My dad contacted Apple support and took it in to the Genius bar (it's his computer). I took a look at it myself to make sure he wasn't just too old to computer, then contacted both our own Stupid Questions Thread and r/AppleHelp after extensively googling the problem. It works on the Genius Bar's WiFi and it remembers the neighbour's WiFi, but it hates ours for some fucking reason and nobody knows why. There's even 2 other Apple computers in the house, one with Yosemite and another with El Capitan, neither of which have this problem.

Non-retina macbook pros are not soldered together. You can replace the RAM, HDD, and PCIE cards, as well as the superdrive. Apple will likely discontinue non-retina macbook pros in the next five years. They still have shit cooling, shit keyboards, overrated trackpads, and fragile glossy screens.
All thinkpads are locked down to hell and back. You can not replace a PCIE card without the BIOS refusing to boot in the presence of unauthorized hardware. Older models have hacks to circumvent this, but if you're buying an older laptop, why not buy HP or dell?
For example, a standard dell lattitude d620 has a better screen and a more accurate trackpoint than any comparable thinkpad and isn't a piece of fragile overpriced aluminum like a mac, and it isn't locked down.

Macfag here. I might seriously leave. I mean I've been with Apple since 2009, but I am getting seriously pissed off at the lack of software testing and complete disregard for longstanding issues and personal pet peeves.
The OS releases are buggy, lots of new features are of dubious quality. Who likes launchpad? Did we really need discoveryd to replace mdnsresponder? Why does the OS lock up so much more often than it used to? Isn't apple checking for this shit?
The OS isn't evolving in the ways it needs to most. Where is the support for Vulkan graphics stack? Why is the OpenGL performance such shit today even by Linux standards? Why are we *STILL* stuck on HFS+ when everyone knows it is a pile of garbage? We could literally be using any other large, currently deployed *nix system right now and it would be a better choice. I would like ZFS, but at this point I will take btrfs, XFS, hell UFS is fine.
Why does apple not support displayport MST hubs? Like wtf. DisplayPort is THEIR SPEC that their spearheaded and pushed for to be made a VESA standard. This would be like claiming to support USB, but hubs for some retarded reason don't work.
I got onboard with Apple because they provide very nice hardware, running a *nix OS designed around that hardware, which while being compatible with the *nix tools I know and love, is also compatible with a wide range of paid proprietary (native) softwares I don't want to lose the option of using if I find them more useful.
Those benefits are less compelling each release of OS X. Apple needs to fix there shit or I and many others are going to just get tired of it and leave.
