because unlike programmers, graphic designers won't work for free, that's why free software always looks like shit. freetards compensate this by pretending to hate GUIs.

this.

There are over 20 different GUIs available for Linux, how many does Windows have?

over 30

key Is there a bigger joke than the freetard community? I can't think of one.

How are you going to find a hacker's IP in the terminal?

I have this autistic aversion to using my mouse, so it's not so much that I'm anti gui, as much as I'm anti mouse.

That does often translate to me doing almost everything in the terminal, but nowadays, pretty much the only thing I do outside of the terminal is browse the internet, and I have a plugin that lets me use my vim bindings for that.

Another part of the appeal is that it's a lot easier to write scripts that use CLI programs than GUI programs.

There is literally nobody using just a command line for day to day use.
Sure, there are autists with their fancy tiling keybind window managers, but fuck them.

Is any of that even faster?

Like. I can understand it being faster using the terminal to download and install a package rather than a GUI. But stuff like rTorrent over qBittorrent and playing music through it?

Just seems sorta archaic.

They never got it right, you just have no other option.

How many version of windows have their been, including SP packs?

Yeah thought so, reee in hell frogfag.

yet the all function pretty much the same since 95

Meanwhile Linux reinvents the wheel every couple of years

Because GUIs are good for simplifying specific tasks, not for doing every single thing you can do.

yeah, usable. as in the standard

This, sadly.

Developing GUIs is unrewarding, because the userbase consists mostly of normies who will cry anyway because it doesn't work like Windows/Photoshop/Premiere/Maya/Whatever the fuck it is you talentless "artists" use.

I'd just like to interject for a moment
They do not "all function pretty much the same since 95"
In fact software written for 95 won't even run on a 64 bit computer. With the release of NT 4.0, microsoft changed from being a 16bit codebase to being a 32 bit codebase. They then implemented a compatibility layer so you could continue to run your 16 bit programs. When they finally made the jump to 64bit, they dropped support for 16 bit programs entirely.
And it's disingenuous to say they "function pretty much the same", especially seeing as how they've completely changed their desktop environment to the new metro garbage.

There is also no monolithic "Linux"
There is the linux kernel, and the system built around it. Things like Debian, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Slackware, and Gentoo are all different systems built on the foundation of the linux kernel and the GNU coreutils. The only reinvention comes on each particular distribution, and that's mostly in the window manager.

Because GUI's allow stupid people to use computers. This in itself is not a problem, except...

Linux is not forgiving of stupidity.

Then the stupids complain when they fuck-up their Linux install, or if the experience has some rough edges.

It must be Linux's fault, because Winshits marketing tells the folks most likely to try out Linux that they're power users: "Burning CD's, changing your hardware, editing the registry?!?! Whoa there 1337 Power User, what you need is Microsoft Server! Only $599, act now!" They're still just the smartest retard on the short bus.

The whole thing long ago stopped being sad for the dedicated Linux crowd. Now it's just boring. Linux GUI != Windows GUI
>>
>>51262908
They aren't anti-gui, it's just that CLIs are a great deal easier to develop and satisfy the majority of the market.

Why bother to spend what could be months of extra effort?
>>
because a command line is faster

keeping your hands on the keyboard and typing cd tab is quicker than taking them off and double clicking
>>
>>51265729
free time isn't free anon
>>
Most programs have way too many possible parameters and options, a GUI for all that stuff would be a giant clusterfuck. And most people will want to use the CLI regardless for scripts.
It just isn't worth it most of the time.

Eh?

There's like dozens of graphical desktop environments for GNU/Linux with graphical package managers with self-update tools faggot
