Mid Tier PSU. Go EVGA G2 or GS if you can.
280mm AIOs are superior.
Need an SSD in this day and age.

Good build, though.

get a ssd

Why did you spend so much on shit like an i7 Memelake CPU and expensive CPU cooler and then get a mid-range AMD GPU?

Hows it looking?

better than OP

No GPU because I'm thinking I'll wait till next year to grab a card. In the meantime I'll prolly use my old MSI GTX 460

I want to upgrade my old build.
I already have an ATX tower (Bitfeenix Shinobi i think), 4x2 gb 1600 ddr ram, 450w bronze psu, 500gb wd blue.

>pic related
is the upgrades I planned on buying

I mainly play CSGO/Dota2 and Wildstar, which is CPU-heavy. Kinda want to try GTA V and stuff, too, but dont need to be able to pull of Ultra and stuff.

what cpu and gpu do you have now?

runs wildstar like crap, also sucks electricity like a motherfucker, aimed abit for efficiency here

this one doesnt, it supports ddr3
>>
>>51269706
upgrading from those to the 960/6500 should be a pretty decent upgrade....i would say averaging ~40-45 fps on very high settings on GTA V (@1080)
>>
>>51268388

That's a really nice case. It's the nicest one I've ever owned. The thing is fucking huge too, and just the stock fans keeps things cooler than my old case ever did.
>>
>>51269841
scratch that buddy, was looking at 970 bench's, so 960 might be around ~35-40

Honestly just shit.

Here's one that's better in every way and includes a great SSD for the boot drive, as well as more sensible parts for a build like this:

Your combination of a non-k CPU with an aftermarket heatsink is giving me cancer.

MOBO is expensive.

Howdy /g/
Babbys first build so any suggestions would be nice. Kinda on a tight budget of like 800-825 after s+h too so this is kinda what Im aiming for. Most modern stuff at medium/high would be nice but plan on using it for light streaming as well.

my friends are trying to convince me to get an i5-4460 instead of an i3-4170. all ive played lately is Jedi Knight 3 and a couple of non intensive games. sure ive been interested in a handful of games that have come out in the past 5 years but i dont think any of them constitute me dropping the extra money for the i5, do they? whos in the wrong here?

Same build that I submitted to OP without the GPU, 200 bucks cheaper than yours and better in every way.

>>51269268
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/VjLCxr

Don't get the older components, you'll pay more and get less because the prices go up as stock runs out.

>>51269998
Put as much money into the GPU and CPU as possible, the more expensive the component the less you want to upgrade it, if you're strapped for cash don't get something like a mechanical keyboard or any other non-essential components that you can just buy outright later, else settle for what you can afford. Here's a much better build for the money, you don't need extra fans btw.

More advice coming.

>>51272202
I just want a silent HSF.
>>
>>51271895
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/VjLCxr

same build as the other guy, better everything and skylake.

>>51272119
This is a joke right? If you're justifying spending that much money at least tell us what special use-case there is for this. With that much RAM you'd have to be running 5 or 6 VMs at once, that much storage makes it look like you're running a media server.

>>51272231
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/xfCpTW

Add a cheap CPU cooler when you get more money, for now it's non-essential. For a little extra you could get a 380X but this build is your best bet for now.

>>51272253
Get an i3-6100. Great performance for the dollar and DDR4 allows it to run games a lot better than previous generations.
>>
>>51272554
awesome, thanks m8
>>
>>51269706
only ddr3l low voltage ram though
>>
Having some trouble deciding on what to get.

Intel - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wmdJLk
AMD - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2r2z3C

Or should i just bring the 970 over to the AMD build, but which will perform better, the 970 or 390?
>>
>>51268388
I have this same case. The built in fans are a bit loud, so you might want to replace them with some more quiet ones (i.e. noctua). Cooling works pretty well, and the case fits a gtx 960 just fine. Be careful not to get an hsf that's too large. I'm using a NH-C14S and it barely fits.
>>
>>51272695
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D7HfWZ

Why are people still getting Haswell shit? Skylake's been out for long enough that it's now cheaper than the worse-performing Haswell equivalents? Jesus christ.

Anyway, this build good.

I pretty much use it for everything. I run 2-3 VMs constantly and use my PC as a media server, render/encode video, do mid-range gaming. In reality I'm not spending too much on HDDs. As I type this, I'm currently at 13/16GBs and I'm really not doing all that much since it's kinda late (1 VM and 4-5 programs like photoshop, dreamweaver, etc on stand-by). I'm moving some of them from an existing build.

In any case, I'm mostly wondering about the PSU I should get or if I should go instead with a 5960x.
>>
>>51272875
>I'm moving some of them from an existing build.
Referring to the HDDs.
>>
>>51272780
Not that it matters, but this is my build:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/X2NLZL

Hard drives are in external USB 3 enclosures.

You obviously shouldn't copy this, though.
>>
>>51268388

Cons:

-Skyline i7 is eh, you could probably get slightly slower i7 but save more money.

-Seagate HDDs have highest failure rate, get the WD Caviar Blue for $7 more.

-Bit of preference but that GPU has eh clock rate and I'm sure the bit rate is ok. You already have 16G of DDR4 RAM so blowing extra money on a GPU with a huge level of RAM seems like a waste.

Other than that, very well done.

ah alright cool thanks anon. Is a cpu fan really not that essential seems kinda concerning.

So I'm just curious what I'm gaining as to going with your build as opposed to my second one cause this one is a tad bit overbudget post S+H. Like for ex whats the difference between the cards and the processor. I'm still new to building and understanding parts so I only have a vague understanding so I'm sorry if it comes off as retarded.
