I remember getting that kind of lecture from my teachers in the 90s. The logic was to keep rapists from kidnapping children they meet on the Internet. These days, that sort of wisdom is no longer necessary, but I still withhold from sharing too much personal information online. The reasoning now is that future employers can't fire me for saying something stupid online, because they have no ability to tie anything I say online to my name.

I intend to share this sort of wisdom with my future children.

Even worse is that anonymity online is nowadays seen as something dangerous.

If everyone is anonymous, that gives the same protection to everyone. If everyone uses their names, that gives the same dangers to everyone.

Anonymity and privacy are not important anymore. It's almost 2016. Do you buy anything online? Do you use a cellphone? Are you a productive citizen? Do you not let things like this consume your thoughts?

Capitalism's slimy tentacles reached the Internet.

>A class of labourers, who live only so long as they find work, and who find work only so long as their labour increase capital. These labourers, who must sell themselves piecemeal, are a commodity, like every other article of commerce, and are consequently exposed to all the vicissitudes of competition, to all the fluctuations of the market.

I fell for the Facebook meme in 2005. I'm currently spending all my free time in the evenings manually removing every post before like last month. It's taking forever because Facebook doesn't want you to remove anything.
