Big case for a small motherboard, disconnected optical, and a few cable routes I would have done differently.

Overall it's nice and a respectable build.

Thanks man, I was a little apprehensive about the MSI board, but it ticked all the boxes so we'll see how it goes I guess. I've only really used Asus and Gigabyte in the past.

Really wanted to do a custom loop, but I'm in accommodation, away from home (and tools) so I thought it might be a pain draining and refilling the loop every 6-8 months. It's an option for the future though.

>What's the bottom card for?
Maybe I should add something to my picture to explain, as someone's always interested!

I run GNU/Linux on the metal. I have a Windows virtual machine running with QEMU. I passthrough the Fury to the windows guest leaving the GTX760 for the linux host. This way I use linux most of the time, but when I want to play a game I switch inputs on one of my monitors and play on the windows VM. Gaming performance is as good as native as far as I can tell and I don't have to close everything to dual boot, so I really like to do my computing this way.
>>
>>51270156
This looks like some Frankenstein monstrosity with the multiple clc's and shit led fans. What the fuck are you doing?
>>
>>51270349
Looks good with a consistent theme. The cpu clc is standard, the card clc is because it was a reference 290.

Did I insult your build?
>>
>>51270330

That's a cool setup man. I'm running the opposite to you - I run win10, then set a Hyper V instance of debian to run a full screen virtual desktop. Ctrl+Win+Arrow allows me switch between full screen desktops instantly.

I'm doing it this way as I am trying to slowly transition to Debian for everyday computing needs, and it's nice to be able to flick back to a familiar environment if I'm having problems in the debian install.

Yep, virtual machines are good fun. I feel more at home on my linux system than Windows so it's always nice to have the OS you're most comfortable with on the hardware.

>Hyper V
How speedy is Debian under that? I use the reference time counter from hyper v in QEMU because windows guests seem to behave better if you make them think they're being hypervised by Hyper-V (things like event timers drift otherwise, which caused stuttering in some games until I enabled hyper-v's counter).

Cool. I don't know much about VMs with a windows host. Does it use the hardware virtualization acceleration on the CPU (VT-d on Intel) like KVM does on the linux side?

>>51270651
>Would this work well with one GPU?
It would not work at all with one GPU, when the GPU is passed-through the host can't use it. However, you could use the 'integrated graphics' GPU on the CPU for linux and give windows the discrete GPU.

Do any of you guys with dual GPUs have SLI issues? I think I'd like to add another 780. If I do, how big of a PSU should I get? I know 760 watts probably won't cut it for two Kepler cards.
Otherwise, I could just get a 980 Ti and sell the 780 while it's not completely worthless. I'd really like to supersample Battlefront and Fallout.

>>51271907
Encoding times. I do a lot of dvd and bluray ripping and encoding. Handbrake uses as many threads as you can throw at it. Encoding times on a cpu with 12 threada will bw significantly faster than my 4 core i5. I also game of course and I know the extra threads won't be of much use there but as it sits now, a single 50gb bluray rip takes an hour with only mild compression. I usually daisy chain rips one after another up to as many as 8 files. 400gb is a long time for me to wait and all 4 cores are locked at 100%.

With a 5820k i could have handbreak in a VM using obly 8 threads and use the remaining 4 for casual browsing and gaming.

Not to mention benefit of ddr4, quad channel memory, and proper nvme ssd support because Ive had my eye on a samsung 950 pro m.2 ssd. Z97 needs a bios flash for it to work right and even then it is iffy. X99 supports nvme natively.

Yea i know. Just impatient. Almost like i want to see if i can get a buyer for my 4690k so i can grab a 4790k for the time being.

I'm a big fan of amd. I came from an overclocked fx-9370. That thing churned through encoding like mad. Just lagged behind in newer games. Ugh. Decisions. The other option of course is i could sell my z97 setup and go get an 990fx amd board and put my 9370 back in service.

Nice. How are palit cards? Never used them. Are they like UK only cards? I actually came from 2 liquid cooled Zotac gtx 670s. The 670 is a very stout card. Even though mine were reference cards I managed to get them both to 1250mhz on core easily.
>>
>>51272556
they've pretty much stayed the same. As long as you don't have incompatible parts everything just sort of fits together. The only thing I could see someone messing up is applying thermal paste or not grounding themselves and killing the mobo with esd
>>
>>51272662
Never had a problem with it, but I haven't tried OC'ing yet. I'd actually say it's too hot for that at the moment anyway, it gets up to 86C under full load.

How do they go with SLi? I was looking at getting a cheap second hand one off ebay, but every bastard seems to think they're worth a fortune.
