which doesn't feel like testing something like Linux that doesn't have stable ABI/API/SDKs.

WPS Office is a good substitute for Word in that it basically copies Word's UI.
Stuff like wireless keyboards and printers are usually just a matter of searching the internet for answers.

My dad would wonder why I'm suggesting debian instead of the Fedora Red Hat distro he's fond of.
