That's the some serious shit.

Seriously TAKE THE TIME to read it.

I didn't think Google was so deep in the whole NSA/US military/US military thing, but it turns out their CEO and all the key people at Google are friends with top politicians and military generals from the US and are considered part of the US defense and strategic system.

Like holy shit, there is no escape: there are basically 4 giant USA companies which gather your data and either sell it, send it to US agencies or just create profiles for you to target you later. Seriously, Europe seems like the only escape, we should start using that free European search engine, forgot the name, it was located in France.

The future looks bleak if Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Apple have it their way. They become global superstates, outside any control, and they can have anyone's data and manipulate politicians in any country.

If we don't act before it's too late, we're gonna regret it. We need a good search engine which is located in Europe, because the EU legislation is very tough on privacy and doesn't allow companies to pull that shit that USA companies can.

We need to contribute to a major search engine located in Europe, and stop using Google, stop using Facebook, stop using any major US company product which spies on people and builds global empires based on your personal information.

Jeez.
>>
I came to the realisation a while ago that America's best chance of becoming a decent country is Google vying for world domination. And considering the influence America wields, this would be a good thing for the rest of the works as well.

I didn't think Google actually had that angle and I'm still far from convinced, but there's some food for thought.
>>

Google is using their dominant position on the internet to influence public opinion.

As increasing amounts of people use the Internet to source more of their news and information, Google is given more power over information dissemination.

How many non-/g/tards can you name that go an entire day without relying on Google?

I know it sounds kind of frivolous, but you will miss some apps. I'm not a snapchat/tinder/whatever other trendy app kind of guy, but I do miss Strava. Not a big deal though, there's alternatives, but none of them work as great as Strava did on Android.

Other than that, I love my WP, even though it's old as shit. It's just so smooth, battery lasts forever, and I dig the tiles.
>>
>>51279266
>We need a good search engine which is located in Europe, because the EU legislation is very tough on privacy and doesn't allow companies to pull that shit that USA companies can.

I wish.
With the TTIP being discussed right now, this may soon come to an end.

Russia may be the best option right now.
I mean, they would spy me as well, but they don't have the same political connections that USA and Google have.
So, even if they spy me, they have less leverage to do something about what I say.
But I'm pretty sure this reasoning has some problems as well, even if I don't quite see them at the moment.
>>

>>
>>51279448
The news is that Google is not naively allowing the US to spy the world and influence it, but they are actively doing so.
Also, Google is behaving more and more like a nation and less like a company, while still not being subject to the limitation normal countries have.
This, topped with the fact that by 99% of world population Google is seen as good bros that care for them.
>>
I've been saying this for years. This is no surprise to me since I predicted this.

If google et al are collecting information on everyone, they are collecting information on politicians. Large amounts of money and the private information of almost every politician basically add up to a vast amount of power.
You think google wouldn't use the information it has on people to manipulate them? I doubt it's particularly overt at this point but with someone's google searches it's basically like a how to guide on manipulation. Just poke their buttons about so and so issue and they'll jump on board with whatever you want.

The US spent 1.1 trillion in 2014 on it's military. That is more then the next top nineteen countries combined, and that cost was considered a cutback. Mind you other countries like china could be spending more and not reporting their actual costs.

No that kind of manipulation can only affect people of high profiles, who have things to hide and a face to save.
Regular people can abandon google completely and leave them powerless, simply by using alternatives. If you're feeling vindictive you can even feed them bogus information.
As far as alternatives, well it's just like any other thing when there is a monopoly or collusion of large corporations: you just support the mom & pop shops and the underdogs, even if sometimes it turns out to be more expensive or less convenient.

Why would I, who already knows this, work with you, who needs it spoon fed to you? You would be a liability.

In fact you all are. It's like this is the end of the world to/g/. Truth is, the HW and Reagan administrations put stupid administrators into place that Clinton couldn't totally purge because the president is not a dictator, then Bush 2 rolled around just in time for the Internet age, but it had already passed so "they" (retards) were convinced to advocate web 2.0, out of which all was crap except for AJAX.

You voted with you're wallets and deserve the totalitarianism that's coming to you.

Meanwhile I will become a penguin.
>>
>>51284430
>AJAX.
That's pretty much crap too desu. Web browsers don't need the kind of bloat and associated security risks required to house a VM. I just want to read static HTML documents, and can hit "reload" button to refresh the page if necessary. In truth, the web is a bad place for foum style conversations anyway, since unlike intelligent Usenet client, you can order threads or otherwise manipulate data on an arbitrary level to your own custom wants and needs. Even NNTP without Usenet propagation/decentralization is much superior for those reasons alone.

Forget it.
The whole reason this stuff works/is happening is because small and organized parties will naturally be better at getting things done.

The majority of the world, who will eventually suffer from these changes can't be organized properly as the group is simply too large, spread out and not connected.

/g/, while much smaller, isn't exactly organized either, being (mostly) anomynous. That with the added issue of having fuck-all influence on the larger scale means only one thing: We are fucked.

These parties are going to succeed and there is nothing we can do about it. Enjoy everything while you still can.

