What tech/gadgets do you own that has substantially improved your life, or just made it better to live?
Better is subjective, so have at it.

Car, because it sucks living in my city without one.
Smartphone, because it allows me to make sales even when I'm out.

GPS.
Such a relief not having to read directions off a paper. Also provides alternative routes in case of an accident/heavy traffic.
i cannot drive without one anymore
Android launchers.
- GPS because I've never had to use a physical map
- Roomba robot things because vacuuming is annoying
- Kindle because physical books are cumbersome

I don't have a smartphone, so excuse me if this is a dumb question, but is GPS in phones an Internet thing (like for example it won't work without a data plan), or it's worls like an actual GPS navigator like pic related?

Windows Phone 8.1 user here.
You can download any map from a wireless for free and you need no internet while in trafic.
It works like a normal GPS but if you have internet you can see the trafic density too.
Windows Phones come with the app already installed.

there's options for both
there's things like google maps, which uses cell data/wifi to retrive part of the maps, and to get directions (from googles' servers)
then there's programs like OSMAnd, which support "online" maps as well as "offline" maps, where you can download entire regions onto your phone/sd card and have it calculate directions on the phone itself, allowing full offline use just like a "dedicated" gpu unit as your pictured
i personally use OSMAnd, since i can't afford the data otherwise, plus i don't need a cell signal to use it

Don't forget to buy a car charger, battery gets low quick when using GPS, especially on Android.

I won't, thank you.

gps isn't usually too power hungry, it's the animated map and constant/bright screen time that drains it
>>51277574
>gps isn't usually too power hungry
that's true, there are some very very low power GPS receivers that can also be used for micro controller things (Arduino, etc.), which also support sleep states for when you don't need constant GPS reception for hours. older receivers however...