Thats where you're wrong.
The same analogy is real world. They are trying to control everything but there are still crimes , acts against authority , organizations , "pirates".
So just like in real world the cyber world will become the zone where they try to control everything and other people trying to be independent , anonymous , free ... this will only bring larger numbers to the cause and people will be more aware and organized than ever before.
Of course like for everything, for this too people will need to be spanked on their nose until they realize what google , apple , microsoft really are ... After all these years , the great majority of popullation are still "not into tech" so they still dont understand what is really happening , it needs time , but they will come to understand since internet and technology are getting into every aspect of human lifea and profession.
I am not saying that all will become awake, there will still be blind consumerism and entertainment for mass sedation , but large enough numbers of people will awake and they will become serious opponent.

Well there's a reason Russia is funding Yandex and took tight control over Vkontakte, they know google and social media are tampering with information to influence on people's political views.
The arab srping was a good example of that. They either sell your data or try to brainwash you on the CIA's orders.
In exchange they get some of the metadata processed by the NSA which helps them sell crapware more efficiently to people.
They also get the NSA to do industrial espionage for them of course.

This is the impenetrable banality of “don’t be evil.” They believe that they are doing good. And that is a problem.

>stop using electonics/technology altogether if you're that paranoid

only sane alternative:
let's create a kickstarter campaign to make our own /g/ microprocessor factory and brand, using opensource chips and cheap neet labor

that's the only way we can make sure no NSA tampering has been made. Of course, we'll need a fresh supply of silicone waffers and other high-tech consumables which can't be tampered with.

Oxford Instruments has a wide range of tech-stuff useful for the feat, like this badass atomic layer deposition machine able to build some killer PCs.

It would take about $800K USD just to buy the machine, though. We'll need twice as that for other shit, plus some more for at least 5 years or so of operations and even then profitability is not likely, we'll most certainly be building outdated tech from the beginning. 5 years later we'll be making the equivalent to the chinkpad minus the durability and maybe five times more expensive. But at least we'll be free.

Implying. NSA have managed to insert their own code into megacorp fabbing labs without the company in question realising. We wouldn't stand a chance. Either somebody would be bought out, one of us would slip up and bring an infected device on-site, or an NSA employee would physically break in and insert their 1337 hax directly.

It's broader than that. Google's Brave New World™ involves breaking down all the old boundaries. >>
>>51290086
Why's that bad?
>>
>>51290128
Because they're a company, not a country. They're someone that should honestly stay away from politics and always seemed like a group that would be the neutral Internet force to give everything good things.

Their work with the military, buying keyhole, gave us google maps, but they sell spy images to the government. And we really can't trust them not to hand over everything they know about us to the government.

The problem with big data isn't that you have nothing to fear if nothing to hide. It's how cherry picked information can make anyone look bad.

Are you a Washington insider or do you plan to be one?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fellowship_(Christian_organization)

>The Fellowship has been described as one of the most politically well-connected ministries in the United States. The Fellowship shuns publicity and its members share a vow of secrecy.[8] The Fellowship's leader Doug Coe and others have explained the organization's desire for secrecy by citing biblical admonitions against public displays of good works, insisting they would not be able to tackle diplomatically sensitive missions if they drew public attention.[8]

>The Fellowship's known participants include ranking United States government officials, corporate executives, heads of religious and humanitarian aid organizations, and ambassadors and high-ranking politicians from across the world.[2][13][14][15][16] Many United States Senators and Congressmen who have publicly acknowledged working with the Fellowship or are documented as having worked together to pass or influence legislation.[17][18]

>Writer Jeff Sharlet did intensive research in the Fellowship's archives before they were closed to the public. He also spent a month in 2002 living in a Fellowship house near Washington, and wrote a magazine article describing his experiences.[20] According to his 2008 book about the Family,[3] he criticizes their theology as an "elite fundamentalism" that fetishizes political power and wealth, consistently opposes labor movements in the US and abroad, and teaches that laissez-faire economic policy is "God's will." He opines that their theological teaching of instant forgiveness, has been useful to powerful men, providing them a convenient excuse for misdeeds or crimes and allowing them to avoid accepting responsibility or accountability for their actions.[31]

So I'm guessing no?
Actually, how does it affect the normal unimportant people as long as they don't upload any important files to Google databases?
>>
>>51291368
Since you're not important, it doesn't matter what happens to you. If they decide that people exhibiting some pattern in their data are bad, then they'll easily be able to get rid of you. Since your everyday normal things (nothing important) are all recorded, their algorithm has everything they need to determine whether or not to shitlist you or worse. They can adjust the rate at which such undesirables are targeted to avoid too many problems and they can do this over generations to silently and slowly shape their desired outcome. Almost all of the everyday normal people will be happy. I guess you're right; you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Basically because they're not acting under any domestic jurisdiction there.
That might be somewhat ok if they don't have to follow local dictator's laws and the outcome benefits the society greatly, but recently that has not been the case anywhere. The current rise of IS and such happens when you're not understanding what you do over overevaluate your influx dramatically.
That's basically the worst aspect about it: They're just powerful enough to cause havoc while wanting to do something for the world, not to clean up afterwards. They'll realise this one day and say "Well, obviously that's the best we can do, so let's just focus on the havoc and see what it can do for us."
